    Sitting at my desk on a teacher "work day" I needed a break for lunch, so I grabbed lunch and came back to watch your latest video. Thanks for the smiles and the information as this is one we have not yet visited. Blessings to your kids as school resumes--or at least it kind of is for me and for my college children.

      Hey Rich, thanks so much! Absolutely love Michigan - wife is partial as she's from Muskegon until we married and I swept her off to NJ (I actually grew up in the Chicago area). Looking to get Indiana Dunes up this week and Sleeping Bear Dunes the week after. Take care and if I weren't an Illini fan I'd say, "Go Blue!"

    As a lifelong Michigander, I have yet to get to Pictured Rocks because I take it for granted it is in my “backyard”. I am glad you and your family were able to enjoy the splendor that is Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For a return trip, I would suggest taking a look at several of Michigan’s State Parks, such as Taqhuamenon Falls and the Lake of the Clouds in Western UP in the Porcupine Mountains. Happy Travels!

    We were there in August, beautiful! We drove to Michigan from Mississippi two summers in a row. The first summer, concentrated on the LP; Holland, Saugatuck, Petoskey, and Macinaw Island, the second summer, hit the UP, Kayaked the cliffs with same outfitter you used, ate at Muldoon’s as well, then on to Bayfield, WI to tour The Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. Great trips. Enjoyed your video!

      So neat to hear, Mike! My wife is from MI (near Holland) and we really enjoy our time there as well. Hope to (finally) hit Isle Royale in 2021 with a trip to Apostle Islands too. Take care and thanks for the comment!

    I would add the glass bottom boat tours to this list. The water is so clear you can see everything, with so many ship wrecks there is always something to look at. We also got to see, some of the cliffs, the Grand Island lighthouse and bald eagles.

    Another fun and quality video!! Just a little more on the pasties. My home town of Butte Montana is the pasty Mecca. My mom’s family is from Cornwall England, the home of the pasty. They were also dubbed a letter from home. When the tin miners would take them from their lunch boxes they could hold them with one hand and continue working. Next pasty you have.. got from the oven covered in brown gravy and ample amounts of black pepper!! When cold, absolutely with ketchup! Keep the videos coming!!

    My best friend and I went to pictured rocks in July of 2021. We stayed 3-4 days and hit as many waterfalls as we could. I am not in the best shape, so that exursion to chapel falls/lbeach didnt make our list. However, we did the boat ride and it was a stellar view. Wagner falls is among my favorite of the waterfalls. Not the highest, biggest, or widest in the area, but it was probably the most peaceful one. Something about it just gentley says "scerenity. There was also a tiny one along the roadside across from a beach. it trickled over a rock formation and we stood under it and splashed each other like spastic children! Laughing whitefish falls was the tallest we saw and it was pretty impressive. and of course we saw Miners Falls and Au Train Falls. My favorite ones are actually the waterfalls I can "get into" Horseshoe falls is a privately run attraction, but you can buy a day pass at the gift shop for like 10bucks or so. Defniately worth it. They do a fabulous job of keeping the area neat and clean yet still very wild with lovely gardens and signs identifying many of the trees and vegetation. Oh and hunt for the garden Gnomes! :)

    That beach below the Lake Superior Overlook was our single favorite spot on our recent trip. We ended up there on four separate occasions over the two and a half days we were in the area. Great place for playing in the water, just walking up and down the beach, and especially seeking out colored rocks . And the best part was that there was never more than a handful of other people there. Not sure why it wasn't more populated, unless it's just because the sign at the parking area and the label on the park map just notes the overlook without mentioning the beach. Whatever, it was awesome.
    Never did manage to try any pasties, though!

    • @AmericasParks
      @AmericasParks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neat, Rick! Yeah, think your assumption is correct. Not an appealing name, meaning few stop and even less make the trek to the water. And for the pasties - good, but one and done for me.

    Really great video of this beautiful park. It really shows that the park has much more to offer than its iconic colored cliffs. Makes me want to stuff the family in car and head there now and we just finished a four day trip to Jefferson National Forest in SW Virginia. If you ever find yourself in the area, we did Cascade Falls, Devil’s Bathtub, and the Great Channels. Very highly recommended. Enjoyed the bloopers at the end too.

      Americas Parks Yes, can definitely be tough sometimes but even the frustrations and mishaps that occur along the way can be fun memories to reflect back upon or offer good teaching moments. Really a very beautiful area but this forest has districts that are very segmented and sprawled out. Takes some effort to get to main attractions. Anyways, I know NPS sites are your focus so if you make it to Cumberland Gap NHS or Booker T. Washington NM then you would be in pretty close proximity.
