Kenpachi being the second strongest is not that controversial at least to me. Its a list about who is the strongest not who is the most powerful. Strength is just one aspect and Kenpachi does lack in other areas thus allowing someone that is more balanced, a bad match up, or just smarter then him to overtake him
Well my friend right now kenpachi is weaker than shunsui because of him not able to control his bankia and not even able to withstand his own strength. The reason I put kenpachi 2 also because kenpachi can’t even use his full strength in bankia from yet. But in about 10 years kenpachi will easily surpass shunsui when kenpachi learns the name and is able to control his bankia
It's not broken, it has terrible reach and relies far too much on the user being fast and durable enough to get close to the target. And even if she gets close enough there are ways to stop yourself from being pierced, for example, an Arrancar is strong enough Hierro wouldn't be affected, the same could be said for any shinigami with a ton more spiritual pressure than her as seen in the first Ichigo Kenpachi fight where Ichigo despite hitting Kenpachi full force couldn't even scratch him. Her Shikai has a few other weaknesses, like how she is forced to give up the blades form so she has to be on the offensive as she won't be able to defend very well using a literal tooth pick.
It sounds like good hack to win against stronger enemies except it can be stopped by various methods. Like she herself stopped it using her reiatsu amp (shunko) fighting against her zanpaktou. Same goes for enemy with large difference in reiatsu i.e. Ichigo couldn't cut the skin of Kenpachi, so it's pretty useless against these kinds of enemies.
Notice how Kyoraku and Yamaji difference in Leadership.Yamaji fought whoever he thinks is an enemy, regardless of who they are or what they are.But for Kyoraku like he said is a dirty fighter,he took the risk by bringing Aizen out to help them and the most fuck up thing about him is that he is ready to make any deal from the devil to protect Soul Society
I don't understand, did these people not get bankai and they just changed the rules? Or did the obtain it in that ten years.. I mean iba kind of suxxxxxxxx so I don't think so but who knows. If that's the case really the only people should have been renji, ikkaku or hisagi, because we know now he's had his bankai for a bit.

I mostly agree with this list other than I would definitely switch 4 and 5. I’d keep Mayuri as 5 because he IS smart, but he’s not Urahara or Aizen smart, and he’s honestly mid in combat strength among the captains. For Toshiro I would keep him 4th even though he’s comparable to Byakuya in combat strength, but like you said he doesn’t have the experience that most other captains have which is where Byakuya outdoes him. Now in most other instances Shunsui would definitely be number 1, however if it came down to a death fight between him and Kenpachi, then kenpachi would end up winning, although I do think it would take almost everything for him to do it. Remember Kenpachi was one of the 5 Special War Powers that Yhwach feared due to his immeasurable and unmatched strength, Yhwach wanted every one of them out of the way because even a single one of them he stated could turn the tide of the war. Because of all this my list would been the same except the top 5 would go 1.Kenpachi 2.Shunsui 3.Byakuya 4.Toshiro 5.Mayuri. Also I’d like to point out that people forget that Gerard wasn’t just a powerful Quincy he was literally the “heart” of the soul king, and was practically immortal. I truly believe Gerard was going to win if Yhwach hadn’t absorbed him, and I actually think people downplay just how powerful he was, but I digress. Other than that list was spot on

Duane Scott I actually think Toshiro beats Byakuya instantly if he uses Senbonsakura Kageyoshi . Toshiro can easily freeze Gerard’s bow byakuyas swords wouldn’t be a problem , that would then leave Byakuya open for attack and Toshiro has better physical feats than shikai kenpachi so he is definitely the better in a sword to sword fight

I basically agreed with all positions in your ranking but one: Byakuya in third. I swear I'm not fan based since he isn't my favorite captain but Unohana is. Try hearing me out: Among the four captains that had their bankais stolen, he was the only one that had been trained by the Squad Zero, just like Ichigo, Renji and Rukia (and this is a huge power boost). In addition to this, he had less time than the other three to train since he was still recovering from his fight against Äs Nödt but he managed to get his act together and concluded his training in Soul King's Palace, what I personally think that his own zanpakuto had a little boost, but we couldn't see it aside from Ikka Senjinka. After this, with his bankai, he could defeat four sternritters at the same time while the others (Renji, Rukia, Hisagi, Ikkaku and Ayasegawa) were fighting 1 vs 1, slaughtered Gerard before his vollständig and after its liberation, Byakuya was there holding on fighting, supporting and saving the others until the very end of the fight (after Toshiro was exhausted because of his aging and Kenpachi lost his arm because of his bankai's absurd power). Oh, another thing, after Gerard became that massive titan, Byakuya could still explode his head even after he was so boosted by his miracles (Ikka Senjinka is so OP). I know that Kenpachi's power is INSANE right now, but, counting another skills like you did with the other captains, I personally think that Byakuya is still stronger than Kenpachi (not in pure strenght, but in versatility and strategies in battle). Raphael Freitas finally someone who actually remembers what byakuya did, while people be overeating tosh’s bankai when it literally could only freeze him so byakuya could attack, he did destroy his Hoffnung but that didn’t matter since that’s not what makes Gerard strong

Man I could not agree more if you just look at what all he did effortless even off screen fighting for sternritter and then fighting the miracle he was the first to start fighting him and was still in the best fighting condition at the end of the fight unlike kenpachi or shiro.
What pissed me off the most bout the TYBW arc was the the Vizards being thrown around so weakly , some of the captains not having a definitive moment that makes people see why they were captains in the first place and of course the zero squad being done in offscreen like WTF this all because of lack of planning ahead in the story 🤦♂️

Those charts were read like this: every captain has it's own 600 potential maximum which is different from theoretical 600 of another one, and numbers show personal captain's potential fulfillment. Which meant Yama and Aizen were almost on their peak (with Yama being old thus losing endurance if I remember correctly)
I agree with almost everything in this video, with the exception of Soifon's position. I think Kensei and Rose are above her and we just never got to see them use their full potential, as in bankai with the hollow mask on. Rose would have defeated mask if he had just remained silent, and I can't see Soifon even getting close to that.

