I love wearing color and especially mixing patterns! I feel like it's much easier as a woman, I've never had anyone criticize me for it.

I look good in what's traditionaly fall colors such as :burgundy, royal blues and purples, navy and dusty rose. I used to care about what other people think now don't give a F if people don't like color I wear it now especially after taking color theory class. Color theory class really helped me make smart color purchases . I wish at work I could wear all black because I work with a lot of colors . I'm digging that bright blue and yellow on you Dandy 😍 omg I wish I had more melamine often to pull off bright colors !

I used to have trouble color matching when I made jewelry. The best advice I ever got was, "Do you like it?" A lot of us don't trust ourselves to match colors well but at the same time we all have opinions. Before you get dressed lay out an outfit. Do you like it? If you're not sure maybe try again. If it really grabs you then you know you're onto something. Trust your own likes and dislikes. You know more than you think you do.

    • @DandyWellington
      @DandyWellington  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

YES! Such great advise. It's so important to trust yourself and have confidence. Thanks for watching!

I have to agree, color is the spice of life. Right now, my wardrobe tends to lean more towards Earth tones, but I plan on incorporating colors typically worn by the Iroquois people (reds, blues, and purples) due to my Native American heritage.

  • @JonasBelgi

Love the new set, that's a gorgeous color. You are completely correct that a lot of people, and I've very much noticed this with men, at least in the South, seem deeply afraid of being judged for wearing anything that could be considered "loud". I've always been attracted to wearing color, but you're totally right in that it does require some self-education as to what can go with what without looking garish. That red coat/pink shirt with the white collar/vest combo was PhD level color combination. The others were beautiful, and I would wear that mint green/brown ensemble in a heartbeat, but that red jacket combo was a fantastic way to show that you can create a complex combination and pull it off, as long as you have an appreciation not only for color theory, but also for how specific colors can play off your skin tone. I love yellows and golds, but if they're right up against me I look ill, so I have to find other ways to incorporating them, like pocket squares or ties. And sometimes a small but bright pop of color can be a super-effective means of wearing a color without it wearing you, as you beautifully demonstrated.

    • @DandyWellington
      @DandyWellington  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

This is a great break down of something I teach in my classes. Confidence and independence from other peoples negative opinions and also how to combine colors you like in ways that suit you. With yellow and gold I would suggest burgundy and brown; maybe even wearing forest green. These colors will anchor the yellow or gold and work with your skin tone. Thank for watching!

    • @JonasBelgi

@@DandyWellington This is going to be a touch long, lol. Thank you! I love your channel, both the music and, honestly, seeing another man seem to so effortlessly kill it both sonically and in terms of fashion. I love the entire vintage/historical costume community (I found you by way of Bernadette Banner), but I've had a harder time finding other guys I can relate to in this arena, so I deeply appreciate all the inspiration and advice! I like to consider myself pretty decent at color play, but literally every combination you just mentioned immediately clicked in my head, like "Why didn't I think of that?" And it so happens that I have both a forest green and a burgundy velvet blazer, so I can't wait to try those out! Thank you so much for the suggestion, it's such a joy to just watch you be you in such an authentic manner ad setting. Your perspective and the education you provide your audience is genuinely helping a LOT of people :)

Every one of those outfits showed pizzazz, but I gotta say, that blue and yellow combo was perfection. My favorite color is purple, but it looks dreadful on me. A pop of it, though, like on a tie or something, might be the perfect way to go. A single color, even from a small item, can take center stage without overpowering the senses.

I’ve slowly been integrating color into my wardrobe. Today I wore red shirt with a white squared pattern dress pants. It felt weird but I like that it looked nice. The winner for me goes to the mint green/brown combo!
I'm on my journey to wear more colours. It helps that I sew all my clothes and have more freedom by selecting the fabric first rather than the finished garment and be dependent on another's taste.
This video is a perfect reminder for me to actually wear the garments I made despite the odd looks I get.
And I loved all the cheeky little details in the outfits!

Kia ora (hello) from Aotearoa (nz) Dandy,
My name is Kahurangi, and it means cloak of the Sky Father in Maori. In Maori mythology, one of Rangi's sons, Tanemahuta, adorned him with stars.
So I am trying to take a cue from that piece of Maori mythology and adorn my clothing with glittery little touches.
I always start from a base of purple, as it has been my favourite colour since I was a little boy, and I have it in many different shades, both in formal and casual. I tend to wear black accents with it, such as shoes, socks, gloves, and some black patches that are part of the design of my favourite hooded jacket.
I also wear a pair of white spats which I made myself, that go well with just about anything, and for practicality's sake, any look I make has to accommodate my utility belt, which carries all my urban essentials, phone, keys, wallet, business cards, ID, etc.
One of the common combinations of colour I love is purple and gold, because those were colours of royalty which I believe really came into being in Ancient Rome, worn by the Caesars. I am also looking at getting a touch of silver into my colour palette, because I think gold, silver, and black go very well with purple.
I hope to be able to show you some images of what I mean sometime. I know you are very busy, managing the band, doing admin, doing these TH-cam videos, everything that goes into being a self-made stylish entertainer.
You continue to inspire me to be my best self by lighting up the world with my purple sartoriality.
    Nga mihi,
    Kahurangi :o)

This was really fun to watch! My colors are inspired by my enamel pin collection - Starting with a solid, collared piece to show off the accessory then tying the rest of the outfit to it. (Floral skirt, bright socks, cute shoes, etc.)

