    I realize I called Lover's Leap the Chapel. Oops. The chapel is the cool pine tree on the rock I walk by.

    A kazoo on a hike?! GENIUS!!! I've brought a jaw harp before, but that requires two hands.

    Can't believe that is Lake Superior! Looks like the ocean. I'm used to seeing it from Duluth and definitely not the same. Looks like such a fun group to backpack with.

    Great job with your video! I wanted to meet up with you guys at Au Sable, but all of the campsites in the park were reserved the week before. That's one reason why we ended up doing a trip in the Porkies.

    Your video brought back memories of my Pictured Rocks thru hike in September of 2020. Beautiful hiking weather, beautiful scenery with no bugs. It is was a great vacation.

    What great weather you had! I’ve been up on that trail twice this month and got caught in a thunderstorm and then freezing rain. Great video.

    You guys got a hike planned for the 4th of July weekend+?
    Challenge is the Dam-2-Dam. Croton to Hodenpyl Dam, 133 miles of NCT through the Manistee NF.
    Five marathon days stacked, 26.4 miles per day (smidge longer than a marathon), all dispersed camping - you might not see anyone on trail until the last day, even over a holiday weekend.
    July 1-5 or July 3-7.
    Nobody has filmed this segment end to end. Not as epic as Pictured Rocks in terms of views, but epic in its own right, for sure.

    What was the date that you were at Pictured Rocks? Curious because I am going to Grand Island this coming week and interested in conditions.

    What a beautiful place. Is early spring the best time to hike here before the mosquitos and flys?

    • @MidwestBackpacker
      @MidwestBackpacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never been there in the summer. Bugs probably wouldn't be too bad right by the lake, but campsite are off the lake and you could have bugs. I think the biggest issue would be a lot of people in the summer.

      Once it gets warm and the stable and black flies come out it is miserable! The flies are the worst along the lakeshore but will follow you 1/4 mile inland. Spring and fall are the best times to visit to avoid that.

      Fall is the best time to avoid the bugs up in this part of the UP, early to mid October depending on the weather (fall can be rainy and Mid October is risky for cold weather).
