    For those who are curious, Shulk forms his own Monado through his party's combined strength, yes, but it is ultimately Alvis who grants him the power. As providence incarnate, he was playing on both Zanza and Shulk's sides to determine who should become the ruler of the new world. As we see at the end of the game, he picks Shulk over Zanza.
    To quote the Monado Archive:
    "As the entity managing and granting the existence of gods such as Zanza and Meyneth, he uses the passage of fate to guide this doomed world towards a new existence. He is searching for a new god, one he can trust to liberate this stagnant world, and create a new world teeming with new forms of life."
    This also ties into the game's Gnostic themes, as seen in this well written excerpt I'm borrowing off of a forum post:
    The Monado is analogous to the idea of the Monad, a conduit to the divine with a variety of levels depending on closeness to god. These levels are represented in game by each successive Monado power and symbol you obtain.
    Ultimately Zanza represents the Gnostic demiurge, a physical false god who created a world of suffering who thinks himself to begod. Alvis represents the true god, who exists outside of the physical world who you can only discover within yourself.
    By the end of the game, Shulk has gone beyond needing to use Zanza as a conduit to be close to god and is able to draw on the power of god on his own. The true Monado. Shulk rejects the destructive impulses of the demiurge, embraces the compassionate god within, and is able to exist outside of the destructive cycle of samsara with his friends.
    Xenogears fans will also find him analogous to Wave Existence.

    • @Nuvendil
      @Nuvendil ปีที่แล้ว +24

      It actually goes even farther than parallels, Xenoblade 1 is pretty much an allegory of the Gnostic mythology. Alvis the Homs is an Aeon, Alvis proper is the Monad, Meyneth and Zanza are Demiurges (both the benevolent but unwittingly destructive and the ignorant and malignant varieties), the Monados are physical representations of attaining Gnosis and the divine power (pulling double duty), the returning of the Monado to Alvis is the returning of preeminence to the Monad, the limited, unreal world of Bionis and Mechonis is literally destroyed so that a version of the original, vast universe can be remade in the same way Gnosis allows man to escape the illusory world below to the true reality and so on.

    • @the_maverickk
      @the_maverickk ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yeah that was more or less my understanding regarding Shulk's Monado. That it was Alvis who had granted him access to it. If I'm not mistaken that's why Zanza blames Alvis, and says "why do you betray me", and in response Alvis says "I am Monado". Says he was there since the beginning and that he will declare the end.
      In essence Alvis (Ontos) is more god than even Zanza was... which makes sense since it was apart of the computer program that triggered the creation of these alternate universes through the the Conduit.

    • @Argorox
      @Argorox ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Nuvendil Pneuma, Logos, and Ousia (which the english version of XC2 renamed to Ontos for some reason even though his name is right there in Greek letters) are the Gnostic trinity; major aeons that emanate from the Monad that correspond to the Christian Holy Spirit, Son, and Father respectively. It's unclear if we have met THE Monad yet. Technically aeons themselves can be considered lesser Monads, and Ontos and Pneuma both create 3 swords; effectively splitting themselves into their own lesser Trinity. However I believe that when Alvis refers to himself as The Monado at the end of 1 that is THE Monad speaking through him. We can assume The Monad exists since the implication at the end of XC2 is that The Monad heard Pyra and Mythra's prayers to continue to live for a little longer and reactivated their core crystal while splitting them into separate entities. When see a spark of Conduit energy float down from space and reactivate the core crystal.

    • @Nuvendil
      @Nuvendil ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Argorox Actually, Pyra and Mythra splitting was a logical outcome of resonating with Rex. They had never actually resonated with a new driver after Mythra and Pyra were created. Blades are merely beings created using data contained in their cores. In the case of Pneuma, there were technically 3: Pneuma, Mythra (created by Pneuma), and Pyra (created by Mythra). Pneuma is seperated from the core in the final act. We actually see how this works earlier with Akhos having his core ripped out. The blade dies but the core remains, presumably with it's other data and energy intact.
      In the case of Pneuma, thr Pneuma form data is lost and Pyra and Mythra remain. Upon resonance, two beings are created as a result. This would have happened before, but Pyra and Mythra had never actually returned to their cores.

    • @Argorox
      @Argorox ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Nuvendil Malos explains what Pneuma did at the end in Chapter 7. She transferred her whole core to Rex and used all that data within to create a new heart for Rex. Malos explains that Aegises specifically have the ability to survive for a short time without a core crystal. Pneuma's sacrifice would have been final; her core crystal was completely dead. Watch the ending of the game again. One Last You is Pneuma praying to God for more time on Earth. Watch closely in the scene before the core crystal reactivates. A golden ball of light floats down from Heaven and enters the core crystal and causes it to reactivate; it's easy to miss because of all the World Tree debris burning up in the atmosphere. Pyra and Mythra coming back has nothing to do with normal blade resonance; it was a divine miracle. It was the Monad answering their prayers.

