(ignoring the nasty SA stuff he did) this is what happens to game devs who stubbornly chose to cram 10 years of learning into their first project, and yet somehow never give up. scope your games smaller, kids. if you are scoping bigger than an hour of gameplay in your first 5 years of game dev, and you aren't working for a larger team that you aren't in charge of, then you probably need to aim lower.
Reminder that when someone offered to help Yandev with his code to make the game run better, he insulted and "fired" the person because they made the code too complicated for Yandev to understand, then went back to his original code. Yandere Simulator's code is 90% strings of "If X, do Y" events.

Also he keeps on creating objects and searching for instantiates of objects every single frame, as opposed to create something to the effect of cache. for example instead of checking if object1 is null before asking object = Find("Name"), he just goes and instantiates the object every single frame He also refuses to use the engine's solutions for finding and using children of the object. For example in this video it shows the famous 3 objects for one index finger, and every goddamn student needs their fingers mapped. There must be a gigabyte worth of pointers before it launches. There is no need to store so much memory pointing to these objects since in the rare eventuality you need it in script, you could access it by their root and them maybe create a temporary pointer. Either way there is no need to even have most of them since if you need to animate a finger just use whatever unity offers as a solution to that. His code also suffers from God Classes. There is a single script named student and the personal behavior of every single student is hard coded inside their respective if. If he ever wants to change for example their pathfinder he probably will have to go about refactoring the same some inside the same script file for 100+ students. This could all be solved by basic inheritance or even just some more files. I was also told he has things like professors behavior who are inside student files and vice versa. This is all fine by the way. Back in 2014 as he was learning this is all fine. It is ok to have a poor code, not everybody mastered it yet. But when he acts like it is not bad, disrespect people trying to help and outright trash out improvements because of ego, all the while still coding just as bad as 9 years ago. That's when the problems begin. Can you imagine working on something for 9 years and not improving? How does that even work?

@@IcedLance I mean, I used to occasionally raid in Destiny with 2 9 year olds because my group was desperate for 2 more to fill in and lemme tell you it's pain. I was like 18 at the time, but I treated it more like they were my younger siblings than anything else. I think the main takeaway from the situation above is that it was OBVIOUS that it was something more than like a every-once-in-a-while thing. I used to play WoW at 17 and I was consistently raiding with a 12yo and they were quite competent. More competent than 60% of WoW players at least. Around that time or a little later I used to play Minecraft Classic with a bunch of other people who I knew very little about, and we had a blast just hanging out, chatting, building stuff. I didn't know anything about them for a long time, but it turned out one of them was a 10yo girl. Great person with a slightly too strong obsession with Earthbound of all games and, what should've probably given it away, she loved to roleplay having tea parties. At the time I was still too obsessed with WoW and rubbing it into everyones faces so I didn't judge others based on their quirks. Later yet I was about 20 when i went for a vacation with my family and I was an awkward nerd so no beaches, parties or bitches, but I ended up walking into like a small chess area with a hanful of people playing and there was a 12yo boy absolutely humiliating everyone while also constantly talking like he knew what he was doing like throwing some related chess trivia after every move etc. What I'm saying, age does have legal implications a lot of time, but being younger doesn't make you a lesser person undeserving of being treated fairly by others. (not even lesser regarding height, as back when I was 14 we had a pair of twins at school who had to bow to enter doors) There are some 39 year olds out there who are just as bad as some 9 year olds.

i think the worst part of the yandere dev situation is that on paper, the game has an interesting premise and concept. a stealth game set in a somewhat modern day setting where you play out the plot of an anime but from the perspective of the psychopath. it could have been interesting, but sadly the main dev himself is not the only horrid thing floating around this project.
I was interested in the game at the start, honestly before it was even really a game but I saw the potential there. But at some point I saw that development just wasn't really happening. There have been additions and changes since, but little that really reinforced the core concept, mostly they seem more like side additions because "hey wouldn't it be cool if". Honestly I don't even think whether this guy is a pedo or not is relevant, I can separate art from creator, the game was effectively dead long ago.