The biggest thing to consider when dressing vintage or more colorful or basically anything "different" is to be prepared to receive more attention! And that doesn't mean people judging you - almost always I get positive attention. But you have to be prepared for random strangers to stare at you, ask you questions, etc. You can't hide when you're wearing lots of color, or a dapper hat or fluffy petticoats 😂

I wear a lot of dark colors. I always have, but I recently bought a pair of bright yellow shoes on an impulse, and I love wearing them. They make me feel happy every time I see them, because they make me think of the song "Walking on Sunshine". Fast forward a few weeks, and I got a pair of bright reds. I know that they must clash with my dark colors and black fingernails, but I really like looking down and seeing colors that make me happy. I don't know if bright colors will eventually seep into the rest of my clothing, but I'm glad I decided to have fun with my shoes.

  • @sarahp6512

I definitely don't have this problem. If anything, I don't have enough neutrals in my wardrobe. Pretty much everything is bright shades of blue, green, purple, pink, and more recently, yellow and red, with tons of fun patterns. Floral? Galaxy print? Polka dots? Yes please. If I don't have at least one colorful piece in an outfit, I don't feel like myself.
I tend to treat blue like a neutral, because it goes with everything. My friends tease me for wearing too much blue, but it's such a pretty color. I'm starting to branch out from all cool tones all the time and add more warm tones, and I really like it.

Thanks you for this video! It encourages me to rethink about colors in my closet :-)
In the last months I watched so many videos about color in style and fashion... About the four season colour analysis; which color matches your skin tone (warm, cool, neutral) and hair color the best; about the effect of contrast and chroma and so on...
For me it came out I haven't done anything 'wrong' so far. I have a color palette in my wardrobe with different colors - but all with lower intensity. What I'm missing are accent colors that spark joy, give that little something to an outfit and make me feel special. I simply don't know which colors answer that purpose and complete my ecisting color pallette.

Awesome embroidery detail! 💓💓💓I'm really fond of all black with a bit of red.

I liked the red jacket with blue trousers the most. My problem with incorporateing color to my wardrobe is, that you have only one black suit but I don't even have a suit 😂. But I'm not afraid of color so it will come 😁

My favourite combo was brown with mint, but all of them look great! I like to wear all black because it's easier to "combine" (although, then when it's faded, you have different shades of black and i don't like it), but now i like to wear a lot of color incorporated in form of big patterns and prints. Since i love big flowy shirts, I'll use it as my star piece and build around it, often its just that piece, and the rest of the outfit will be black because yeah, i love black. Also, my main problem with color is that i love red, but i find it difficult to wear since i dye my hair copper/redish, and i don't want to look monochromatic, or i need something to like colorblock the upper part of the look.

Nothing to say beyond you're amazing, this video helped me so much with my approach to figuring out how to add color while changing and adapting my wardrobe to my personality, and you look good in every color like wth?

I love color and there are definitely some I will gravitate towards than others, but I often find myself more concerned with the lines and shape of a garment than with the color. If the shape looks good, chances are that I can make the color work too. Blues, greens, reds with neutral whites, creams, and blacks to make them pop and snap. My wedding gown was a great example. All white with varying texture that accentuated the lines of the gown and of me! It was medieval-vintage, if you can imagine that.

Everything you wear is Fabulous. The color of that rich clear yellow tie will be feeding my soul for a long time. Thank you for being your true self and bringing us all such happiness and bringing us closer to being freely ourselves.

Wearing colour makes one happy but seeing a well selected palette of colour ensemble brings a smile to those nearby. In my experience wearing colour (and vintage as well) makes a stranger say hi and the city or urban commute becomes that much more friendly and enjoyable.

I think Baskin Robbins or the green and brown are my favorite combos. Gosh I need to shop more of your style. Those high pants pockets are giving me so many ideas.

The biggest issue I have is that the places I have access to purchase from all think that women my size need to wear black. Most of the time the ‘fun splash of color’ is red which clashes with my hair... I have nothing against black or red. Once the pandemic is over in the next few years, I have every intention of visiting my seamstress for a better variety of clothes

This was such a pleasure to watch! The styles were amazing and the editing on point :D Last year I found out that I am super drawn to pinks and reds and since then it has become surprisingly easy to style an outfit for me because some things just feel like myself in these colors. I think we often just have to give ourselves the permission to be out of the norm. :)

Colors that are bright scares me. This was helpful. but still scary. What about shoes when you are doing this?

I love the blue and yellow! Yellow is my favourite colour, but also a difficult colour for me, because when it gets too close to orange, it looks so bad on me. It needs to be bright yellow or more toward green. But I do love colour and I try to wear it as much as possible. A colleague of mine thought I was brave when I showed her my turquoise shoes and I can't wait to show her my new blue, red and yellow shoes.

Yes, I love color in my outfits!! My favorite outfit in this video was the red jacket outfit. I loved that you had a tie bar to hold the tie in place. I have no idea why that went away from the normal way to wear a tie!! Ties flying around in the wind is not a good look. I love the way you dress and always look forward to what you will be wearing in the next video! Thank you so much!

My biggest challenge with wearing bold colors is looking completely alien in a city where everyday is rainy, sad, and gray.

My wardrobe is mostly blue but I’ve been branching out into greens and earth tones lately. People have always told me to only do two colors at once in an outfit but I think it looks so cool to have three colors, like the mint, brown, and white outfit you wore