I think your list is solid, only change I would say is swapping 3 and 4. I think Mayuri is more formable. Byakuya is great as all around like you said.
If we do a Top 5 based on powers of the Captains , and how they would do against other characters , like a battle royal , I think the Top 5 would be : 5) Mayuri , he is like batman , he can pretty much beat all captains with preparation ahead of time, but if it's with only with what he have , I think he would come short against many of the other cast 4) Toshiro , his bankai is already strong , he has the petal flowers that can instantly kill you, and when his bankai is gone , he goes into his power up adult mode, that he can flash freeze enemies in seconds , and I am sure that power against other characters would be insanely overpower. It was only used against a "bullshit hope power", if his new power was used on another character , it would be in most cases instant death. If Toshiro keeps training , he will become like Yamamoto but ice version 3) Byakuya, I am sure he got an insane power up on his base form , and with his bankai he is broken. Having like almost inifinity of petals that are like swords around you , be insanely fast , be strong defensively and offensively, he is pretty much unotuchable. 2) Shunsui has a lot of tricks under his belt , an insane amount of experience , direct pupil from Yamamoto, and his power is super deadly. 1) Zaraki Kenpachi , he has the strongest spiritual energy from all the captains , he has been given the name Kenpachi , the guy with his freaky shikai has defeated many top tier characters that other captains required their bankai. He has insane battle reaction and analysis of the situation , he can figure out tricks or your "gimmick" power, and come on top with just raw strength. The guy cut a meteor into pieces with no EFFORT !
while i agree that kenpachi doesnt always show some crazy intelligence or strategy in his fighting, i dont think you can characterize him into those sorts of mindless only fighting, rushing into everything characters. He's definitely made the seem that way, but what really gains intelligence with him is his combat experience, he almost definitely has more than 99% of the characters. And that experience helps him incredibly against characters with tricky abilities. When he was fighting Gremmy, he instantly realized that Yachiro's bones were back to normal while Gremmy was distracted. He played it off like "well isn't it obvious, it can't last forever", but he acted so fast on it, like how he realized he could damage Gremmy if he slashed faster than Gremmy thought of healing. The point is hes quick to figure stuff out and when things don't work, which is perfect for smart or tricky enemies. The only thing i agree with is that he isn't patient, and can rush, but its so off the mark to say he lacks intelligence or missed out in crucial lessons.
Shinji has some setup to be a super op hax character and then just got dropped. That time he evaded the millisecond length swing from Tozen was honestly amazing. His bankai too was hax and should’ve given him way more utility. Same as the other viz though😢

The thing about the Vizard Captains in the Arrancar arc is that they all ended up in bad matches, or not using Bankais. Kensei got bodied by a beast designed to kill Yamamoto. It’s only fair. Rose didn’t get to use his bankai against a resurrected Coyote. Of course one could say that shunsui fought stark by himself in his Shikai and was winning, but the vast difference in power between a man who was among the eldest captains and Rose is huge.
I have to disagree with you about Lisa! I think she was definitely Captain level. She was able to defend herself against a hollowfied bankai Ichigo. She was able to fight against Haribel, who is a high Captain level character, even though she had support. She was vice captain level 100 years ago, she surely has gotten stronger. I cant imagine any other vice captain fighting toe to toe with Haribel like that. Great videos btw!! Keep it up!
Rukia loses all the time until someone shows up. Either Ichigo or Byakuya. The only person she ever defeats in canon is the ninth espada and she almost dies

It's hard to rank Zaraki since he's still growing and getting stronger. The series ended without him mastering his bankai, but he was already too OP even at that stage. Kyoraku is the trickiest of them all, even of he doesn'r have the strongest zanpakuto (still one of the strongest). He is the oldest and most experoenced of them all, with Yamamoto, Ukitake, Unohana dead. He is one of the smartest characters too. He will be tricky to fight, since you can't really beat him through brute force. As of the current state of Zaraki who can't control his bankai, Toshirou who is too young and inexperienced, and control of his bankai, and with Byakuya who's not really a good match in terms of Zanpakuto with Kyoraku, and Mayuri who doesnt have data on him, Kyorako deserves the postion as Captain Commander. His zanpakuto is the scariest of them all. It abilities, its range. His intellect, his fighting style, his experience, and his reiatsu. He can slaughter them all. Toshirou can still be strong, and has the greatest potential since he is the youngest. Byakuya's development wasn't shown despite his level up from being healed in Soul King Palace. Mayuri is also a difficult opponen, tricky like Kyoraku. Give him a little time and data and he's unbeatable. The other captains will just brute force everything. Kensei and Rose and Shinji were disappointing. Vizords, actually from older generation, yet still LAME. Iba and Isane are weak and dont have enough feats. Chad, Ikaku, Renji will trash them. Rukia, hmm, strong but still lacks experience compared to many. Soi Fon is powerful but her bankai is lame, especially if she faces captain-level opponents.
And one thing that I loved that Shunsui says to Lillie is when they’re talking about reiatsu when Lillie says that he wouldn’t mistake his reiatsu for something else and Shunsui says “Oh but you would! You must’ve forgotten that you’re talking to THE CAPTAIN COMMANDER” I love that part so much and sorry if I didn’t quote what he said verbatim it’s been a long time since I’ve read it

They were being taken care of by isane and Yachiru and gremmy killed them while they were unconscious
Yeah its an important point. Hitsugaya and likely even rukia are clearly more powerful then mayuri by the end...but they dont have the skills of that psycho or his willingness to go to such lengths

@@zephrosyne not really, he deserved that ending, i mean why would you fight an enemy with only 1 arm, that is already looking down on your opponent, Yhwach came more prepare thus won, and even then most of Yhwach power was sealed and only in his fight with Ichibei did the time come to awaken his true power and open his eyes otherwise all of his SR would of died. Yamamoto never stood a chance from the start.
And Shunsui is clearly a genius. Every time I've watched Shunsui he has always been shown to be supremely intelligent even to the point of being the only other person besides Shinji Hirako to distrust Aizen when he was Lieutenant of Squad 5.

Shinji can beat anyone in the series with that hacks bankai, except for maybe kenpachi and Yamamoto because of the spirit pressure dimensions, like how soi Fons hacks didn’t work against aizen because how he was a “spiritual pressure dimension” ahead of her

I completely agree with your list. Shunsui is terrifying because even if you manage to push him into Bankai which even Stark could not do... I feel like the moment he goes Bankai and begins telling the story it's over. By the time someone grasps what is happening to them they're already dead pretty much. Great list!!!!
@@christopherwilson868 Shikai Shunsui and release stark were pretty much nekc and neck in terms of Speed, Power etc, Shunsui just had the better ability which is why he won. using Bankai would of been a one side slaughter, 5-10x boost is pretty massive, like comparing a child to a grown adult, look at Byakuya Shikai and Bankai difference shit is massive.
One thing that many people forget about Shunsui's battle with Starrk was that Shunsui WAS about to go Bankai when the Espada used Cero Metralleta. If Ukitake hadn't joined in the battle, then Shunsui would have used Bankai Shunsui: Actually...I WAS going to use my- Ukitake: No...it's better not to use your Bankai with so many people around
I was disappointed with how the Vizard captains were shafted in TYBW, Kensei and Rose were just used as Renji plot devices even though they easily could have beaten Mask, and Shinji just got destroyed every time he was on screen.
Yep, and what especially sucks is that multiple captains are given multiple fights. I like Mayuri as much as the next guy but did he really need to fight Giselle AND Pernida? What annoys me is that Kubo set up the arc with loads of villains for the Gotei to fight and somehow still didn't get round to giving everyone their due.
when they talked about the sternritters having a weakness towards hollows i really thought they were going to give the vizards some spotlight since they are both shinigami and hollow. man, that arc almost left a bitter taste if it wasnt for the bankais of shunsui and zaraki.
I agree, the " Hope" ability was at its best when the bullshit played out and every is on edge, HOPING he won't do shit, what an exploit, I get why he needed to be the last alive, and omg if jubach got that power back.... Ugh!!
When Rukia became captain it was 10 years in the future and it was stated that you master your bankai after 10 years so perhaps Rukia had mastered her bankai by that time. And the same could go for Kenpachi. Perhaps he mastered his bankai so that he didn't destroy his body and could control himself while in that state.
@@yoishikakatshihe6402 Yes, you can. A lot of this is speculation to begin with. And that is using "what we know". We know it takes a certain amount of time to train and master your bankai. Obviously they will get better at it with time.