It could be an interesting concept...but to nail it down properly would be tricky. YanSim's biggest problem, besides the onez brought about from it's creator himself, is that it doesn't know what it is or wants to be, because of the endless feature creep. Initial concept was Hitman by way of Persona 5. Objective based gameplay with some social and time based gradual build up mechanics. But then came the fear of "if I work on core gameplay, I'll lose audience attention", and that spelled the end for any chance the game would ever be complete. Because then every major update wasn't "look at the plot and gameplay progressions" but look at the new wacky sandbox "Easter egg" I just implemented! Insteas of doing the "unexciting" core gameplay, and bug fixes, he focused on "sandbox" gameplay elements and insisted on adding more and more unnecessary systems into the game as background details. YanSim doesn't know what it is or what it wants to be. The Yakuza is just an afterthought excuse to hide the fact that the core gameplay is still stuck on Namek, ten years of progress later. If he had a team of programming professionals and spent the money donated by his fans on paying for such a team, and stuck with a producer/director role, the game might've been actually finished. But that would require him to relinquish absolute control over ever facet. And to stop goofing off, stop adding in more background systems to the core gameplay loop, and actually focus. And, y'know, probably not be occupied with grooming. Allegedly.
I don't know what's stupider, his code being endless if/else statements that run on an Update method (meaning every frame/tick), him thinking grooming is okay, or him not writing up an agreement that would prevent something like people working on it being able to retroactively remove their work from the game. All three are pretty nuts. Rule #1 of being an online personality should be to not talk to your fans like that.
The whole "school setting" and "age of consent" issue could've been solved by making the characters college/university freshmen. They'd be 18 at minimum and you'd never be questioned about adult themes like the underwear selection.

Yeah, he "made it in 24 hours" by recycling/reusing the Dev's code, but passed it off as "look how lazy/dumb YanDev is, I remade his entire game in 24 hours". That was the season of "im not like THE YanDev" creators coming out of the woodwork to promote their own YanSim game "but it'll be different and better than THAT YanSim game", only to self destruct when the creators were inevitably revealed to be cut from the same cloth. The "hamburger time baiting" incident was with a different creator...I think. Whether the Dev was intentionally hamburger time baiting or not was sort of up to interpretation, but generally speaking given his less than stellar track record, along with the desperate need to ensure his gravy train wasn't threatened by a rival, general consensus was that even if he in fact wasn't going to hamburger time himself (and almost certainly he wasn't), and wasn't in fact trying to insinuate that he might, it still was repugnant and repulsive manipulation.
I remember a long time ago following updates, and at one point I must have subconsciously realized that this game will not come out anytime soon and stopped.

YanDev’s argument about the age of consent ironically supports it being RAISED, not lowered. By stating that there’s people older than 18 who aren’t emotionally and mentally prepared for intimate relationships implies laws need to be stricter and expand what legally counts as a minor, at least in terms of intercourse.
It's pretty obvious that he's arguing with that as an example because it's more palatable. From the argument he makes it's clear that he is also saying the opposite situation is true, and some minors are developed enough to consent. All he has to do is get you to agree to his argument that people have individually specific age of consent. Once you're on board with that, he'd no doubt start to push the boundaries starting with 17 year olds.

If you have a large fanbase, many of them will be minors. When they talk to you, keep it as cordial and simple as possible. Say your thank yous, encourage them to pursue studies in their passions, and answer pertinent questions. They don't need to know you personally, they don't need to see the face behind the mask, and they damn sure don't need to be caught up in your affairs. Brevity, in this case, does nothing but good.

I dont have a fanbase, but I did have a Minecraft phase for a couple year, and for a while even had a side friend group full of kids It's normal to interact with kids sometimes, just dont be a creep. It was a lot of fun teaching them redstone and other tricks.

He speaks as if the fact that people aren't just magically ready for sex on their 18th birthday is a hidden truth of the universe that only he understands. I worked as a vocalist and composer for Yandev back in 2015 when the game was first getting popular. It was my first big music job in college and it was awful working with him. I left in 2018, he never paid, super picky on stupid things and was a freaking creep. I’m super angry he was doing this to kids, but I’m surprised it took this long to catch him. I hope he rots.
I'll never forget the hilarity of watching Markiplier play it and the animation based on it. Never EVER did I think it'd end up controversial like this. Had always thought of it as an interesting concept indie title that did OK. It definitely seemed a bit empty and unfinished at the time. Can't imagine if it's like that even now. Since they were smaller bodies, they couldn't hold as much alcohol has the dwarf and therefore would die of alcohol poisoning. - The game RANDOMLY GENERATES a full mythos for each world that goes back generations upon generations. Every weapon that your dwarves can pick up in the game has a number of how many people it's killed and what implications and history it has with the rest of the world. The game even helped properly categorize densities of certain cacti because the dev wanted the correct weights of all the vegetation in the game to be as accurate as possible. The version number the game is the percentage completed in the dev's opinion.

