      It’s because Lebron doesn’t have a great reliable jump shot, & is not great off the ball. We saw a pre prime age 23 Durant, make the nba finals with him, beat the Spurs, lakers, & dethrone the Mavs as nba champs, all in the same run. Lebron is allegedly the goat. But Lebron mostly scores layups dominating on the ball, same way Westbrook plays, so they don’t compliment one another. Lebron’s game doesn’t fit any type of player personnel. Then this team doesn’t defend. Lebron always has an escape goat from the media.

    "They didn't have to give up much" - they gave up almost all of their youthful energy necessary to defend while their old guys can't. You can look at the names they gave up and say those were just role players but look at the end result - near total collapse. That's giving up too much, especially when you consider they could have had DeRozan/Hield + Caruso

    • @briantep458

      At least westbrook is still on the court. The lakers traded away Adrian Dantley for Spencer Haywood in the late 70s. Dantley went on to be a hall of famer for Utah with 3 straight scoring tiltles 81-84 and 6 straight all stars. Meanwhile Haywood had drug problems and was gone by 79. They also traded Caron Butler for Kwame Brown. Caron went on to have All Star numbers with the Wizards. They didnt actually give up much to get westbrook so it can't be the worst trade.

  • @Meru112
    @Meru112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    Outside of the basketball fit issues with Westbrook, my biggest issue has been Westbrook’s MENTALITY. He hasn’t taken accountability for playing poorly, he said “winning a championship doesn’t affect my career”, he hasn’t repped the city hard when that’s expected as a Laker, he said he had no expectations going into this season?!?!… when you hear the man speak, it does NOT scream “I wanna be a laker, and I’ll do anything to win a championship as a Laker.” For those reasons alone (setting aside his play), I want him gone. Been a hardcore laker fan (born and raised in LA) my whole life, and I’m done with this dude.

      Facts, his play is bad enough but you cannot go to such a storied franchise with that attitude. When Bron arrived he verbally let it be known he’s there to win, same with AD. Even if they have their hiccups they’ve never shown the nonchalant attitude Russ has to winning. It’s as if he’s there just to be there.

      I'm not here to defend Russ, his shortcomings have been known for years anyway. But I sincerely doubt he doesn't he care. He's too proud to admit his deficiencies though. The real problem being that he never had to adjust his game in the past, because he had his incredible athleticism to fall back on. How are you going to hold someone "accountable" who puts up nightly triple dubs, scores above 20 ppg and carries his team (OKC)?
      I really think Russ is in a tough spot, one he wouldn't admit to himself. He's too high profile, too achieved and takes up way too much space to come off the bench, but then he will also never be the core of a team that wins it all- even if you were to build it entirely around his qualities as a player. 5 years ago, with that athleticism, a different mindset and a higher bball IQ? Maybe.

      Its comical, anyone who knows basketball knew those 3x2s were a gimmick and that any team without 4 shooters on the court with Westbrook would struggle. The irony of the whole situation? The Lakers knew this before they traded for him, 2020 in the bubble, LAL vs Hou the Lakers were literally leaving him open for 3, defending him solely for the drive... It looked god awful.

      @dblack9704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was numerous analysts on espn who said it was a bad trade after it was made. The only reason people thought it would work is because LeBron usually makes a situation ideal. But LeBron and Russ lack of shooting is getting exposed. Causing AD to shoot a season low because he has to compensate and take shots he usually doesn't

  • @jalenwoolfolk2131
    @jalenwoolfolk2131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This is about as bad as the trade to get Dwight and Steve Nash. That Laker team was horrible like this season and Kobe tore his Achilles a few weeks before the playoffs. Lebron might be on the verge of the same thing but with his knee. Dwight had an ailing back like AD has an ailing body and Nash was hurt and useless like Westbrook is useless. But Kobe actually led them to a 47-35 record and he deserved MVP that season.

    • @sholovesholove4620
      @sholovesholove4620 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dwight had a bad back, but STILL played 76 games, and still averaged 17pts and 12 rebs per game. Ron artest was still an elite defender, and Kobe was in year 14. Lebron is playing with journeymen, which INCLUDES Westbrook because he was traded 3 times in 3 consecutive years. Frank vogel was trash before he got to LA (I'm going by his record and his coaching with the previous team) Not to mention lebron being in year 19.
      These circumstances are very different

Now, everyone praises the win-at-all-costs attitude of CP3 and Jimmy Butler, and condemns the lackadaisical attitude of Westbrook. I know that CP3 and Jimmy haven't won any rings as of yet, but you know that they are trying their absolute hardest to win every single time they touch the court. People again fell in love with stat. A lot of Westbrook triple double stats at OKC didn't translate to wins. If you watch OKC, Steven Adams let Westbrook grab 5-6 rebounds a game on purpose so he can add up his rebound stats. His shooting percentage were always in the low 40 percent. Westbrook knew as soon KD left he was never going to win a ring being the main scorer so he settled for a few seasons of triple double average so he can get into the HOF. Stats is overrated. Watch the game instead.

    I didn't envision this at all when this trade happened. Yes there were concerns but I felt LBJ would figure it out bc he signed off on Russ coming to the Lakers. Russ is just not a fit for the team bc he's not a shooter. he needs the ball in his hands to be effective. when AD and Bron are on the court Russ is a spot up shooter that's not his game. so he needs to come off the bench and lead the 2nd unit. that should be his role on this team.

      @@dwightyawg7781 you must love Westbrook.... LeBron is a Point Forward... just like Draymond Green and Scottie Pippen.. they innitiate the offence; Westbrook is a PG who can't shoot and uses his athlethism to score buckets (he is older now and speed will drop) - Westbrook is a terrible percentage shooter of the deep ball but it is purely mechanism and form of set jump shot. If he led the second unit; It would make sense; start him for a bit then rest him and then use him to lead the second unit.

    • @DOUBLECW

      The Lakers could have still re-signed Caruso, but they chose not to because of the luxury tax implications. If they believed AC was a superstar, they would've kept him despite the luxury tax. It could be argued that they chose THT over Caruso because he has a greater upside potential.

Marc was considered a afterthought in that trade because Memphis received his draft rights because he was playing overseas and hadn’t played a game in the nba.