    One minor critique. you mention that they survive the fall from sword valley due to landing in water and they actually reveal (in like 2 seconds of the 12 hours of cutscenes, this particular one being on the beach after the fall) that it was mayneth that saved them from the fall. That is when Shulk changes his mind about hating mayneth (although he doesn’t actually know who she is at that time)

    There's a lot of these "recap" videos being done right now, but as a Xenoblade fan this one is honestly one of the best. Got all of it's facts right, and didn't inject any questionable interpretations or debated points. Cut out some of the unnecessary fluff.
    Was disappointed by Gamexplains honestly, got a lot of stuff wrong. That would be the recap vid I advise people to avoid.

    • @Leo1964
      @Leo1964 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There were some inaccuracies, such as Shulk and Fiora surviving the fall because of water when it was actually due to Meyneth and Shulk's manifestation of the 3rd monado was granted by Alvis as the Monado, the true god of that universe and as an aegis who is able to form 3 blades, rather than solely "friendship is magic", but otherwise a very solid recap.

    I find it interesting that the traits that both halves of klaus possess correspond to both halves of the human brain. The right side (emotional, artistic) stayed in the world of Alrest while the left (logical, spoken) went to become the Bionis.
    We hear the Architect speak many times about the guilt and emotional pain he felt as a result of his action, showing guilt and sadness of how the world had become. And his solution to restoring the world was that of an artistic nature, planting seeds and allowing the world to florish into a budding new civilization, simply watching over it and tweaking things here and there.
    Then there's Zanza who played in absolutes. "I created this world, therefore I am God" and squashed anyone who might oppose that view. He dealt directly with his ambitions and created calculated plans to bring about his objectives of being the almighty God of his world. His reasoning may have been flawed, but he dealt with words and reason and much less emotional or artistic means.
    I just thought this was super cool that the literal parts of Kalus's brain are represented in the personalities of both his halves. It may not be intentional in the first game, but it most certainly is by the second.

    • @LostChildOfTime
      @LostChildOfTime ปีที่แล้ว

      Given how vast the actual story of Xenogears was, it was likely planned out for Klaus to have two different sides before the first Xenoblade Chronicles was done.

    Potentially Important fact about how Shulk got the true monado:
    When shulk is dead for a bit, alvis visits him in space memory and their conversation leads to shulk putting his hand over his chest and resonating with alvis in a way uncannily similar to how drivers resonate with blades in 2. Its after this moment that shulk comes back to life, and even without zanzas monado, only using a replica, can still have visions and do monado arts. This is because alvis has bestowed a monado upon him, which he awakens physically as Monado III, and it stays with him from that point until he gives it up to wish for his new world after killing Zanza. So yeah just wanted to point out that it did have a legitimate reason and wasnt random.

    This isn’t bad but there are few minor errors than might be worth knowing about. I think a key one for understanding the first game and it’s connection to the others is that Alvis didn’t just appear in that XC1 world when all this adventure was happening. He arrived when the souls of the two scientists were just existing, with no bodies and no real life. Alvis created for them both a Monado, which is like a security key to access the power of the Conduit/Zohar. The conduit gets its power from another dimension. Alvis can tap into that power provided by the conduit. And in this new world, Alvis is allowing Zanza and Mayneth to access some of that power through him. This is why they appear as gods but Zanza is technically a demiurge type of character, commonly used in Xeno games (e.g. Deus in Gears).
    Alvis is connected to everything happening in the world of XC1 and responsible for the power the two scientists were given there as gods. He didn’t just vanish from our world (XC2 world) and find himself in a world with two big titans. He is the one that bestowed the Monados upon them, giving them the ability to have Titan bodies, create life etc.

      yeah not many people realize this and that the monados are in fact aegis exclusive blade weapons. they try to use zanza and meyneth's monados to dismiss that fact not realizing if they played xenoblade 2, pyra/mythra/pneuma also has 3 aegis swords for each form, and the fact malos has his own monado. alvis is a aegis and the source of monados in xenoblade 1. he literally calls himself monado.

    5:55 The High Entia must have already been aware of their alter forms when they captured Zanza, whether through pure knowledge or experience. This was why Melania was destined to be the Empress, being of mixed origins and descendent of multiple generations of mixing, her DNA was deemed worthy by her ancestors to enter the High Entia Tomb to be the next ruler. They have been aware of their destiny of transformation into Telethia, that was why they have been intermixing with Homs for generations to dilute their Telethia gene.

