Unohana is a sweetheart for sure, shes so caring and helpful. I quite like that she is the one to talk to Aizen when he reveals all, a calm discussion to balance the rage Histugaya had moments before.
I think one of the moments that always sticks with me about her is that she actually realized something was off when it came to Aizen's fake body, even if she wasn't sure what it was. It remains the only time someome under Aizen's zanpakuto to notice something wrong. Also it's proof that Aizen's hypnosis isn't perfect, just so good that it doesn't really matter.

She's someone to have at your side when battle begins and the wounded start showing up. Bonus points that she's kind to also help enemies and only aims to heal, setting up a safety zone.
Soifon in a way represents the darker shadow of Yoruichi. Both were trained to be assassins their entire lives yet Soifon really let herself get into the role to the point she's willing kill allies or let them die if they even slightly fail whereas Yoruichi is the opposite. Yoruichi never let her status and skills warp her to that point. One knows only how obey orders and end lives while the other does the right thing while wanting to see a better world beyond her old assassin's life.
Well, Yoruichi is the reason why Soifon is the way she is though. And I'm not talking about murderous side but unbalanced, angry side. Yoruichi isn't some paragon, if you pay attention you'll understand that she never considers feelings of others when she does things. She will do things just to get a reaction out of someone without thinking how it might affect them and what exactly causes them to react that way. Yoruichi is of course doing the right thing, but when it comes to personal interactions she's just as heartless, if not more since she has a more approachable personality, that misguides you

4:45 Isn’t it also SO genius that Aizen recruits Tousen, because if he didn’t Tousen is the ONE CAPTAIN who is totally immune to Aizen’s hypnosis since he can’t see it. And being able to see the shikai release at least once is a requirement to have the hypnosis work.
It’s interesting to see the perspective of a Captain ranking from an SS Arc perspective. Kubo has so many side characters that have so much depth and story that he explores and its great. Honestly at the end of the series (or hell even after each arc) I’d love to see this get updated
This is almost a initiation ritual for a Bleach youtuber to make a Captain ranking video, either by fav or power (though that's a very much a having finished series thing since you need certain context info to get accurate rankings). Though across so many people's video have Kenny and Mayuri up high due to their strong impressions.
Yamamoto is personally in my top five mainly because of the fact that he does get a lot more depth and for what he represents in the story. Sui Feng is also really high on my personal list mainly because her story is a lot more personal which I find pretty ironic considering the fact that she's a very hard to like character and that's the intention but to me her being so sheltered and closed off around other people and very abrasive and very hard stuck to the rules is a result of how she feels deeply betrayed by someone who she was very close to being Yoruichi so I can't help but appreciate her character for those reasons. Solid ranking. I knew Mayuri was gonna be either really low or really high on the list. Kenny NEVER disappoints. Personally I would have put Hitsugaya lower and Byakuya maybe a little higher. Having mayuri and zarakif of kenpachi as top 2 is highly understandable. These two are really characters I would look forward to seeing knowing that idk what they would accomplish next
my list after seeing all of bleach 1. tbh - it's gonna be a very different story for me ranking the soul society 13 squad captains because there's so much you get to know about some of these characters that's just near impossible to ignore when ranking them imo can't wait to see how this list changes with time :D so please do another one later down the line! About Yamamoto. He wasn't wrong during Soul Society though, he was lied to. If for example, it wasn't all Aizen plot, I'd say I'm siding with laws side. He is the head of military organization, no matter if they're his kids any high ranking officer of this caliber going south should be eliminated not reasoned with. With military organizations that are responsible for survival of the universe you can't just go and have your little personal justice acts. If you betrayed all of this because your personal morale how can anyone count on you to not betray them again?