I mean I can't say you're wrong about Soifon but... She actually received a really powerful ability in her perfected Shunko which she can maintain as longs as she wants. And we have seen what Shunkos can do. She is pretty powerful. The issue is that she always has had really bad matchups.
She's practically useless against anyone with a decent level of skill or an AoE ability, even if they don't if she loses the advantage of surprise she's worthless. She should have been ranked way lower, only above and Iba.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 Only regarding her shikai, Mukyou Shunko effectively gives her a way to box and covers flaws that she otherwise would suffer from due to how situational her Zanpakuto is. She definitely doesnt deserve to be rated any lower than she is, she’s solid mid tier by the eos. Without Shunko i’d agree that she’d be lower but as she is now, she’s basically Yoruichi- Lite, she should be more than capable of holding her own comparatively to the captains ranked lower than her.

To be honest, I doubt they would have accepted. They both have lived lives in the 13 squads and out in the world of the living. They are probably best left to their own devices rather than under the orders of the captain commander. It means that if another threat like this were to occur, there are wildcards like Urahara, Yoruichi, Ichigo etc that can't be really predicted in terms of how they will respond and act. Which is best for those characters as they are all arguably extreme powerhouses.
@@justchillin806 I mean thats a fair point but also I feel the idea that the head captain didn't even bother to try to fill the positions of aizen, gin, & tosen left me dumbfounded. Also how many years was Lieutenant shiba position open for. Considering how much the head captain seems to be a stickler for order, balance, and rules its severely pisses me off being a bleach fan. Its not like their weren't lieutenants and 3rd seats without great potential and it would of made for better character development later on in the series with certain characters.
Kenpachi isn't the smartest, but he is intuitive. He figures things out, like when e fights Tousen. Maybe with reason he wouldn't understand Kyoraku's abilities but his strong sense of survival would allow him to find a way to cut Kyoraku
That's true, the Tousen example is a good one although I think Kyoraku's overall moveset is way trickier to deal with. But the essence is the same and you're right that Kenpachi figured it out...
Intuitive is a good word to use. He is reasonably smart though. He just has a certain mentality to which he sticks, as it should be apparent. Though Kenpachi is definitely the strongest. Perhaps you could argue at the time of fighting the miracle, maybe not quite ? But probably not. The miracle was hax as hell and Kenpachi was even more hax. Level of power that can likely overpower just about anything. Where strategy and tricks won't be that helpful. His character is literally made to be the strongest shinigami. If not then, then certainly later as he gets used to his power which he had been suppressing, let alone growing on top of that.
Lol the way kenpachi figure it out just by letting tosen cut him.. Im pretty sure tosen can kill him if he just stab him to the heart .. The same way shunsui will do it..
Shunsui has many different games so even if he adapts to one he can just switch them, Shunsui can develop games on the fly i mean they are millions of games created by Humans and he can use any of those, in the Novel he created a game use to get information out of people. the guy is over 1,000 years old the number of games he has is numerous Kenpachi is to straight foward and only a brute, this is his advantage and also his weakness, against Haxy ability he cant win, be it against Lille, Pernida, Askin, Gerard he cant do anything to win.
that was an illusion man, nobody actually hurt him besides Mask Ichigo via a Getsuga that barely gave him a scratch after catching him off guard after Yamamoto Hado 96 which also only gave him scratches
I enjoyed Shinji's shikai reveal, that was cool. Aizen didn't so much figure it out as have people under complete hypnosis the whole time. His bankai though looks disappointing. No other word for it. It just looks like a very bland ability with few directions for development.
It's honestly really hard to rank these captains for a couple of reasons. When it comes to the Vizards, it's hard for me to believe, but Kubo has never once had a single one fight at full power. Kensei and Rose go bankai, but never use their masks, and Shinji never goes bankai (in the manga anyway) and he never even wears his mask when in shikai. It's honestly kind of baffling how none of them ever fought at full strength. The other factor is the time skip itself. With the series ending right afterwards, and you mentioned it yourself, we don't know whether someone like Kenpachi has better control over his bankai or not, and if it even has any abilities. So for me personally, I don't know where I'd rank a majority of the captains.
I totally agree, it was tough to come up with. Like you said, the Vizards do nothing at all and then the new captains also haven't really done anything at all either. This is the problem with neglecting the majority of vice captains - when Kubo needed them to be promoted, it doesn't feel earned.

Wow, getting back into Bleach after years away and found this channel due to the Hell One Shot and going through some of the older videos. I think your closing statement said it best. He is the Captian commander for a reason. I believe Yamamoto talked previously about why he was the head of the Gotei 13 since the beginning because no other soul reaper born since was more powerful than him. Shunsui was the next in line in terms of strength and intelligence.
I feel like my biggest problem with the captains at the end of bleach is that alot of them were place holders (isane, iba), or should've been dead (rose, or kensei). When they did have characters who could've filled those spots you have love who could've come back as the captain of the 7th division. Shuhei who although isn't one of the biggest characters could've filled the spot for the 9th division. Renji would have been a good choice so would have ikkaku. The only one that I understand is making isane captain of the fourth division since there aren't a whole lot of captain level characters in the series that were healers.
Captains also have to be good leaders and Renji is more of a fighter than a leader. Maybe that is something that leads to promotion. The new captain commander being Shinsui has probably changed the rules and values other things more.
@@labcross9361 i can kind of see that but I feel that renji could rise up to be a leader if needed. However, that is arguable as we dont see him in many leadership roles in the series other than the general duties of being lieutenant. Ikkaku now that i think about it probably wouldn't have been a good candidate for captain he isn't much for leadership and he wanted to stay under kenpachi.
Kyoraku was my absolute fave from day 1. Seeing him flick Chad across the squad 8 barracks courtyard had me shook lol, we even share the same birthday! I remember back in 2006 when I was 12 randomly finding Bleach on TV about 10 episodes into the series and it was hook line and sinker from there for me. Great video!

Isane! We need more from her! She has the potential to show one of the most interesting identities as a Shinigami, being both a healer and an apprentice under somebody who she knew was The Kenpachi. I’d love to see her backstory as a vice captain. To see if she’s actually stronger than she lets on, but has to deal with internal conflicts. Maybe something like the heart of a healer being pushed to be a fighter, as the opposite of Unohana who is a killer who is doing everything she can to be a healer instead. We don’t even know what her Shikai does. It’s mind boggling.
same with iba i think they serve as joke characters or at least for her she is just the most proficient in healing now that the old one is dead and they overlook her combat skills
It's weird because on his own Shinji doesn't seem to be nowhere near the strongest. But if all the captains tried to fight him 11 to 1 his bankai would destroy them all. I like his bankai because it's really sadistic, defintely shining a light on Shinji's zanpaktou. Also we haven't seen a Visord mask/shikai shinji yet, probably would have been very powerful considering visord mask shinji non shikai dominated grimmjow. Good video my man.
I'm not quite sure how exactly Rukia lacks experience when she was literally fighting against the strongest antagonist groups of Bleach, defeated some of their high ranking members and lived to tell the tale. The other captains ( before the events of Bleach that is ) were fighting what exactly? Paperwork? Maybe some regular hollows here and there?