Incase he doesn't mention it. Yandev actually had a publisher at one point. They gave him a coder to help fix the game up and he threw a fit when the coder actually showed him a more functioning code and the publisher pulled away from the project.

Stardew Valley was created by one dude. Unlike YanDev, ConcernedApe made literally everything, from the art, music, and code for the game. The only help he got was through Chucklefish, who published the game. ConcernedApe also released major updates to the game, again by himself, for free. If YanDev was actually talented (or realistic) the full game would’ve been released by now.
Unrelated to the video but I bought Stardew on a whim because a friend told me about it. Didn't think it was my kinda game... how wrong I was. Ended up buying it twice, and don't remotely regret it because the sheer quantity of content and the quality of it makes it so damn worth it.

The funniest part about the horribly optimised Yandere game's code is that every single student's behaviour and appearance (from the hat that they may or may not be wearing to the colour of their fingernails) is calculated by one giant else if else if script every single frame when the game is running. That single script goes through and checks else if else if style to determine which student is which before processing their appearance/behaviour. Per frame. Also, a random background detail prop had 5,000 polygons - for a toothbrush. A single toothbrush has more polygons than a whole Combine soldier from Half-Life 2 (of 4,682 polygons).

You are incorrect. The age of consent is the age the governement has stated is the age that a person can consent to sexual contact with an adult or other person above the age of consent. Now, there are some countries that allow sex with someone younger than the age of consent if their partner is close in age to to them or if they are married.

Honestly, the alleged victims post does sound more like they are not ready to face the situation yet. I know I have had similar feelings when talking about my first instance of SA as well: talk about it as if nothing really was wrong about it. "It wasn't THAT bad", I would say. Until 3 years later I had a breakdown and realised it really was THAT BAD and has had a huge impact on my mental health and relationships from then on. I am a csa survivor, I work regularly w other csa survivors. There is a shocking number of victims I have met who vehemently defend their abusers. I have had family members and friends beg me to speak with those types of victims, and I have to refuse. Because there is no amount of logic, no amount of facts, no amount of explaining nor empathy, that can change these victim's minds. I used to defend my ex with bruises from him strangling me hidden under my clothes. And a LOT of these victims are either still with their groomer or still love them. Sometimes it’s so hard to NOT feel sorry for my abuser. I was 5 when I was forced to give my abuser oral sex. My abuser was 9. He was my neighbor, my FRIEND. He, a teenage girl with Down Syndrome (who he likewise took advantage of), a girl his own age (he likewise messed with her), my little sister (who thankfully wasn’t harmed), and myself all hung out a lot. I’m just ready to backup the words and accusations of any victims he may have left behind as an adult, as his childhood records are sealed.
Those age of consent arguments are always so self-serving. It's always about how ready someone is to give an adult sexual gratification, no consideration given to the teen. In spite of the proven psychological harm and health risks those types of adult/underage age gap relations pose, from pregnancy being the number 1 killer of teen girls (with almost 25% of teen pregnancies being from adults, much over 30) to STDs. Because the kind of guys who think an underage teen would be a better sexual partner than an adult are those who intend to abuse their immaturity and power imbalances for sex. It's true that there is no concrete method for maturity. 8:57 Having multiple bone objects per finger is required if you want the finger to bend at each point. The problem is that he's copying the structure members one at a time instead of all at once (which to be fair, is a little tougher in C#, but I'm sure there's a way). Basically that code is copying the hand animation state from one character's hand to another, just in a really inefficient way. From what I've heard, the performance issues are mostly structural issues and/or a buildup of many small inefficiencies.

For instance, User Stories to gauge what his audience actually wanted should have dictated how he set up his sprints. A big part of agile is giving the customer the things they want and need the most sooner in the development process rather than later. You might decide that a player wiping the blood off their knife is a really cool feature. Make a card for it and put it on the back burner while you deliver what your players actually want like a second character or performance improvements.