I lost my shit when I saw Yamamoto at 13 💀💀💀💀 but i can totally understand Yama didn't do shit in the SS arc apart from confrontation with Ukitake and Shunsui
10:08 Zaraki is a beast, and stays that way for whole series... but that doesn't mean we don't see development of him- in SS we see him mainly as beserker, who loves to fight... you shall see other sides of Zaraki personality, but all sum up to the point where he is a great warrior and commander(!)... lots of these captains get development in future arcs... we learn about their Shikai (like Kyoraku's and Ukitake's)/Bankai (almost every single captain is forced by Kubo, to show theirs) abilities... few of them have interesting backstories, as well :) Final though - don't underestimate Yamamoto... once old man gets into business, you'll know things are serious... he's one of my favorite Bleach characters- he doesn't show up to often and has more to do in anime fillers, than in manga, but whenever he shows up, it's EPIC
The thing about Old Man Yama is that he's so old and experienced that he can't act on his feelings. He's seen too much, made so many mistakes, corrected so many other mistakes, and probably killed so many old friends and students for justice that he's locked in to The Law. The man could have--and probably wanted to--stop the execution and defy Central 46 the whole time, but his Code and Oath held him to it. He's kinda like Abraham in the Bible. God tells him to kill his son, he'll do it, but the second God says "Whoa! Whoa! Okay! Don't do that!" he'll stop. He's very much a "if I act on my emotions and defy the law, my subordinates will, too" guy.
7:48 some time ago one of popular TH-camrs made a popularity contest... Aizen scored #2, beating Main Character Ichigo Kurosaki, who ended on #3 spot ;) So yes, Aizen is definately well written villain :)
you should remember that these characters are part of what is essentially a military organization... so yamamoto was actually pretty soft on the ones that went against their orders and soi fon is actually spot on in her actions taken.
Yamamoto did say something to the effect of "fuck You, you had your time to speak rather than commiting all the crimes you did" (which at that point is like, going against central... 46? 56? Breaking up a prisoner with such execution priority, breaking the sacred zampakto they used for executions and in general breaking the law as captains) Granted, I don't think he would have relented if they approached him before
Looking at your top 1 and 2 I can say your heart is in the right place. ❤ One fun fact: Kubo once said the character he liked drawing the most is Mayuri. Expect very interesting moments with him 😉

Really like content like this, especially as you're still going through the story! It adds a really unique perspective to the discussion. Not only will this list change, but it will (slight spoiler) get longer. Imo my favorite captain is shunsui because of his moralities (which you'll learn more of)and art style. His powers are also one of the most unique and they best represent a persons soul in my opinion
Gin was like my 2nd aizen my favourite and kenpachi my 3rd shunsui 4th and either yammato or komura 5th at this point in the story but if we dont count aizen mayuri is my favourite
Understandable ranking from the perspective of only knowing the soulsoviety arc. My ranking: 1. Toshiro 2. Zaraki 3. Aizen 4. Tosen 5. Komamura 6. Mayuri 7. Shunsui 8. Yamamoto 9. Byakuya 10. Unohana 11. Gin 12. Ukitake 13. Soi Fon Tbh I Iike all of them except Soi Fon, who is just ok.
Shunsui only Number 6 is insane. Hope you pay attention to shunsui, he is either the best written character in the series or second, thing With him is that he is the most subtle character in the series by far
Based top 3. In my case,swap 1st and 3rd, and would be the same. Toshiro Hitsugaya with Hyozimaru as his Zanpatou is my favorite Captain at this point in the series. The cool head, calm and collected demeanor, taking none of Aizen's shit at the end and going STRAIGHT to his Bankai, which has an awesome design. Kurotsuchi, everything you said. Sadly Kenny as a result of my love for Ice and Water based powers and circumstances winds up at number 3. Although it is nearly a 3 way tie. Really think you should do another ranking before the end. Each arc would be a good idea.

You probably will keep Zaraki as the top 1. Kubo definitely didn't ruin him. All the setup that was made for him since his first appearance paid off in the end.

Yamamoto is definitely among my least liked Captains. He's too rigid and unforgiving. I like his powers and narrative purpose more than I like him as a person. Especially if we're just talking SS at this point.
Yamamoto is extremely cool (ironic for someome with fire powers) and badass. But that's about the only thing he has going for him. That said, I do like how his extremely rigid, stubborn and outdated views function are used in the story to define and represent the Soul Society's nature and its faults, and how he serves as a foil to the progressiveness mainly brought about by Ichigo.