Yeah, Kenpachi has the most reiatsu, and the greatest purely physical capabilities. But his Kido is weak, as is his temper. So I agree with you! Power is not just physical ability. Kyoraku has it all though!
Kyoraku will be done if kenny used both hands, i mean he can scare yamamoto enough when he use both hands with just his sealed sword. The key is scared yamamoto, he's a fuckin captain commander for thousand yearsfor some reason.
Kyoraku told stark that toshiro might match his level in next 100 years. Also, toshiro's zanpakuto was the strongest ice type. It might get close to ryujinjakka in couple centuries..

I personally would rate Mayuri, especially after the Rukia rescue arc where he gets disabled by Ishida of all people, is one of the strongest. He either controls the fight completely or can retreat. I would even place him above Urahara, who might be smarter and more skilled in fighting, but Mayuri more than makes up for that with his unconcerned attitude towards research (Urahara has a conscience to sone degree, and will regret what he has to do, like trying to turn Rukia human to destroy the Hogyoku or sealing Aizen). Mayuri is savage in every aspect, surveillance and so on are simply tools for him. I would put my money on Mayuri in any fight. But Zaraki, Toshirou and Byakuya are cooler :). Mayuri has more fun fights in their conception, while those other three give us the magic sword fights we crave.

Prime Yamamoto was more ruthless and physically stronger than his older counterpart. Despite his age he is still physically strong as he manhandled wonderweiss with ease.
he is right, her mastery of shunko while great is still weaker than her bankai so her power is still the same, unlike Yorouchi who took her shunko to another tier and is the reason she never uses her Zanpakuto because her Shunko is superior. Soi Fon just has another way of fighting or more layers without having to use bankai but overall her power is still the same.
Still don't get how Renji isn't a captain at the end of TYBW.... He is easily stronger then half of captains, like Rose, Kensei, Soi fon.... I believe Renji couldn't beat only Kyoraku, Byakuya, Kenpachi, Toshio and probably Shinji if he uses a Bankai. I get the whole rivalry with Byakuya Kuchiki, and his laid back attitude towards authority, but I believe that just like Kyoraku, Renji could also be a good mature leader when he needs to be.

I think you are clearly underestimating Kenpachi's intelligence. He figured out how to defeat Tosen's Bankai despite not knowing anything about it in the Soul Society Arc. I would place Kenpachi above shunsui as one weakness of Shunsui's bankai is if you have more spirit pressure than shunsui you can outlast him, which kenpachi clearly does. One thing about Kenpachi that gets overlooked is even Aizen feared him. Thats why he baited kenpachi over into Hueco Mundo while Aizen went to Karakura town. I think Kenpachi is the strongest of all the captains.
Aizen was intelligent he even admitted in CFYOW that he purposefully set a way to send kenpachi away so he wouldn’t have to deal with him because he was a hinderance. I sure the same would have been for Unohana since only Yamamoto knew about Unohana past. If both of them had come to the fake Kura town. The fight would have changed drastically. This is the same Aizen that blitzed shinsui with ease

I think Rukia would have beaten Espada #9 if she’d fired her Soren Sokatsui at their head instead of the wall behind. It was really only the luck that they had Kaien’s shape, memory, and power that let them do so well against her.
i would think toshiro would be higher considering three captains cant contain Gerard Valkyrie, especially since Gerard is invincible until Yawe takes his power from him
Great review, I personally and surprisingly totally agree on every characters ranking on your list Mostly agree with the most powerful one doesn't always the strongest in terms of brute force or the smartest one, but rather the one who can totally control every aspects of being powerful like kyoraku (smart, cunning, tricky, powerful and unpredictable combined together)
He’s smart though in the data book his rating is 90 on the intellect category, only Aizen, Yamamoto, mayuri and Ukitake have 100 in that category. He’s very smart and has a great fighting IQ you can tell he’s very experienced he also fights on eco mode almost always doesn’t go all out and is very conservative with his reatsu.
@MrTommo2304 my interpretation of this is that before the time skip there was definitely a hierarchy with the captains. In terms of reiatsu the lower tier captains where relative in strength. The lower tier Captains had Captain level reiatsu and Captain level ability in at least two areas. Tosen and Byakuya were well rounded in all areas but in terms of reiastu were shown and stated respectively to be weaker than sealed Kenpachi. Soifon specialized in OTK and Speed, Sajin was OTK and Endurance. Mayuri was Intelligence. They depended more on their Zanpaktou to cover their weaknesses. Byakuya lacked defense and his bankai gave him a maneuverable offense and defense, Tosen depended on his spiritual awareness to perceive his surroundings so his bankai handicapped his opponents. Sajin and Soi Fon ran the risk of stalemating with opponents who are as skilled as they are so their bankai had tremendous offense. Mayuri could be overpowered if his calculations were wrong so his bankai was a last resort nuke the field with poison. It’s safe to classify these characters as Low Tier. Now Mid Tier Captain’s had notably stronger Reiastu and a better grasp on shinigami skills. Their Zanpaktou are powerful but are usually last resort or supplementary to their abilities with one exception. Gin and Toshiro are generally well rounded with Zanpaktou that don’t boost their power but can be used in any combat situation and in conjunction with others. Kenpachi lands on this tier because of his Reiastu and Offensive abilities more than making up for his lack of training in other areas plus he is shown to be stronger than low tier Captains like Tosen and Sajin, while having greater reiastu and resilience than Byakuya. Jushiro also seems to be on this tier as he has an advanced grasp on shinigami skills and a Zanpaktou that supplements his abilities rather than covers his weaknesses. His experience and intelligence elevate him from his low tier colleagues but his ailing body doesn’t allow him to keep up with his high tier colleagues. The high tier Captains have powerful reiastu speculated to be roughly twice as powerful than the average captain and have a mastery of shinigami skills. They have mastered their Zanpaktou abilities and rarely use anything more than their shikai if they have to use their Zanpaktou at all. Shunsui, Aizen, Yamamoto and Unahona fall in this category. Kisuke, Yoruichi and Isshin likely fall into this higher tier as well based on their showings against Aizen. The Vizards Rose, Kensei and Love fall into mid tier being well rounded with powerful reiastu and Zanpaktou that act more to supplement their skills. Shinji may fall into that higher tier he is shown to outlast his fellow Vizards on two different occasions and be at the very least more skilled than they are in Shunpo.
I'd argue Lisa is definitely captian level even before she became one. Her fighting hollowfied ichigo and holding her own against Halibel is something I don't think any lieutenant can replicate. In fact, all the Visord are captain level based on her feats. And Sui-Feng has a powerful Bankai, it's just the only characters she's used it on do not function like normal humans. Barragan and BG9 got their heads blown up yet they survived. Any other character would have died from it. Rukia is definitely stronger than Kensei and Rose, but her inexperience is noticeable. My personal ranking. 13. Isane. 12. Iba. 11. Lisa. 10. Rose. 9. Kensei. 8. Rukia. 7. Sui-Feng. 6. Byakuya. 5. Shinji. 4. Toshiro. 3. Mayuri. 2. Zaraki. 1. Shunsui.
You make a good point about both of Soi Fon's opponents being monstrous in nature, I didn't really think about that. Lisa holding her own against Harribel is something but it's also a 3 on 1 fight. Having said that, I agree she's captain-level material.
@@marionarda2790 They're two completely different opponents, and Mayuri had the literal perfect powerset to counteract Pernida. Plus, help from Nemu, and he barely won. Gerard's regen power is, on the other hand, a horrible matchup for the DPS-type characters like Kenpachi, Toshiro and Byakuya. Byakuya outranks Kurotsuchi in swordplay, reiatsu, kido, speed and raw strength, and his buff after the royal palace was so insane that the quincy mistook his new shikai for his old bankai. That's a ridiculous boost to someone already considered one of the top tier captains. Byakuya has way too much going for him.

