One of the earliest forms of westernized neckwear, the bowtie is subtext for sophistication and intellectualism due to it’s history of being worn but doctors, lawyer, architects, professors and the like. However subtext aside bowties can be worn by anyone (Male Identifying, Female Identifying, Non Binary) in both formal and casual settings.
I learned how to tie a bow tie about 10 years ago from a youtube video so I figured I'd make one of my own. Though many videos break down the steps, few use multiple types of bowties to help you learn best. I've included the Butterfly, Diamond Point, and Modified Butterfly and examples on how to style them. There is no greater sartorial skill then knowing how to tie a real bow tie. With this tutorial you can get rid of you pre tied, clip on, little boy bow ties and graduate to the expert levels of trying that tie.

Handsome as always. What thickness of fabric works best for your bowties? Thin silks, thicker brocades? Do you get them someplace special or all over NY? Hoping I can find a great pattern to make my own so glad to learn about the adjustment to necksize for the length. Or do you have to keep it about the width of your eyes, it looks like, when folded? I am living vicariously through your style.

Love the video. I have no idea why the other trillion or so videos I watched made it so complicated and convoluted. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I loved all the outfits at the end. It's impossible to select one as my absolute favourite. Totally crash and on fleek. Truly shiny. They make me pine for the days when men's fashion was actually fashionable. Of course I wasn't alive back then and we aren't supposed to miss what we never had; but somehow I do.
It isn't relevant to bow ties or men's fashion in general but for those interested here are the lyrics to the Captain Planet theme song. Thanks for the Captain Planet reference as well.
    "earth!" "fire!" "wind!" "water!" "heart!"
    "go planet!"
"by your powers combined, i am captain planet!"
    captain planet, he's a hero
gonna take pollution down to zero
    he's our powers magnified
and he's fighting on the planets side
    captain planet, he's a hero
gonna take pollution down to zero
    gonna help him put asunder
bad guys who like to loot and plunder
"you'll pay for this captain planet!"
"we're the planeteers, you can be one too!"
"cuz saving our planet is the thing to do!"
"looting and polluting is not the way!"
"hear what captain planet has to say!"
    "the power is yours!"

Your got me convinced. I'm gonna make bowties. And tie them, and wear them, ah I'm so excited!
Until then; have you got any plans on making a video on ties? I like the way you tie yours! I've noticed in other videos the way it "pokes out" (Is that how you would describe it? English is not my first language) . Anyway I think it looks nice and it would be cool to hear your thoughts on them! When do you reach for a tie and when a bowtie? Is it mood? Occation? And also DIMPLES! I've understood that is a thing and I haven't quite mastered how to make nice dimples. Im practicing tho! :D
Thanks for your enthusiastic nerdy love for fashion! I really enjoy your videos!

I wore a bow tie to the last two weddings I attended. The last one being my son's. I was the only man at both weddings to wear a bow tie. I received so many compliments from women, with all of them saying bow ties look so much classier. The only drawback with a bow tie; is that you can't loosen the knot and slack the tie. Once it's tied; it stays like that.

Speaking of the importance of the collar reminds me of our towns former mayor he always used to wear a red and white polka dotted bow tie but his collar was always the wrong shape it always was a cut away collar and i inew even as a female that that does not look good it kinda gave him along with his non existing hair styling the look of a mad scientist that just rolled out of bed

Love the tutorial, and will employ your lessons as soon as possible! I’ve been afraid of the bow ties in my drawer, and have avoided them for years.
