The fact that Markiplier had the opportunity to make a movie, and he decided to make one not based on his own series ([Blank] With Markiplier, Damien, etc.), but to instead make one for this small indie horror game he really liked. I really, really admire that.

I think it's worth pointing out that Markiplier has seen success in the past with other projects like Who Killed Markiplier, Heist with Markiplier, and In Space with Markiplier. Though not strictly "films," they do show that Mark has been learning skills necessary in the film industry and has built up a reputation concerning narrative based stories (some with horror elements). And his internship with Corridor Crew equipped Markiplier with better insight into visual effects.
Also film adaptation tend to be better off, regardless of source material, if the original creator of the source material is involved.

    • @weirdmarketingtales

the original creator doesn't have to be involved for and adaptation to be good, you just have to respect the source material which unfortunately 90% or Hollywood people believe is beneath them.
The Witcher series as an example was an alright adaptation because of the people that fought to keep things as close to the games/books as possible, which I believe was mostly just Henry Cavil and possibly some crew members.

I really hope Iron Lung succeeds, not just for Mark's sake but because it might make the studios wake up and get the hell out of their own way. You hear so many stories about promising properties and ideas that flop because they went in the corporate machine and got spat out as something wholly different.
But if they realize that they can fund or just promote independent creators without having a billion dollar budget to recoup, we might get some original content on the big screens instead cut and paste copies of what did well.

The story behind the film Skinamarink is defo part of this wave. The director, Kyle Edward Ball, has been making horror shorts on TH-cam for ages, then he scraped together a budget of $15,000 to make a film that got picked up by Shudder and grossed $2.1 million. All while having unconventional practices up to the ears and being quite polarising to viewers. I see it as more of an experience than a traditional horror flick. The new wave of horror is upon us and I couldn't be more excited.

Papa Mark at it again, breaking the walls down and paving that path. I'm so happy and excited for him and really just everyone involved. I have watched his channel for many years, in fact, I didn't even have internet when I first started watching his channel back in 2012. I had to save his videos for later, so I could watch them at a friend's house. His videos were sometimes the only thing that'd help me get to sleep. Still are, in fact. After 10 years.
I can say for certain that Mark doesn't do things by half when he really is invested into something. If it's charity, if it's playing a video game, if it's making a project come to life, supporting his friends, whatever it is, once he's decided to do it...there is very little that will stand in his way. He is very likely THE most hardworking person I've ever known. He also doesn't like when people bully someone on youtube, known to come to their defense and cause a stir until things get done. I can't wait for the world to get but a taste of his masterpiece. It's gonna be amazing.

With this project he's going small, doing it right, and adapting a strong, proven story in a way that outsiders will take seriously.

Like obviously he has a sound designer, the dev was involved every step of the way, and he had camera people etc. but those people are there bc he knows them and trusts them to help him creative something HE loves. I feel Iron Lung is a passion project more than anything, and he's the director, main star and post production. He doesn't have to pair with companies to publish the movie, he can do it himself because he has that reach.

I really do hope Iron Lung changes the culture around movies! I feel with Hollywood people have lost a lot of respect (bad adaptions, cash grabs, using big actors despite the film itself, etc.). It's become more of an industry than a heartfelt piece of art and that saddens me. I want movies with history! I want movies that can connect to other works and it doesn't feel like an afterthought or a misconstrued version of it. I wasn't ever really, really into FNAF but I hope that directors treat it with the respect and attention it deserves. I want it to be a heartfelt medium where directors can connect with the original creators and make something bigger than both of them!

Unpopular opinion. Resident Evil, Welcome to Racoon City was an AMAZING Resident Evil movie adaptation. People are just mad at Leon's cast and role in the movie but regardless, it played out Resident Evil 1 and 2 pretty well at the same time WHILE making it extremely suspensful.

Im so looking forward to Mark’s movie. I think it’s important to note that, unlike the mainstream movie industry projects that get shredded by executives for profit, Markiplier’s work has total freedom of creativity. Think about it, Mark works directly with the developer, he is a huge fan of the original game, he played Iron Lung multiple times, including with updates. You know how people say that fanfiction is often better written and more enjoyable than traditionally released media? It’s because the former is a passion project. The drive is not the profits, it’s one’s love and dedication to the source material. Mark wants this movie to be good, he wants to do justice to the game he loves. I trust him to listen, follow, *savor* the ideas and directions of the IL developer because Mark is a *fan*
Meanwhile, many horror games film adaptations are total flops cause 1) they are sanitized to be palatable to broader audience 2) OG creators do not usually have this free of an access to the project 3) the people working on these movies (and I mean the studios) are nowhere nearly this invested in the source material
Regardless of the outcomes, this is a massive step forward for Mark and a great learning experience

With what Mark has been doing and going through, i hope it changes how everyone interacts with each other. From making executive decisions to further profits, to actually caring about the people working on it, how they want it to be.
I know this was already said, but i just felt like saying it myself.

I’ve seen him play the video game “Iron Lung” but I just don’t understand why he’s deathly afraid of water and did the movie (I hope when the movie comes out it gets a lot of good reviews and not mean/bad ones). Good luck on the project/process of the movie, “Giggliplier!!!”🎮😺😼🙀🧔🏻🎥🍿

Parallels exist to the main series, but not exact to satisfy the hardcore fans that'll have fun finding the parallels and references while also still keeping their arms open for newcomers to the series and making it easily digestible and enjoyable without complicating and confusing the newcomers while still giving long time fans something new to chew on.

The only person on TH-cam I can think of that is doing things on the same scale as this is Alan Becker. He may not have created a film that’s gotten released to real cinemas, but he’s made a hell of a legacy with just stick figures and minecraft. Those vids of his have gotten insane amounts of views and with Animation vs Minecraft season 3 he’s created a plot that is on the same level as avengers endgame. The guy is insanely talented, he’s gone from early 2000s animations about stick figures just for shits and giggles and now, Jesus Christ, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up creating a project with TH-cam themselves

  • @EricLefebvrePhotography
    @EricLefebvrePhotography ปีที่แล้ว +3

There are a lot of TH-camrs that I'm flabergasted haven't been able to get a feature out.
Corridor Crew, Rocket Jump film School (they just gave up), Film Riot / Triune Digital ... those 3 are just primed for creating feature lenght content.
I don't understand how Ryan Conolley hasn't gotten a feature yet.
There are a few other that could get there, Cinecom and Andyax just to name a few more.
Hey! If Red Letter Media can magae to publish a feature (sure no theatrical release) anyone can.
I sort of miss the days of direct to Video od DVD. Sure a lot of crap was put out like Samurai Cop, Curse of the Wolf, Troll 2, Birdemic ... and so on but there were some gems in there as well that were created outside of the movie theatre system ... for a brilliant short slice of time if you were plucky and had a vision you could sell your movie.
We do have services like Amazon Direct ... if they'll publish Diamond Cobra vs the White Fox they'll publish pretty much anything but it's not quite what we need yet.
Anyway ... i'll get off my soapbox.

What most excites me about the film as far as the game's lore goes is the fact Mark's working with the game developer so they could expand the lore in the film and it would be canonical with the game if the developer wanted that. That way even if you just like the game for it's unique and fascinating lore you'd have a really good reason to see the film anyway!