it kinda makes sense that soifon would be the least effected by loosing her bankai, she even states herself that it clashes with her fighting style and that she hates using it, so she must have been focusing on fighting without it for the majority of her life, which is why the captains who heavily relied on their bankai were forced to change, while soifon didn't.

Kenpachi being the second strongest is not that controversial at least to me. Its a list about who is the strongest not who is the most powerful. Strength is just one aspect and Kenpachi does lack in other areas thus allowing someone that is more balanced, a bad match up, or just smarter then him to overtake him

Well my friend right now kenpachi is weaker than shunsui because of him not able to control his bankia and not even able to withstand his own strength. The reason I put kenpachi 2 also because kenpachi can’t even use his full strength in bankia from yet. But in about 10 years kenpachi will easily surpass shunsui when kenpachi learns the name and is able to control his bankia

It's not broken, it has terrible reach and relies far too much on the user being fast and durable enough to get close to the target. And even if she gets close enough there are ways to stop yourself from being pierced, for example, an Arrancar is strong enough Hierro wouldn't be affected, the same could be said for any shinigami with a ton more spiritual pressure than her as seen in the first Ichigo Kenpachi fight where Ichigo despite hitting Kenpachi full force couldn't even scratch him.
Her Shikai has a few other weaknesses, like how she is forced to give up the blades form so she has to be on the offensive as she won't be able to defend very well using a literal tooth pick.

It sounds like good hack to win against stronger enemies except it can be stopped by various methods. Like she herself stopped it using her reiatsu amp (shunko) fighting against her zanpaktou. Same goes for enemy with large difference in reiatsu i.e. Ichigo couldn't cut the skin of Kenpachi, so it's pretty useless against these kinds of enemies.

I mostly agree with this list other than I would definitely switch 4 and 5. I’d keep Mayuri as 5 because he IS smart, but he’s not Urahara or Aizen smart, and he’s honestly mid in combat strength among the captains. For Toshiro I would keep him 4th even though he’s comparable to Byakuya in combat strength, but like you said he doesn’t have the experience that most other captains have which is where Byakuya outdoes him. Now in most other instances Shunsui would definitely be number 1, however if it came down to a death fight between him and Kenpachi, then kenpachi would end up winning, although I do think it would take almost everything for him to do it. Remember Kenpachi was one of the 5 Special War Powers that Yhwach feared due to his immeasurable and unmatched strength, Yhwach wanted every one of them out of the way because even a single one of them he stated could turn the tide of the war. Because of all this my list would been the same except the top 5 would go 1.Kenpachi 2.Shunsui 3.Byakuya 4.Toshiro 5.Mayuri. Also I’d like to point out that people forget that Gerard wasn’t just a powerful Quincy he was literally the “heart” of the soul king, and was practically immortal. I truly believe Gerard was going to win if Yhwach hadn’t absorbed him, and I actually think people downplay just how powerful he was, but I digress. Other than that list was spot on

Duane Scott I actually think Toshiro beats Byakuya instantly if he uses Senbonsakura Kageyoshi . Toshiro can easily freeze Gerard’s bow byakuyas swords wouldn’t be a problem , that would then leave Byakuya open for attack and Toshiro has better physical feats than shikai kenpachi so he is definitely the better in a sword to sword fight

I basically agreed with all positions in your ranking but one: Byakuya in third. I swear I'm not fan based since he isn't my favorite captain but Unohana is. Try hearing me out:
Among the four captains that had their bankais stolen, he was the only one that had been trained by the Squad Zero, just like Ichigo, Renji and Rukia (and this is a huge power boost). In addition to this, he had less time than the other three to train since he was still recovering from his fight against Äs Nödt but he managed to get his act together and concluded his training in Soul King's Palace, what I personally think that his own zanpakuto had a little boost, but we couldn't see it aside from Ikka Senjinka.
After this, with his bankai, he could defeat four sternritters at the same time while the others (Renji, Rukia, Hisagi, Ikkaku and Ayasegawa) were fighting 1 vs 1, slaughtered Gerard before his vollständig and after its liberation, Byakuya was there holding on fighting, supporting and saving the others until the very end of the fight (after Toshiro was exhausted because of his aging and Kenpachi lost his arm because of his bankai's absurd power). Oh, another thing, after Gerard became that massive titan, Byakuya could still explode his head even after he was so boosted by his miracles (Ikka Senjinka is so OP).
I know that Kenpachi's power is INSANE right now, but, counting another skills like you did with the other captains, I personally think that Byakuya is still stronger than Kenpachi (not in pure strenght, but in versatility and strategies in battle).

Raphael Freitas finally someone who actually remembers what byakuya did, while people be overeating tosh’s bankai when it literally could only freeze him so byakuya could attack, he did destroy his Hoffnung but that didn’t matter since that’s not what makes Gerard strong

Man I could not agree more if you just look at what all he did effortless even off screen fighting for sternritter and then fighting the miracle he was the first to start fighting him and was still in the best fighting condition at the end of the fight unlike kenpachi or shiro.
What pissed me off the most bout the TYBW arc was the the Vizards being thrown around so weakly , some of the captains not having a definitive moment that makes people see why they were captains in the first place and of course the zero squad being done in offscreen like WTF this all because of lack of planning ahead in the story 🤦♂️

Those charts were read like this: every captain has it's own 600 potential maximum which is different from theoretical 600 of another one, and numbers show personal captain's potential fulfillment. Which meant Yama and Aizen were almost on their peak (with Yama being old thus losing endurance if I remember correctly)

I agree with almost everything in this video, with the exception of Soifon's position. I think Kensei and Rose are above her and we just never got to see them use their full potential, as in bankai with the hollow mask on. Rose would have defeated mask if he had just remained silent, and I can't see Soifon even getting close to that.