What's more horrifying about this is that as his life spirals out of control due to this situation, and the less stability in his living situation, the more his mental health will decline, which puts him at a higher risk of doing something absolutely degenerate and vile out of desperation. I forget the details but there was a big red flag for Unity sometime last year (maybe earlier than that) and yet people mostly seemed to ignore it and then Unity confirmed our fears recently. I also saw a video explaining that Unity tried something akin to the recent controversy several years ago. Unity may have toned down their greed a little after all the backlash but it seems clear that Unity just can't be trusted to not pull something like this again.

I remember downloading a very early build of the game on my laptop when i was about 13. It ran just fine, and i found it pretty fun! But just a couple of updates later, it almost bricked my laptop. I thought something was wrong with it, and taught myself how to update my drivers, etc. Obviously this had no effect, it was because Yanderedev had added the infamous hyper detailed toothbrush 3D model (meant to be used for things like toothpaste ads). But hey, this experience led to me learning important PC knowledge as a kid.
I dont want to speak for the victim but i will say that the grooming i suffered was something i was certain hadn't traumatised me and i was older enough and strong enough to handle. That was until i became an adult and started actually grappling with what happened and actually started to have consentual relationships and then saw how badly it had affected me. Grooming is very often something the victim doesn't really recognize is happening to them until much later. Thats kinda the point of it.

The Dwarf Fortress dev is constantly working on his passion project game and typically picks a few things to add and then _focuses on them until they're more or less done (they're still subject to refinement or revision, of course)._ He also frequently takes the time to optimize how the game runs under the hood to keep Dwarf Fortress' late game system requirements... _somewhat_ under control. Yandev has to be held at gunpoint to make him spend more than 10 minutes a week on his pseudo Star Citizen money-milker and obsesses over memes, leading him to abandon development of each new "feature" in favor of the next within a matter of days. And he mocks the very _concept_ for performance optimization. "Just buy a better computer".
note, Dwarf fortress was basically programmed by two brothers. Not just one guy.. Recently during the steam release i think they hired their first person to be added lol. So like after 20 years we got a 3rd person.

Also he keeps on creating objects and searching for instantiates of objects every single frame, as opposed to create something to the effect of cache.
for example instead of checking if object1 is null before asking object = Find("Name"), he just goes and instantiates the object every single frame
He also refuses to use the engine's solutions for finding and using children of the object. For example in this video it shows the famous 3 objects for one index finger, and every goddamn student needs their fingers mapped. There must be a gigabyte worth of pointers before it launches. There is no need to store so much memory pointing to these objects since in the rare eventuality you need it in script, you could access it by their root and them maybe create a temporary pointer.
Either way there is no need to even have most of them since if you need to animate a finger just use whatever unity offers as a solution to that.
His code also suffers from God Classes. There is a single script named student and the personal behavior of every single student is hard coded inside their respective if. If he ever wants to change for example their pathfinder he probably will have to go about refactoring the same some inside the same script file for 100+ students. This could all be solved by basic inheritance or even just some more files. I was also told he has things like professors behavior who are inside student files and vice versa.
This is all fine by the way. Back in 2014 as he was learning this is all fine. It is ok to have a poor code, not everybody mastered it yet. But when he acts like it is not bad, disrespect people trying to help and outright trash out improvements because of ego, all the while still coding just as bad as 9 years ago. That's when the problems begin.

I used to play WoW at 17 and I was consistently raiding with a 12yo and they were quite competent. More competent than 60% of WoW players at least.
Around that time or a little later I used to play Minecraft Classic with a bunch of other people who I knew very little about, and we had a blast just hanging out, chatting, building stuff. I didn't know anything about them for a long time, but it turned out one of them was a 10yo girl. Great person with a slightly too strong obsession with Earthbound of all games and, what should've probably given it away, she loved to roleplay having tea parties. At the time I was still too obsessed with WoW and rubbing it into everyones faces so I didn't judge others based on their quirks.
Later yet I was about 20 when i went for a vacation with my family and I was an awkward nerd so no beaches, parties or bitches, but I ended up walking into like a small chess area with a hanful of people playing and there was a 12yo boy absolutely humiliating everyone while also constantly talking like he knew what he was doing like throwing some related chess trivia after every move etc.
What I'm saying, age does have legal implications a lot of time, but being younger doesn't make you a lesser person undeserving of being treated fairly by others. (not even lesser regarding height, as back when I was 14 we had a pair of twins at school who had to bow to enter doors) There are some 39 year olds out there who are just as bad as some 9 year olds.

