Nice to meet you, again ☺️😁...I remember seeing the video you showed here right when it was first published years ago and it left a lasting impression so much so that I was bummed to find out I wasn’t subscrito your channel as I wrongly assumed I was. Indeed we’re going through tough times however it is good that the wrongs are being made right and hopefully justice is served. As a minority myself , I know how it’s is to be discriminated by the cops and treated less than human because of it(me and my father were almost shot by police when we helped a neighbor move). Looking forward to seeing more of your videos and maybe some tips on how to get some of that chic clothing on a budget?
Bernadette Banner sent me. And I’m so glad she did. My favorite music is jazz from the 30’s and 40’s. Bring back Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Dinah Washington.
Same, except I like all music. Though also my dad plays in a jazz band, "summertime" is one of the songs I most know from when he used to sing it when I was a baby
I’m a woman who loves to wear men’s tailoring. Your style makes my brain burst with inspiration! More than that, I found what you had to say inspiring too. Looking forward to your future vids.
I sew my own clothes and let me tell you: your style is very inspiring! Through the process of making my own clothes I know the value of the work that goes into garments and repairing and caring for them is a no brainer.
Hello - new subscriber here - watching this video made me realize something. Since the "lockdown" started here in California, I've been slouching around the house in baggy jeans and a tshirt. I'm suddenly realizing my music (classical singer/harpist) has been suffering because I'm dressed like a bum. I've grown musically sloppy partly because my clothes are sloppy. I'm going to get dressed up and "go to work", even though I won't be leaving the house. Thank you!!
Your world is so brilliant, Dandy. Could you do a video on ironing/pressing clothes (or perhaps the general upkeep of vintage clothes) to make them ready to wear each day? I feel like I’d be scared to wash or iron anything vintage for fear of ruining it, but it has to be done somehow. The lost art of ironing must be passed on!
I am a recent subscriber and so glad I did. What you said is so true! Many people truly did not believe that racism was a 'thing' until now. Well, now they know and it will be interesting how they respond, stick to the movement and really work hard to get our police departments re-organized so they actually work on the 'real' crimes, instead of committing them. I am 68 and have been marching since the late 60s and into the 70s and beyond. I often wondered when our citizens would get off of the couch, stop making excuses and actually do something about the racism in this Country. Now we know. They needed to see a Black man murdered by a cop. Finally, white America has decided it's time to do something. Let's hope for your sake and all people of color, that real action will be taken this time and the movement will continue to push and push and push for real change, not alot of empty words. Thank you for speaking out. Take Good Care.
That red outfit with the vest that looks like a tapestry is so gorgeous! Somehow I never think of vintage menswear being very colourful, but I guess that's because of all the black & white photos.
First time I saw you was on Rachel Maksy's video about misconceptions about people who dress vintage and I was absolutely blown away by your style. I'm glad your follower count has grown. You deserve it.
It’s very interesting how the way we dress affects how people see us. When I dress differently from how people expect me to, they don’t know how to react, but to me it feels very natural to change up my style. I hope that the world is headed towards more open-minded and kinder ways of thinking.
Found you through your incredible comments in Rachel Maksy's video and I'm so glad I did! 30s and 40s fashion and music have been my growing obsessions for the past five years and you do both so well!!
1:37 If they stare at you it's because you are "bello"! Your style is elegant, interesting and full of personality. How much light give to life people like you!
I remember I saw you in on of Abby Cox's video but you were only on ig then. I watched Bernadette Banner's recent video and found you. On TH-cam!! I was so happy! Instantly subbed.
Thank you for posting this. Americans have a warped and idealized sense of their own history and what is acceptable as progress, because of the puritanical and Calvinists founding of this country where we decimated entire tribes of Native Americans and then continued further unspeakable atrocities on people of color. "We built this land" doesn't really apply if youre white. My parents are from Philly and my mom's actually originally from Portugal so I'm very lucky that they never shielded me from the truth to thank you for speaking out and being so strong and turning your history into a beautiful prideful thing
Love your style and how you mention your Jamaican heritage in your videos. I studied fashion, my mom could sew and my brother is a tailor. It's in our blood. Proud 🇯🇲 here.
You have such a lovely voice. Perfect for storytelling and for engaging the audience! I love your style as well, of course! Thank you for making these videos
Wonderful to get to know a little about you. It's not only in fashion, but also in art, your taste is impeccable. Those are some gorgeous paintings you have on your wall.
Rachel Maksy introduced you to me in her “Born in the Wrong Era” video. As someone who studied America history as an undergrad and later southern america history as a grad student it hurts me to see how ignorant Americans are about the past. It is so easy for people to say “all that was years ago, get over it” when they have no clue as to the generations of pain and abuse they are asking people to “get over”. Enjoying your channel very much
I just wanted to say that I think your style is debonair and if you don't mind me saying this sexy. But you are so right about what's going on in our country regarding racial discrimination, injustice and I, as a WASP (actually Catholic), am ashamed of the actions of those that advocate hate, prejudice and intolerance.
As usual, you're eloquent and hitting the nail on the head. I very much enjoy your content, the personality of your clothes, and your phenomenal singing. Thank you.
I'm a disabled lesbian; idk what people expect me to wear but most days I can't even put on my own trousers, which frankly feels less than great. So when I do get dressed, I like to feel fancy, and vintage does that best for me. I really appreciate your channel!