I think your list is solid, only change I would say is swapping 3 and 4. I think Mayuri is more formable. Byakuya is great as all around like you said.

If we do a Top 5 based on powers of the Captains , and how they would do against other characters , like a battle royal , I think the Top 5 would be :
5) Mayuri , he is like batman , he can pretty much beat all captains with preparation ahead of time, but if it's with only with what he have , I think he would come short against many of the other cast
4) Toshiro , his bankai is already strong , he has the petal flowers that can instantly kill you, and when his bankai is gone , he goes into his power up adult mode, that he can flash freeze enemies in seconds , and I am sure that power against other characters would be insanely overpower. It was only used against a "bullshit hope power", if his new power was used on another character , it would be in most cases instant death. If Toshiro keeps training , he will become like Yamamoto but ice version
3) Byakuya, I am sure he got an insane power up on his base form , and with his bankai he is broken. Having like almost inifinity of petals that are like swords around you , be insanely fast , be strong defensively and offensively, he is pretty much unotuchable.
2) Shunsui has a lot of tricks under his belt , an insane amount of experience , direct pupil from Yamamoto, and his power is super deadly.
1) Zaraki Kenpachi , he has the strongest spiritual energy from all the captains , he has been given the name Kenpachi , the guy with his freaky shikai has defeated many top tier characters that other captains required their bankai. He has insane battle reaction and analysis of the situation , he can figure out tricks or your "gimmick" power, and come on top with just raw strength. The guy cut a meteor into pieces with no EFFORT !
while i agree that kenpachi doesnt always show some crazy intelligence or strategy in his fighting, i dont think you can characterize him into those sorts of mindless only fighting, rushing into everything characters. He's definitely made the seem that way, but what really gains intelligence with him is his combat experience, he almost definitely has more than 99% of the characters. And that experience helps him incredibly against characters with tricky abilities. When he was fighting Gremmy, he instantly realized that Yachiro's bones were back to normal while Gremmy was distracted. He played it off like "well isn't it obvious, it can't last forever", but he acted so fast on it, like how he realized he could damage Gremmy if he slashed faster than Gremmy thought of healing. The point is hes quick to figure stuff out and when things don't work, which is perfect for smart or tricky enemies. The only thing i agree with is that he isn't patient, and can rush, but its so off the mark to say he lacks intelligence or missed out in crucial lessons.
so basically he's like Naruto. Not book smart or super intelligent like Tobirama or Shikamaru but when it comes to battle he figures shit out quickly

Shinji has some setup to be a super op hax character and then just got dropped. That time he evaded the millisecond length swing from Tozen was honestly amazing. His bankai too was hax and should’ve given him way more utility. Same as the other viz though😢

The thing about the Vizard Captains in the Arrancar arc is that they all ended up in bad matches, or not using Bankais. Kensei got bodied by a beast designed to kill Yamamoto. It’s only fair. Rose didn’t get to use his bankai against a resurrected Coyote. Of course one could say that shunsui fought stark by himself in his Shikai and was winning, but the vast difference in power between a man who was among the eldest captains and Rose is huge.

I have to disagree with you about Lisa! I think she was definitely Captain level. She was able to defend herself against a hollowfied bankai Ichigo. She was able to fight against Haribel, who is a high Captain level character, even though she had support. She was vice captain level 100 years ago, she surely has gotten stronger. I cant imagine any other vice captain fighting toe to toe with Haribel like that. Great videos btw!! Keep it up!

It's hard to rank Zaraki since he's still growing and getting stronger. The series ended without him mastering his bankai, but he was already too OP even at that stage.
Kyoraku is the trickiest of them all, even of he doesn'r have the strongest zanpakuto (still one of the strongest). He is the oldest and most experoenced of them all, with Yamamoto, Ukitake, Unohana dead. He is one of the smartest characters too. He will be tricky to fight, since you can't really beat him through brute force. As of the current state of Zaraki who can't control his bankai, Toshirou who is too young and inexperienced, and control of his bankai, and with Byakuya who's not really a good match in terms of Zanpakuto with Kyoraku, and Mayuri who doesnt have data on him, Kyorako deserves the postion as Captain Commander.
His zanpakuto is the scariest of them all. It abilities, its range. His intellect, his fighting style, his experience, and his reiatsu. He can slaughter them all.
Toshirou can still be strong, and has the greatest potential since he is the youngest.
Byakuya's development wasn't shown despite his level up from being healed in Soul King Palace.
Mayuri is also a difficult opponen, tricky like Kyoraku. Give him a little time and data and he's unbeatable.
The other captains will just brute force everything.
Kensei and Rose and Shinji were disappointing. Vizords, actually from older generation, yet still LAME.
Iba and Isane are weak and dont have enough feats. Chad, Ikaku, Renji will trash them.
Rukia, hmm, strong but still lacks experience compared to many.
Soi Fon is powerful but her bankai is lame, especially if she faces captain-level opponents.
Soi Fon really isn't powerful she just has a single gimmick.

I completely agree with your list. Shunsui is terrifying because even if you manage to push him into Bankai which even Stark could not do... I feel like the moment he goes Bankai and begins telling the story it's over. By the time someone grasps what is happening to them they're already dead pretty much. Great list!!!!

One thing that many people forget about Shunsui's battle with Starrk was that Shunsui WAS about to go Bankai when the Espada used Cero Metralleta. If Ukitake hadn't joined in the battle, then Shunsui would have used Bankai

I was disappointed with how the Vizard captains were shafted in TYBW, Kensei and Rose were just used as Renji plot devices even though they easily could have beaten Mask, and Shinji just got destroyed every time he was on screen.
Yep, and what especially sucks is that multiple captains are given multiple fights. I like Mayuri as much as the next guy but did he really need to fight Giselle AND Pernida? What annoys me is that Kubo set up the arc with loads of villains for the Gotei to fight and somehow still didn't get round to giving everyone their due.

when they talked about the sternritters having a weakness towards hollows i really thought they were going to give the vizards some spotlight since they are both shinigami and hollow. man, that arc almost left a bitter taste if it wasnt for the bankais of shunsui and zaraki.

When Rukia became captain it was 10 years in the future and it was stated that you master your bankai after 10 years so perhaps Rukia had mastered her bankai by that time. And the same could go for Kenpachi. Perhaps he mastered his bankai so that he didn't destroy his body and could control himself while in that state.
I doubt kenpachi doing bankia training though. He probably would learn to use it without the drawbacks in fights

I mean I can't say you're wrong about Soifon but... She actually received a really powerful ability in her perfected Shunko which she can maintain as longs as she wants. And we have seen what Shunkos can do. She is pretty powerful. The issue is that she always has had really bad matchups.

She's practically useless against anyone with a decent level of skill or an AoE ability, even if they don't if she loses the advantage of surprise she's worthless. She should have been ranked way lower, only above and Iba.

She definitely doesnt deserve to be rated any lower than she is, she’s solid mid tier by the eos. Without Shunko i’d agree that she’d be lower but as she is now, she’s basically Yoruichi- Lite, she should be more than capable of holding her own comparatively to the captains ranked lower than her.