About Yamamoto. He wasn't wrong during Soul Society though, he was lied to. If for example, it wasn't all Aizen plot, I'd say I'm siding with laws side. He is the head of military organization, no matter if they're his kids any high ranking officer of this caliber going south should be eliminated not reasoned with. With military organizations that are responsible for survival of the universe you can't just go and have your little personal justice acts. If you betrayed all of this because your personal morale how can anyone count on you to not betray them again?

I lost my shit when I saw Yamamoto at 13 💀💀💀💀 but i can totally understand Yama didn't do shit in the SS arc apart from confrontation with Ukitake and Shunsui
10:08 Zaraki is a beast, and stays that way for whole series... but that doesn't mean we don't see development of him- in SS we see him mainly as beserker, who loves to fight... you shall see other sides of Zaraki personality, but all sum up to the point where he is a great warrior and commander(!)... lots of these captains get development in future arcs... we learn about their Shikai (like Kyoraku's and Ukitake's)/Bankai (almost every single captain is forced by Kubo, to show theirs) abilities... few of them have interesting backstories, as well :)
Final though - don't underestimate Yamamoto... once old man gets into business, you'll know things are serious... he's one of my favorite Bleach characters- he doesn't show up to often and has more to do in anime fillers, than in manga, but whenever he shows up, it's EPIC
The thing about Old Man Yama is that he's so old and experienced that he can't act on his feelings. He's seen too much, made so many mistakes, corrected so many other mistakes, and probably killed so many old friends and students for justice that he's locked in to The Law. The man could have--and probably wanted to--stop the execution and defy Central 46 the whole time, but his Code and Oath held him to it.
He's kinda like Abraham in the Bible. God tells him to kill his son, he'll do it, but the second God says "Whoa! Whoa! Okay! Don't do that!" he'll stop.
He's very much a "if I act on my emotions and defy the law, my subordinates will, too" guy.
7:48 some time ago one of popular TH-camrs made a popularity contest... Aizen scored #2, beating Main Character Ichigo Kurosaki, who ended on #3 spot ;)
So yes, Aizen is definately well written villain :)

you should remember that these characters are part of what is essentially a military organization... so yamamoto was actually pretty soft on the ones that went against their orders and soi fon is actually spot on in her actions taken.
Yeah Kenpachi and Mayuri are staying in that top 2 spot Kubo did their characters so much justice
Yamamoto did say something to the effect of "fuck You, you had your time to speak rather than commiting all the crimes you did" (which at that point is like, going against central... 46? 56? Breaking up a prisoner with such execution priority, breaking the sacred zampakto they used for executions and in general breaking the law as captains)
Granted, I don't think he would have relented if they approached him before
Unohana is way too sweet and pure 🥺 she deserves higher

Not only will this list change, but it will (slight spoiler) get longer. Imo my favorite captain is shunsui because of his moralities (which you'll learn more of)and art style. His powers are also one of the most unique and they best represent a persons soul in my opinion

Shunsui only Number 6 is insane. Hope you pay attention to shunsui, he is either the best written character in the series or second, thing With him is that he is the most subtle character in the series by far

In my case,swap 1st and 3rd, and would be the same. Toshiro Hitsugaya with Hyozimaru as his Zanpatou is my favorite Captain at this point in the series. The cool head, calm and collected demeanor, taking none of Aizen's shit at the end and going STRAIGHT to his Bankai, which has an awesome design.

Yamamoto is definitely among my least liked Captains. He's too rigid and unforgiving. I like his powers and narrative purpose more than I like him as a person. Especially if we're just talking SS at this point.
Yamamoto is extremely cool (ironic for someome with fire powers) and badass. But that's about the only thing he has going for him.
That said, I do like how his extremely rigid, stubborn and outdated views function are used in the story to define and represent the Soul Society's nature and its faults, and how he serves as a foil to the progressiveness mainly brought about by Ichigo.