I just found your channel a few days ago, and I already love it! Your style and approach to not only fashion but the world at large are very inspiring, thank you for being you Dandy!
I love what you are doing with music and style. I hope more folks will begin to understand history and seek out a style for their lives that fits their spirits.
I was introduced to your channel from another historical dress channel, & when I saw your intro video I knew I would love you! When my husband & I first dated we went jazz & swing dancing, & he dressed very similar to you. And I’ve just found your music on iTunes❣️❣️ Keep being you!
Glad to have you around, Dandy. Your charm and style is disarming! It really is unfortunate that a wardrobe change can make that much of a difference in people's perception of an individual: a few layers of fabric difference between threat or no threat. Attitude as well, actions are still part of the equation, but which style of dress is likely to stir distrust and suspicion? It speaks to the deeper truth that racism is hard wired at this point, but dressing in a classic way not only looks fabulous; it also is shorthand for the virtues and positive associations our society has with the past. Men's legacies who survive as a shallow impression at times leave us with the architypical gentleman and hero of integrity. What we choose to forget and what dies in the past is that their lives were not so clear cut. Such a double edged sword, but it is necessary to carry on the dichotomy and intentionally distinguish oneself from the connotations of the past. #vintagestyleNOTvintagevalues Keep fighting the good fight, sir.
Mate... The green, brown, and cream/white (I'm still learning) was awesome. Truly beautiful. I'm pretty pale so I dunno how I'd go with it however much I like it but you nail it cobber 👍🏻 G'day from Australia and much love for what you do, what you say, and how you do both ❤🇦🇺
I discovered your channel through Bernadette Banner and Rachel Maksy, and I have adored watching through your repertoire the past two days. Winter Afternoon makes me so happy. I'm so glad I found this channel!!
I discovered you through a Rachel Maksy video, whom I discovered through a Bernadette Banner video. I'm bummed I'm so late to following you, because your skill, talent, confidence and beauty are BREATHTAKING! I'm now obsessed with everything you do!
I started following you a few months ago, so I'm excited to catch up on your videos! Also, that hat collection is rad! We need to bring back hats as daily wear for sure.
I just have to say it I love everything about you, your style, your music, your smile, everything. You are an inspiration and now I want to make some vintage inspired outfits, I already do some history bounding.
Found my way here through recomendations from some of the history and/or vintage channels I love. Your style is amazing and I really enjoy seeing some male vintage style. Ty for your work and this wonderful contend.
Hi there! I wandered over here thanks to Miss Bernadette Banner. I kind of fell down the vintage fashion rabbit hole thanks to a random TH-cam “You might like...” video, and as I’ve watched more and more such videos, I realized (with horror) that I’d never been directed to a non-white content creator. So, I’m rectifying that omission now. Love your style, and your music!
I’m so glad I hopped onto TH-cam to check out your channel. You are such a breath of fresh air. I love your style and music. ❤️ Keeping doing what you’re doing.
I found you through your segment in Rachel Maksy's video a few weeks ago about Vintage Style, Not Vintage Values. I was lucky enough to be awake (I'm in Australia) for your impromptu performance on instagram live last week and I loved it! Can't wait to learn more about you 💞
Bernadette Banner and Abby Cox helped me find you. I had already seen you in another video, not sure whose as I have been binge watching You Tube since lockdown. I love your style and want to thank you for sharing. Have a great week xx
So glad to meet you Dandy. I have been catching up on your videos and love them, you and your music. Thank you so much for your honesty and contribution to the arts as a whole...I am hooked!! Xoxo
Hey there! I find you delightful! I'm just really getting into the world of vintage and historical fashion. I've loved seeing and redesigning history for longer than I can remember. I found you through Bernadette, Rachel, Abby and the other cool people at American Duchess. Thanks for being your fun, snazzy self and for sharing yourself with the rest of us shmoes trolling the TH-cam! Keep on keeping on!
So glad to meet you in person back in 2015 and find your amazing work here on TH-cam now! Loved your closet tour and bow tie instruction in particular and hope we can make a change regarding the essential topics. #vintagefashionnotvintagevalues indeed. 💪😍❤ Greetings from Germany!
I found you through one of the vintage clothing channels I follow, I can't remember which one. I'm so happy I did though, because I love your music, as well as your style.
Love your style and your music! I just recently found your channel through Rachel Maksy, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the vibrant color you bring to life on your channel! Not many men are comfortable wearing bright colors, so it's a joy to see.
Wow, not only a fantastic musician, & fantastic vintage fashion guru, but the dance moves !!! Did you take ballet by any chance ?! You're very graceful !
My names Dandy Wellington. Welcome to my world.

It just stops me dead to see a man sporting such excellent vintage garments.
I love the music, I love the style. It just makes me feel comfortable and inspired to be who and what I am. THANK YOU!
Thank YOU! 🙏🏾

I love this! Especially about “knowing you have to repair items sometimes”.
He's a inspiration to me. Coming from another black man.
Let them stare. I think you're FABULOUS!!!

Literally the most impressive human I’ve virtually met with Today ...
Looking dapper as always. Vintage fashion, not vintage values.
What a style! What a voice ! What a man!
“People stop and stare, they don’t bother me...” Well, now I’m mentally casting a production of My Fair Lady with you as Freddie.
Bernadette Banner sent me, and I'm glad she did--you, sir, are a delight! xoxoxoxoxo
What a distinguished gentleman! So distinguished!
Love your style and how you mention your Jamaican heritage in your videos. I studied fashion, my mom could sew and my brother is a tailor. It's in our blood. Proud 🇯🇲 here.