I personally think that Urahara and Yoruichi should have been brought back.
To be honest, I doubt they would have accepted. They both have lived lives in the 13 squads and out in the world of the living. They are probably best left to their own devices rather than under the orders of the captain commander. It means that if another threat like this were to occur, there are wildcards like Urahara, Yoruichi, Ichigo etc that can't be really predicted in terms of how they will respond and act. Which is best for those characters as they are all arguably extreme powerhouses.
Atleast yoruichi is now the head of the Shihōins again, being the head of one of the noble clans is still cool tbh

Kenpachi isn't the smartest, but he is intuitive. He figures things out, like when e fights Tousen. Maybe with reason he wouldn't understand Kyoraku's abilities but his strong sense of survival would allow him to find a way to cut Kyoraku
That's true, the Tousen example is a good one although I think Kyoraku's overall moveset is way trickier to deal with. But the essence is the same and you're right that Kenpachi figured it out...
Intuitive is a good word to use.
He is reasonably smart though. He just has a certain mentality to which he sticks, as it should be apparent.
Though Kenpachi is definitely the strongest. Perhaps you could argue at the time of fighting the miracle, maybe not quite ? But probably not. The miracle was hax as hell and Kenpachi was even more hax. Level of power that can likely overpower just about anything. Where strategy and tricks won't be that helpful.
His character is literally made to be the strongest shinigami. If not then, then certainly later as he gets used to his power which he had been suppressing, let alone growing on top of that.

Shunsui has many different games so even if he adapts to one he can just switch them, Shunsui can develop games on the fly i mean they are millions of games created by Humans and he can use any of those, in the Novel he created a game use to get information out of people. the guy is over 1,000 years old the number of games he has is numerous
Kenpachi is to straight foward and only a brute, this is his advantage and also his weakness, against Haxy ability he cant win, be it against Lille, Pernida, Askin, Gerard he cant do anything to win.
Shinji was the first person to even damage Aizen. No one can take that from him
that was an illusion man, nobody actually hurt him besides Mask Ichigo via a Getsuga that barely gave him a scratch after catching him off guard after Yamamoto Hado 96 which also only gave him scratches
I enjoyed Shinji's shikai reveal, that was cool. Aizen didn't so much figure it out as have people under complete hypnosis the whole time. His bankai though looks disappointing. No other word for it. It just looks like a very bland ability with few directions for development.

The real issue is that the vizards are nerfed so much in the story, the side characters are generally sidelined in powers for shonen fight scenes
It's honestly really hard to rank these captains for a couple of reasons. When it comes to the Vizards, it's hard for me to believe, but Kubo has never once had a single one fight at full power. Kensei and Rose go bankai, but never use their masks, and Shinji never goes bankai (in the manga anyway) and he never even wears his mask when in shikai. It's honestly kind of baffling how none of them ever fought at full strength. The other factor is the time skip itself. With the series ending right afterwards, and you mentioned it yourself, we don't know whether someone like Kenpachi has better control over his bankai or not, and if it even has any abilities. So for me personally, I don't know where I'd rank a majority of the captains.
I totally agree, it was tough to come up with. Like you said, the Vizards do nothing at all and then the new captains also haven't really done anything at all either. This is the problem with neglecting the majority of vice captains - when Kubo needed them to be promoted, it doesn't feel earned.

Wow, getting back into Bleach after years away and found this channel due to the Hell One Shot and going through some of the older videos. Hearing Tommo say push to 1K subscribers when he is (at time of writing) at 77.6K is just incredible. I think your closing statement said it best. He is the Captian commander for a reason. I believe Yamamoto talked previously about why he was the head of the Gotei 13 since the beginning because no other soul reaper born since was more powerful than him. Shunsui was the next in line in terms of strength and intelligence.
he was also one of the first Capts. so makes since for it to be him. Plus Yama did think of him like a son sooooooo
Head Captain needs to be smart and command the entire Gotei 13, that's why balance is important.
Even if someone stronger did come along it's not like Yama would have had to give up his position anyway.
I feel like my biggest problem with the captains at the end of bleach is that alot of them were place holders (isane, iba), or should've been dead (rose, or kensei). When they did have characters who could've filled those spots you have love who could've come back as the captain of the 7th division. Shuhei who although isn't one of the biggest characters could've filled the spot for the 9th division. Renji would have been a good choice so would have ikkaku. The only one that I understand is making isane captain of the fourth division since there aren't a whole lot of captain level characters in the series that were healers.

Captains also have to be good leaders and Renji is more of a fighter than a leader. Maybe that is something that leads to promotion. The new captain commander being Shinsui has probably changed the rules and values other things more.
@@labcross9361 i can kind of see that but I feel that renji could rise up to be a leader if needed. However, that is arguable as we dont see him in many leadership roles in the series other than the general duties of being lieutenant. Ikkaku now that i think about it probably wouldn't have been a good candidate for captain he isn't much for leadership and he wanted to stay under kenpachi.
Shuhei should definitely be a captain with that new bankai.
I don't think a seated officer can really jump from one division to another tho, that would explain the reason those guys didn't become Captains
Kyoraku was my absolute fave from day 1. Seeing him flick Chad across the squad 8 barracks courtyard had me shook lol, we even share the same birthday! I remember back in 2006 when I was 12 randomly finding Bleach on TV about 10 episodes into the series and it was hook line and sinker from there for me. Great video!

Barragon was killed by his own Respira. Soi Fung injured him, but not fatally. When the term fatally injured is used, that means it was the cause of death...and Garragon tanked that hit
Isane! We need more from her! She has the potential to show one of the most interesting identities as a Shinigami, being both a healer and an apprentice under somebody who she knew was The Kenpachi.
I’d love to see her backstory as a vice captain. To see if she’s actually stronger than she lets on, but has to deal with internal conflicts. Maybe something like the heart of a healer being pushed to be a fighter, as the opposite of Unohana who is a killer who is doing everything she can to be a healer instead.
We don’t even know what her Shikai does. It’s mind boggling.

It's weird because on his own Shinji doesn't seem to be nowhere near the strongest. But if all the captains tried to fight him 11 to 1 his bankai would destroy them all. I like his bankai because it's really sadistic, defintely shining a light on Shinji's zanpaktou.
Also we haven't seen a Visord mask/shikai shinji yet, probably would have been very powerful considering visord mask shinji non shikai dominated grimmjow. Good video my man.
I'm not quite sure how exactly Rukia lacks experience when she was literally fighting against the strongest antagonist groups of Bleach, defeated some of their high ranking members and lived to tell the tale. The other captains ( before the events of Bleach that is ) were fighting what exactly? Paperwork? Maybe some regular hollows here and there?