i think the worst part of the yandere dev situation is that on paper, the game has an interesting premise and concept. a stealth game set in a somewhat modern day setting where you play out the plot of an anime but from the perspective of the psychopath. it could have been interesting, but sadly the main dev himself is not the only horrid thing floating around this project.
I was interested in the game at the start, honestly before it was even really a game but I saw the potential there. But at some point I saw that development just wasn't really happening. There have been additions and changes since, but little that really reinforced the core concept, mostly they seem more like side additions because "hey wouldn't it be cool if". Honestly I don't even think whether this guy is a pedo or not is relevant, I can separate art from creator, the game was effectively dead long ago.
@@Person01234 the worst part is, if anyone wanted to pick up this game and develop it properly, they would have to hide their existence. the community around this particular game, thanks to yan dev, has their own incredibly toxic and abusive approach to interacting with any dev that tries to develop the game before him. several attempts have been made in the past that basically got ass blasted off the internet.
It could be an interesting concept...but to nail it down properly would be tricky. YanSim's biggest problem, besides the onez brought about from it's creator himself, is that it doesn't know what it is or wants to be, because of the endless feature creep.
Initial concept was Hitman by way of Persona 5. Objective based gameplay with some social and time based gradual build up mechanics. But then came the fear of "if I work on core gameplay, I'll lose audience attention", and that spelled the end for any chance the game would ever be complete.
Because then every major update wasn't "look at the plot and gameplay progressions" but look at the new wacky sandbox "Easter egg" I just implemented! Insteas of doing the "unexciting" core gameplay, and bug fixes, he focused on "sandbox" gameplay elements and insisted on adding more and more unnecessary systems into the game as background details.
YanSim doesn't know what it is or what it wants to be. The Yakuza is just an afterthought excuse to hide the fact that the core gameplay is still stuck on Namek, ten years of progress later.
If he had a team of programming professionals and spent the money donated by his fans on paying for such a team, and stuck with a producer/director role, the game might've been actually finished. But that would require him to relinquish absolute control over ever facet. And to stop goofing off, stop adding in more background systems to the core gameplay loop, and actually focus. And, y'know, probably not be occupied with grooming. Allegedly.

Yeah, he "made it in 24 hours" by recycling/reusing the Dev's code, but passed it off as "look how lazy/dumb YanDev is, I remade his entire game in 24 hours". That was the season of "im not like THE YanDev" creators coming out of the woodwork to promote their own YanSim game "but it'll be different and better than THAT YanSim game", only to self destruct when the creators were inevitably revealed to be cut from the same cloth.
The "hamburger time baiting" incident was with a different creator...I think. Whether the Dev was intentionally hamburger time baiting or not was sort of up to interpretation, but generally speaking given his less than stellar track record, along with the desperate need to ensure his gravy train wasn't threatened by a rival, general consensus was that even if he in fact wasn't going to hamburger time himself (and almost certainly he wasn't), and wasn't in fact trying to insinuate that he might, it still was repugnant and repulsive manipulation.

By stating that there’s people older than 18 who aren’t emotionally and mentally prepared for intimate relationships implies laws need to be stricter and expand what legally counts as a minor, at least in terms of intercourse.
It's pretty obvious that he's arguing with that as an example because it's more palatable. From the argument he makes it's clear that he is also saying the opposite situation is true, and some minors are developed enough to consent. All he has to do is get you to agree to his argument that people have individually specific age of consent. Once you're on board with that, he'd no doubt start to push the boundaries starting with 17 year olds.

I worked as a vocalist and composer for Yandev back in 2015 when the game was first getting popular. It was my first big music job in college and it was awful working with him. I left in 2018, he never paid, super picky on stupid things and was a freaking creep. I’m super angry he was doing this to kids, but I’m surprised it took this long to catch him. I hope he rots.

