  • Zero pitch on a flybarless helicopter using a standard pitch gauge and bubble levels.
There is significantly more to this than what I am showing, but this is a good example of one way of determining zero degrees pitch.
This example assumes your main shaft is perfectly perpendicular to the main frames. If it is not, then this method will not work for you and you should probably spend some time trying to figure out why it is not square.

The reason why that bubble is slightly off like that my friend, is to compensate for stillness or lack of lift .For those who don’t understand, when your blades are in motion , as you can manually twist the blade by hand to completely center the bubble (when still) the same amount of pressure is produced when the blade is in motion from blade curvature plus lift plus centrifugal force or blade weight which will actually accuratly zero it so It’s not a flaw, everything is perfectly machined considered in the design so you’d want the slight Micro sag when still.

as long as you have a flat surface to work from, you'd be better off turning the heli till you find the level plane from left to right. Yes, there is always a level plane even on an unlevel surface. Take your level and lay it flat on your table and rotate the level till the bubble is center.

I know this is 11 yrs later (2/22 ), Instead of using a 'turn buckle", for the half turn, Why not use the sub-trim for the minute' adjustment ? , But I love your idea of using the older pitch gauges, These new digital ones suck, Even using a reference point and measuring it all at the same point, always flickering to the + - Degree, . I seen another vids where the guy is spinning the blade around with the pitch gauge wondering why its different readings all around,, and some suggesting the swash plate wasnt level,, It is important to kinda understand the concept of whats going on, To me, Even Micros, if out of control due to poor inputs in the radio or wrong adjustments are still a couple knive blades whipping around , can hurt you pretty bad, The truth be known that a couple years ago (2013 ) a 19 yr old from Brooklyn ny had , I believe a 700, doing aggressive 3D manuvers, an avid well experienced flyer, It killed him by decapitation.. and never be afraid to use the throttle hold if out of control..... that was my safety speech, lol ,But Great Video and Idea.

Excellent tutorial Patrick. Do you have a URL to those turnbuckles you purchased, and how did they work out?
