Got a canon pg 445 which initially was bone dry. Put thinners & methylated spirit in it.. hit the filter with a strong jet of water from my garden hose.. it has come back to life but still chops my prints with lines exactly 1cm apart.. will try boiling.. your method inspired me.
I bought a bunch of cartridges that were on clearance sale. I bought them since their cost was about 1/8th of the cost of the HP cartridges. But they turned out to be old and 100% bone dry. All typical methods to get them working, of course therefore failed. So I injected into two of them some paint thinner that I had hanging around. They came back to life. The rest I will just leave as bone dry until I need them in the future.
I did the same thing with distilled water. I've heard Ink is made from something like radiator coolant or dot 3 brake fluid (di-ethylene glycol), distilled water and dye and sometimes pigment. I had a brand new dry color one. Inject distilled water let it sit a day or two. Then stick in a shallow dish of distilled. If the ink isn't pouring out, suck up the watered ink into a syringe and then pull the plunger out so the ink wanders back in on its own or just let it sit there stuck in the cart until the foamy bubbles pop and then try reinjecting it SLOWLY. (This is really messy don't get the colors mixed up--cover the other holes, take care, etc.). Do this one or twice or as necessary per color. You will see the color you just churned up flowing out of the bottom of the cart. Yay! If the carts are a little watery and you keep bulk ink around remove some and add some to adjust the thickness. If you just want the cart to work and you don't mind it a little blurry, just go with it. Need the right viscosity for photos though.
Thanks for this, you know I buy empty Canon CL-211XL's ll the time and rarely does anyone ever cover up the print head after they are done with it leading it to clog. So it really becomes a hit and miss. I never actually boiled a cartridge before because was told to never do this, but to come close. But I got really sick of it and boiled two of them in a row and they worked fine. Thanks.
Thanks so much... I have tried several means and only yours is perfect and one time. I actually boiled it for 4 minutes and seem like the day I bought it be travel for 4months without use. God bless you
It blew me away! I thought the cartridge would blow or melt and wondered if micro particles got inside it earlier when you used the basket to boil it in. Of course, I will use the cleaning kit with the needle to pump it in before trying your method. Thanks for sharing this amazing method though.
Modern day inkjet printers drive me crazy. These cartridges are definately engineered to have a very short life once they are opened. Yet we pay so much for so little ink and tiny cartridges. I miss the days of huge cartridges that lasted forever. Guess that's why everyone's switching to lazer printers.
Thank you soooo much! OK, all of that is amazing! But next time, I will buy a new cartridge or an empty one on ebay because that mess after boiling was not worth it to me!!!
Good job. Only thingi have to say is if your cleaning solution contains amonia or some thing similiar then you would need to watch out for noxious gases when boiling it like that! You would need to wear a gas mask. Other concern, is the plastics used might get warped etc etc.
Love this video. Look forward to trying your methods and looking at your website. Is it true that it is best to leave your printer on all the time? I read that each time you turn a printer on and it does all that chuntering back and forth it is squirting some ink out to clean the jets before printing commences and the cost of the electricity in leaving it on and avoiding this process is less than the cost of ink.
can this be done on a canon pg-810 does print but a with single line only? i tried blowing from the top hole and some bubbles came out with ink. i did not push through all the way cause i was afraid it will damage it more. but seeing this video gave me hope and more idea. thanks. hope u can help me. by the way i am using ciss.
I didn't go as far as placing the cartridge IN boiling water instead I poured boiling water into a ceramic bowl that I had placed the cartridge into letting the water surround it with the hopes of it unclogging. Needless to say I'll be trying this method next. Lol
How come the water does not short out the electronics? (. . . and then the cartridge is not longer recognized by the printer. . .) . Every time I touch the electronic contacts with wet fingers (by accident) I end up with an unrecognizeable cartridge. I've been messing with HPs, not Cannons. Still, thanks for the craziness. It's good to know what is possible. I always thought that if a cartridge was "burned" because it ran dry, the nozzle would be ruined, or melted down somehow. This makes me believe that persistence and extreme methods can be rewarding and there is just a bit of dried hard ink between you and victory.
If it is an Epson, it may short the circuit. For some reason, the Canon is just immune to this. As long as you wipe the contact points dry, it will happily take whatever abuse you throw to it.
There are two kinds of burn out. Think about a kettle boiling water: if the kettle is dry, then you will burn out the pot. Also, there will be mineral deposits in the kittle. If you have inks that not desalinated, then the mineral will kill the printhead eventually.
@@BCHTechnologies I have a steamer and I only use distilled water with it, so I keep distilled around. Its just not worth it to clean off mineral deposits--WAY too much trouble and some stuff just gets permanently damaged and crusted, so I HAVE been thinking about using distilled water to water down ink or flush cartridges. I've been warned that old ink gets fungus in it, but now I think it might just be drying out and getting too thick. I am presently in the process of trying to flush an old tricolor from a freebie printer and after injecting water the other day, I decided to pull out what is in there with a syringe and it was the sludgiest ink I've ever seen. . . this was after I put water in there a day or two before. Its one of those ridiculous HP mini cartridges that are so tiny its ridiculous and it probably been in there since the printer was new.
@@OWK000 Another thing about HP is that, if you push too hard, the ink seems to leak into the HP's inner chamber or maybe cause the chamber to burst. I am talking about pushing the clogs out. I found if I put too much pressure, the cartridge will print random characters/patterns, rather than real text. This is very weird.
@@BCHTechnologies @BCH Technologies Wow, thats a HUGE selling point for cheap integrated cartridge Canons printers over HPs, although HPs are pretty reliable otherwise, I keep shorting out my HP cartridges. I do wipe contacts. I usually know when I have done touched something that shorted it.
Hi kevin, i want to convert my canon printerhead to spongeless but i was wondering if i can still salvage my old cartraige. I tried to do priming, steam from kettle, soaking in hotwater, soaking in solution but still my black test print still missing 30% of the lines. How do i do i diagnose if i should quit? Can i send you the picture of my test print?
Thanks a lot for making this video. I am looking forward to store my Canon Prixma G4010 for about 6 months. It would be of great help if you could guide me on how to store it properly show that it will work once I take it out after 6 months.
i havent tried boiling it. i only soaked it in warm water just halfway, opened the cartridge, took out the sponges and rinsed the cartridge until water runs clear, brushed it, my red ink still wont come out. it only comes out when i blow air into the refilling hole. i will try this once i get a new one just in case it still doesn't work lol!
Hello bro, have you ever tried using art paper ink on a spongeless cartridge? Could it be that the ink works in thermal inkjet cartridges because so far it can only be used on Epson
Hi Kevin, how to preserve the cartridges outside the printer? ( You say that you unclogg allot of cartridges.. So after unclogging how do you preserve them?) Thanks for your wideos, it helped allot. :)
Should also be considered as a last resort this method?: just letting cleaning solution sit with the head soaked in it + filling the whole interior of the cartridge with cleaning solution (no boiling or extra methods), waiting some minutes (or even overnight) and using the priming clip.
We just want to show you that it is safe to use heat on integrated Canon cartridge. We usually don't boil it. We put a wet paper towel in a microwave (without cartridge) for 1 minute and then put the cartridge on the steaming paper towel until it cools down.

Great observation. BCH's cleaning solution is ammonia free. However, there are folks who uses bleach or Windex, your comment is right on the point!

I use 3M tape to seal the printhead, then put it into a protective clip. The tape cannot work by itself and must be put on a clip.

This method works very reliably. But about 1\2 inch of water level is good enough. Try not to use water with high hardness.