6:30 Saying in Dwarf Fortress that you can "still explore the dungeons" is a MASSIVE understatement to how much detail is in that game...
2 Examples: There was a bug in the game where cats were randomly getting drunk and dying of alcohol poisoning and the dev couldn't figure it out. Turns out what was happening was the dwarves were spilling alcohol on the floor, and the cats were picking up the residue on their paws, then licking themsevles clean. Since they were smaller bodies, they couldn't hold as much alcohol has the dwarf and therefore would die of alcohol poisoning.
- The game RANDOMLY GENERATES a full mythos for each world that goes back generations upon generations. Every weapon that your dwarves can pick up in the game has a number of how many people it's killed and what implications and history it has with the rest of the world. The game even helped properly categorize densities of certain cacti because the dev wanted the correct weights of all the vegetation in the game to be as accurate as possible.
The version number the game is the percentage completed in the dev's opinion.

Incase he doesn't mention it. Yandev actually had a publisher at one point. They gave him a coder to help fix the game up and he threw a fit when the coder actually showed him a more functioning code and the publisher pulled away from the project.

Stardew Valley was created by one dude. Unlike YanDev, ConcernedApe made literally everything, from the art, music, and code for the game. The only help he got was through Chucklefish, who published the game.
ConcernedApe also released major updates to the game, again by himself, for free. If YanDev was actually talented (or realistic) the full game would’ve been released by now.
Unrelated to the video but I bought Stardew on a whim because a friend told me about it. Didn't think it was my kinda game... how wrong I was.
Ended up buying it twice, and don't remotely regret it because the sheer quantity of content and the quality of it makes it so damn worth it.

@pinkooru3049 i've seen this 3D vs 2D arguement a lot and as an animation student let me tell you that most of the time that isn't true,it's true in stardew Valley's case,sure,its artstyle helps it greatly,but having to hand draw each and every frame of everything you see in the world is 10 times more difficult than making a model and moving that model around,this is ignorig the stuff that is simulated by the animation software itself like water effects,hair physics etc which in 2D you have to draw by yourself or make active corrections to each frame since simulatios usually fuck up the base 2D image ,and the stuff that you make key frames for and the software does the in betweens for you

No lie, on the early days of development, he briefly teemed up with a small publishing company that was willing to provide him with a small development team to help him with the coding while still giving him creative control. The funniest part about the horribly optimised Yandere game's code is that every single student's behaviour and appearance (from the hat that they may or may not be wearing to the colour of their fingernails) is calculated by one giant else if else if script every single frame when the game is running. That single script goes through and checks else if else if style to determine which student is which before processing their appearance/behaviour. Per frame. Also, a random background detail prop had 5,000 polygons - for a toothbrush. A single toothbrush has more polygons than a whole Combine soldier from Half-Life 2 (of 4,682 polygons).

Yanderedev was against things like doing a little math to work out an affection level rather than a huge bloated if else block. Really, really, basic math. It was just dividing by 25 and doing a little rounding.

Because in what universe is it more likely you put a device like that on a minor, with an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex, and have it go "yes, this one's good to go!! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ" instead of putting it on many an adult and have it go "mmmmmaybe let this one cook for a little longer :)". The chance of encountering an emotionally stable person is already pretty slim as is.. I don't think decreasing the age is gonna help with that xD

Honestly, the alleged victims post does sound more like they are not ready to face the situation yet. I know I have had similar feelings when talking about my first instance of SA as well: talk about it as if nothing really was wrong about it. "It wasn't THAT bad", I would say. Until 3 years later I had a breakdown and realised it really was THAT BAD and has had a huge impact on my mental health and relationships from then on. Those age of consent arguments are always so self-serving. It's always about how ready someone is to give an adult sexual gratification, no consideration given to the teen. In spite of the proven psychological harm and health risks those types of adult/underage age gap relations pose, from pregnancy being the number 1 killer of teen girls (with almost 25% of teen pregnancies being from adults, much over 30) to STDs. Because the kind of guys who think an underage teen would be a better sexual partner than an adult are those who intend to abuse their immaturity and power imbalances for sex.
It's true that there is no concrete method for maturity. Having multiple bone objects per finger is required if you want the finger to bend at each point. The problem is that he's copying the structure members one at a time instead of all at once (which to be fair, is a little tougher in C#, but I'm sure there's a way).
Basically that code is copying the hand animation state from one character's hand to another, just in a really inefficient way.
From what I've heard, the performance issues are mostly structural issues and/or a buildup of many small inefficiencies.

