FYI you have your countershaft and main shaft terminology backwards. There is a reason it's called the "countershaft sprocket" The other shaft, with the clutch hub, is the "main shaft". Otherwise, good vid.

Would you do the same test if you bought a used motor online? Can you do the same test by putting a socket on the center bolt (the one you were turning) and turning the eng with a drill/driver while shifting through the gears?

Hi really enjoy your vids they are very informative.
Came across this one searching for some answers. I laid my VT600 down pretty hard the other day and now have some issues going on. First and foremost the shifter is bent and can't shift out of neutral. Any suggestions on where to start there?
    Thanks

Replace the shifter. Inspect the shaft to see if it is bent.

I realize that seems obvious. It was limped home in first gear but struggled to stay in it. Before laying it down I was in 3rd and pulled in the clutch and kicked it down into first while braking before laying it down. I will check the shaft for damage.
      Thanks