    I’m pretty sure Xenoblade 2 ends in the Xenoblade 1 universe with Pnuema transporting everyone to it. The Titans connect together with the remains of Bionis and Mechonis, pretty obvious by how areas from both games are fused together in Xenoblade 3. Also pyra and Mythra probably appear separate because of shulks wish for a world without gods, meaning that pyra and Mythra can still exist but not Pneuma

    Hi so I've had XC1 and 2 on my backlog for YEARS. I've put a few hours in to both but nothing substantial enough to get more than a basis for their stories. However, Im SO hyped for 3 because I've always really wanted to love these games. I know that they're all connected, I just don't know how. Would I massively lose out on the experience of 3 if i started with it and then beat 1 and 2 later?

    • @Srefanius
      @Srefanius ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, even having played them you sometimes don't understand how they are connected. 1 and 2 play in two parallel universes that are connected by their creator? Or something like that. In 3 both of them come together as far as I understand. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if the the main factions in 3 are basically representing the worlds of 1 and 2 somehow. The strength of the games are more the characters anyways. You may get confused by the main plot when playing a xenoblade game, but the characters will grow to your heart and take you on an epic journey. That's kind of the core of the games, not so much the background lore. It's really not that important in order to enjoy them imo.

    • @ShurikanBlade
      @ShurikanBlade ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll probably appreciate 3 more if you have a full understanding of 1 and 2. I played 2 first and I recently replayed 1 and I'm not rewatching all the cutscenes of 2 because when they mentioned ontos it all went over my head. So I'm basically replaying it to full appreciate 2. Then I can fully appreciate 3. All the cutscenes are on yourube but 1 has 10 hours of cutscenese while 2 has 12 hours. I'd recommend holding off on 3 and play the others first but the director of Xenoblade said 3 can also be an entry point but you probably won't understand every little detail.

    The monado is a tool that brings it's user's will to reality, (I know Xenoblade has tons of gnostic themes, but it also reminds me of how the tetragrammaton can be understood as meaning, "Causes to become" which is very much what the Monado does) Shulk attaining his own could be easily handwaved as some mixture of Shulk's will being stronger than Zanza's(Shulk's will affecting reality can be seen when he manages to damage faced mechon before the monado II upgrade, he's overpowering the restriction Zanza placed on it even if just a little). Or him using the monado for so long it's powers rubbed off on him, any mixture of that and a few other things are all alluded to much more than just power of friendship asspull.

      The most redeeming thing about that scene, is the after battle conversation between blade Nia and Rex that can happen after that point:
      Rex: "Hey, Nia... About that thing you said, you know, that one time... I uh... well..."
      Nia: "Eh? Oh right! Hehe... You're asking now? Now's not the time, we can talk later!"
      It makes it pretty clear that it was both entirely romantic on Nias side, and Rex, moronic as he is about those sorts of things (i mean, he's only 15), didn't get what she actually meant. But the fact that he brings it up at all in such a basful way, suggests that he somehow figured it out at some point, and he at least wanna talk to her about it, which sadly only happens off screen, if at all...
      So she was friendzoned, but i don't think it was entirely intended by Rex, at least not in as harshly a way as it came across...
      And i mean, the entire crew, Rex, Mythra, Pyra and Nia holding hands in the new world on the titlescreen after beating the game suggests that, whatever happened, they are all extremely happy where they ended up. But i guess we have to wait and see if XC3 brigs them up so we can see what happened to them after the merging of the two worlds, along with the XC1 crew...

    Jin wants to destroy humans because he saw what they do, for instance people like Amalthus do, take blades as slaves, controls their destiny, their culture, hence it goes beyond what happened to Lora. He wants to kill the architect because he is the responsible for creating this system, which is oppressive for blades (Jin does not know the details of why the architect created all things the way they are, so that is the only conclusion he could get).

      Definitive Edition changed Alvis necklace to look like a core crystal. But if you want more evidence. Malos himself uses a Monado which means the Monado is a manifestation of the Trinity Core Processors near godlike powers. Another thing is how Shulk obtained the True Monado. He didn't really create it through the power of friendship, Alvis resonated with him to let him create his own Monado. Alvis himself states that he was there at the very beginning and will proclaim the end meaning he was the one who gave the Monado's to Zanza and Meyneth to begin with. This is parallel to Rex who gained near godlike powers after awakening Pneuma.
      Theres also a bunch of connections to Gnosticism but I'm too dumb to explain that so you should look elsewhere.

    Xbc one has its flaws, however it is a story that I love. A theory that I think most have thought about after playing xbc2, is that shulk is able to get that new sword due to Alvis, as he is an aegis, and using shulk as a driver he allows him to use his sword the monado.
    Also one thing that I do not like about the xbc3 story cast as far as I know is that, in xbc2 they give more attention to nopons, as tora is somewhat the comedy relief, he is an engineer, and quite big for a young nopon xD, anyway is that the nopons in xbc3 are not main cast but heroes, so they turned them into sidekicks, like punch in the guts, "you call others your sidekicks, now you are the sidekicks!" I'd like to have seen both nopon acting separately instead as a unit, but oh well...