If it weren't for explaining the game mechanics might be 'iffy'. Yandere Sim would actually make an excellent case study In a CS curriculum. Particularly when it comes to things like agile development, and MVPs. There is just so much here that any dev can look at and go -- oh.. that's why we were taught not to do that.
There are some really good youtube videos on Programmers dissecting YandereSim's code. Some of them are multi-part and hours of content.

For instance, User Stories to gauge what his audience actually wanted should have dictated how he set up his sprints. A big part of agile is giving the customer the things they want and need the most sooner in the development process rather than later. You might decide that a player wiping the blood off their knife is a really cool feature. Make a card for it and put it on the back burner while you deliver what your players actually want like a second character or performance improvements.

@@radiokitty9007 Uhhh, which one? (I will asume you are asking about Unity) I have not really been in the loop much either. I forget the details but there was a big red flag for Unity sometime last year (maybe earlier than that) and yet people mostly seemed to ignore it and then Unity confirmed our fears recently. I also saw a video explaining that Unity tried something akin to the recent controversy several years ago. Unity may have toned down their greed a little after all the backlash but it seems clear that Unity just can't be trusted to not pull something like this again.

I remember downloading a very early build of the game on my laptop when i was about 13. It ran just fine, and i found it pretty fun! But just a couple of updates later, it almost bricked my laptop. I thought something was wrong with it, and taught myself how to update my drivers, etc. Obviously this had no effect, it was because Yanderedev had added the infamous hyper detailed toothbrush 3D model (meant to be used for things like toothpaste ads).
But hey, this experience led to me learning important PC knowledge as a kid.
I dont want to speak for the victim but i will say that the grooming i suffered was something i was certain hadn't traumatised me and i was older enough and strong enough to handle. That was until i became an adult and started actually grappling with what happened and actually started to have consentual relationships and then saw how badly it had affected me. Grooming is very often something the victim doesn't really recognize is happening to them until much later. Thats kinda the point of it.
yeah, it genuinely took me ages to realize why i was uncomfortable with certain things then i realized what had happened to me and that it did actually affect me. its like a gift that keeps on giving (in the bad way), its like i just keep digging up trauma from it.
I was really depressed seeing the victim's post saying that it means anything that they contacted yandev and not the other way around. The fact that the adult still interacted is the problem. The victim is so young that they thing they have any blame in the situation.

The Dwarf Fortress dev is constantly working on his passion project game and typically picks a few things to add and then _focuses on them until they're more or less done (they're still subject to refinement or revision, of course)._ He also frequently takes the time to optimize how the game runs under the hood to keep Dwarf Fortress' late game system requirements... _somewhat_ under control.
Yandev has to be held at gunpoint to make him spend more than 10 minutes a week on his pseudo Star Citizen money-milker and obsesses over memes, leading him to abandon development of each new "feature" in favor of the next within a matter of days. And he mocks the very _concept_ for performance optimization. "Just buy a better computer".

note, Dwarf fortress was basically programmed by two brothers. Not just one guy.. Recently during the steam release i think they hired their first person to be added lol. So like after 20 years we got a 3rd person.

That's 100% the truth.
He knows a *very* small amount about writing code (literally just the basics), absolutely nothing about how to create a maintainable codebase (which is why the problems his code has will *never* be fixed), and less than nothing about how to write code that doesn't make the CPU burst into flames.
The real tragedy is that none of this information is a big secret, it's all out there and freely available to anyone that cares to learn.
Everything I know about coding came from a video game (Autonauts), and looking at his code even made _me_ want to scream about how inefficient it was.

The thing that always gets me is there are screenshots of YanDev coaching the girl who came out and rescinded her consent to post her story, on how to do it says things along the lines of "You can tell them something like this "I'm the victim and I no longer want my story to be out there" easy, you'd be saving my career" Like, wow. I'm all for not posting a story if the victim doesn't want it out, but if it wasn't Alex putting out that copyright strike she was definitely manipulated to do so.