I personally would rate Mayuri, especially after the Rukia rescue arc where he gets disabled by Ishida of all people, is one of the strongest. He either controls the fight completely or can retreat. I would even place him above Urahara, who might be smarter and more skilled in fighting, but Mayuri more than makes up for that with his unconcerned attitude towards research (Urahara has a conscience to sone degree, and will regret what he has to do, like trying to turn Rukia human to destroy the Hogyoku or sealing Aizen). Mayuri is savage in every aspect, surveillance and so on are simply tools for him. I would put my money on Mayuri in any fight. But Zaraki, Toshirou and Byakuya are cooler :). Mayuri has more fun fights in their conception, while those other three give us the magic sword fights we crave.
If old man Yamamoto was alive he'd still be the strongest. He is a monster. I can't imagine how powerful he was in his prime

he is right, her mastery of shunko while great is still weaker than her bankai so her power is still the same, unlike Yorouchi who took her shunko to another tier and is the reason she never uses her Zanpakuto because her Shunko is superior.
Soi Fon just has another way of fighting or more layers without having to use bankai but overall her power is still the same.

I believe Renji couldn't beat only Kyoraku, Byakuya, Kenpachi, Toshio and probably Shinji if he uses a Bankai.
I get the whole rivalry with Byakuya Kuchiki, and his laid back attitude towards authority, but I believe that just like Kyoraku, Renji could also be a good mature leader when he needs to be.

I think you are clearly underestimating Kenpachi's intelligence. He figured out how to defeat Tosen's Bankai despite not knowing anything about it in the Soul Society Arc. I would place Kenpachi above shunsui as one weakness of Shunsui's bankai is if you have more spirit pressure than shunsui you can outlast him, which kenpachi clearly does. One thing about Kenpachi that gets overlooked is even Aizen feared him. Thats why he baited kenpachi over into Hueco Mundo while Aizen went to Karakura town. I think Kenpachi is the strongest of all the captains.
Yeah I agree. Looking at Shunsui's abilities, there's not a whole lot he can do to Kenpachi with his monstrous strength and stamina.

Aizen was intelligent he even admitted in CFYOW that he purposefully set a way to send kenpachi away so he wouldn’t have to deal with him because he was a hinderance. I sure the same would have been for Unohana since only Yamamoto knew about Unohana past. If both of them had come to the fake Kura town. The fight would have changed drastically. This is the same Aizen that blitzed shinsui with ease

I think Rukia would have beaten Espada #9 if she’d fired her Soren Sokatsui at their head instead of the wall behind. It was really only the luck that they had Kaien’s shape, memory, and power that let them do so well against her.
i would think toshiro would be higher considering three captains cant contain Gerard Valkyrie, especially since Gerard is invincible until Yawe takes his power from him

Mostly agree with the most powerful one doesn't always the strongest in terms of brute force or the smartest one, but rather the one who can totally control every aspects of being powerful like kyoraku (smart, cunning, tricky, powerful and unpredictable combined together)
He’s smart though in the data book his rating is 90 on the intellect category, only Aizen, Yamamoto, mayuri and Ukitake have 100 in that category. He’s very smart and has a great fighting IQ you can tell he’s very experienced he also fights on eco mode almost always doesn’t go all out and is very conservative with his reatsu.
@MrTommo2304 my interpretation of this is that before the time skip there was definitely a hierarchy with the captains. In terms of reiatsu the lower tier captains where relative in strength. The lower tier Captains had Captain level reiatsu and Captain level ability in at least two areas. Tosen and Byakuya were well rounded in all areas but in terms of reiastu were shown and stated respectively to be weaker than sealed Kenpachi. Soifon specialized in OTK and Speed, Sajin was OTK and Endurance. Mayuri was Intelligence. They depended more on their Zanpaktou to cover their weaknesses. Byakuya lacked defense and his bankai gave him a maneuverable offense and defense, Tosen depended on his spiritual awareness to perceive his surroundings so his bankai handicapped his opponents. Sajin and Soi Fon ran the risk of stalemating with opponents who are as skilled as they are so their bankai had tremendous offense. Mayuri could be overpowered if his calculations were wrong so his bankai was a last resort nuke the field with poison. It’s safe to classify these characters as Low Tier. Now Mid Tier Captain’s had notably stronger Reiastu and a better grasp on shinigami skills. Their Zanpaktou are powerful but are usually last resort or supplementary to their abilities with one exception. Gin and Toshiro are generally well rounded with Zanpaktou that don’t boost their power but can be used in any combat situation and in conjunction with others. Kenpachi lands on this tier because of his Reiastu and Offensive abilities more than making up for his lack of training in other areas plus he is shown to be stronger than low tier Captains like Tosen and Sajin, while having greater reiastu and resilience than Byakuya. Jushiro also seems to be on this tier as he has an advanced grasp on shinigami skills and a Zanpaktou that supplements his abilities rather than covers his weaknesses. His experience and intelligence elevate him from his low tier colleagues but his ailing body doesn’t allow him to keep up with his high tier colleagues. The high tier Captains have powerful reiastu speculated to be roughly twice as powerful than the average captain and have a mastery of shinigami skills. They have mastered their Zanpaktou abilities and rarely use anything more than their shikai if they have to use their Zanpaktou at all. Shunsui, Aizen, Yamamoto and Unahona fall in this category. Kisuke, Yoruichi and Isshin likely fall into this higher tier as well based on their showings against Aizen. The Vizards Rose, Kensei and Love fall into mid tier being well rounded with powerful reiastu and Zanpaktou that act more to supplement their skills. Shinji may fall into that higher tier he is shown to outlast his fellow Vizards on two different occasions and be at the very least more skilled than they are in Shunpo.
I'd argue Lisa is definitely captian level even before she became one. Her fighting hollowfied ichigo and holding her own against Halibel is something I don't think any lieutenant can replicate. In fact, all the Visord are captain level based on her feats. And Sui-Feng has a powerful Bankai, it's just the only characters she's used it on do not function like normal humans. Barragan and BG9 got their heads blown up yet they survived. Any other character would have died from it. Rukia is definitely stronger than Kensei and Rose, but her inexperience is noticeable. My personal ranking.

You make a good point about both of Soi Fon's opponents being monstrous in nature, I didn't really think about that. Lisa holding her own against Harribel is something but it's also a 3 on 1 fight. Having said that, I agree she's captain-level material.
I'm curious why Byakuya is so low. He easily deserves the 3rd spot in your list IMO.

@@marionarda2790 They're two completely different opponents, and Mayuri had the literal perfect powerset to counteract Pernida. Plus, help from Nemu, and he barely won. Gerard's regen power is, on the other hand, a horrible matchup for the DPS-type characters like Kenpachi, Toshiro and Byakuya.
Byakuya outranks Kurotsuchi in swordplay, reiatsu, kido, speed and raw strength, and his buff after the royal palace was so insane that the quincy mistook his new shikai for his old bankai. That's a ridiculous boost to someone already considered one of the top tier captains.
Byakuya has way too much going for him.

it kinda makes sense that soifon would be the least effected by loosing her bankai, she even states herself that it clashes with her fighting style and that she hates using it, so she must have been focusing on fighting without it for the majority of her life, which is why the captains who heavily relied on their bankai were forced to change, while soifon didn't.
Honestly what you said about byakuya was facts he's so well rounded and could easily be placed in the top 3/5 in all categories
