    Enjoy :D

    I wouldn’t be able to get rid off one book in a series, I would either give away all the books or keep them all for the sake of my collection, most likely I would keep them so I guess I’m a hoarder

    I love unhauling books - I find it tough initially as I do want to own every book I've read but I definitely don't need books I didn't like so it's super cathartic removing that negativity lol!

    The Agatha Christie one hurts me a bit to be honest. ^^ I love her books, they are a very big comfort to me somehow. I re-read them constantly and especially like to listen to the audiobooks.
    I unhauled a few....well maybe around 200? books last year. I am the type of person that just keeps them until there isn't enough space but then it's also not very difficult to get rid of enough cause by then i have forgotten the boring ones and can easily chuck them out.
    I would love to see another try-a-chapter-tag video from you 😊

    I just wanted to let you know that a majority of the books I own are based on your recommendations/reviews. You're like my sole source of information about books. Never stop making videos here, please😋
    Of all the books I've gotten based on your recommendations, the only ones I didn't like were Every Heart A Doorway and You. Everything else 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

      Both of them I gave 3.5ish starts so it's understandable! I feel like they're both overhyped but can be interesting depending on your taste.
      I'm really happy you're enjoying my recommendations :)

    • @phalenduarte5360
      @phalenduarte5360 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BookswithEmilyFox I have the tendency to hoard my books. But in my defense, I read a lot of series so I gotta keep them together in case I want to reread it lol I only get rid of books I dont finish because I don't like them.

      I have a hoarding problem and so like to keep all my books, which means I've got quite a few books now. My mum on the other hand gets rid of books quite frequently because most of them she'll read only once.

    • @jenniferpeterson530
      @jenniferpeterson530 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I tend to hoard my books lol. The only time I get rid of them is if I absolutely hate them or DNF them more than 3 times (sometimes my mood is off so I give it 3 chances or it’s gone).

    • @Cristina-lo4ip
      @Cristina-lo4ip 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% hoard my books and if I realy, realy don't like a book I put them in storage with my parents books that did not deserved a place on my book shalva😂

  • @Mrs._.GalaxyWanderer
    @Mrs._.GalaxyWanderer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have a hard time unhauling books. I never know if I'll change my opinion about a book after a second read so I keep them if I think I'll reread them. Usually I have to hate and be super uninterested in the book before I am okay to getting rid of it. If it sits on my shelf for at least 1 to 2 years and I don't reread it then I get rid of it.
    The last books I unhauled was "The Female of the Species," "Where'd You Go, Bernadette," "Anna Karenina," and "Don Quixote." They were a mixture of audio and print books. The first two I waited for the hype to die down and read them, but they didn't live up to the hype. The last two I didn't really care for enough to reread it.

    I have the sky is everywhere and I’ll give you the sun but I haven’t read either. The weird thing is, I’ve always read her name as JENNY Nelson. When anyone’s spoken about her books I’ve always heard ‘Jenny’ and not jandy. It wasn’t until this video when I actually saw jandy on the cover and went back and listen to what you said that I realised. It feels weird, kind of like the Mandela effect

    I did my first unhaul since I ever owned some books (which basically is all my life) a few weeks ago but I think I won't do it again because I really love hoarding all of my books. I've also bought the first two books of a series in 2015, didn't like and never finished the first one, never started the second but I still keep them because part 3 and 4 will be out this summer and I still want to give them a try :D

  • @WildeBookGarden
    @WildeBookGarden 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am a very frequent unhauler! Like you, if I'm not going to reread it, I don't keep it--even if it's 4 stars or higher! I've got a big unhaul coming up but the last book that I moved into my "unhaul" box/area was East of the Sun, West of the Moon by Jessica Day George. A good, not great, fairytale retelling and I've read so many amazing ones (it's basically my favorite subgenre of fantasy) that I just don't have room for mediocre ones on my shelves!

    Great thrillers that are not geared towards moms or just older women are written by Karin Slaughter and Lisa Gardner. They are very gritty, and have twists that you can't see coming a mile away. A good starter for Karin Slaughter books is Pretty Girls.

    Mmmm declutter! 💜💜💜
    I felt the same way about the Hobbit *hides*
    And the Giver… I reread it as part of a Dystopian Lit class in college after having read it in high school… I can tell you, I had a 100% different interpretation of the ending in high school from what I have now, and it was eye opening. I don’t know if I’ll reread it, but I purchased it as part of her boxed set of 4 books, so I’m going to read those and then make a decision on the collection as a whole. (It’s not a series, just a collection by the same author with similar content/ideas running through them)

    I reccomend reading the Waking Land. It was worth the read. I did a review of the book around the time it was released. I think you will appreciate the lack of a love triangle and that the romance involved is both a slow born and doesn't overshadow the main plot. I would like to see you do a try a chapter video of these books. I don't think I have ever heard of the other books.

    I declutter my books all the time. Awhile back I got rid of at least half my books because we were supposed to be moving across the country, but as you know my health failed, but I don't really regret giving away any of the books. I used to love chick lit and a lot of YA series that I wouldn't read now so they were just taking up valuable space. I think next to go is The Hunger Games Trilogy. I liked it at the time but I can't see myself rereading it. I already got rid of the Divergent series for the same reason. Now I wish I could get back some of my favorites that Ive lent to people!! But I forget who I lent them too lol

    Emily, BEWARE: I'm listening to Clare Mackintosh's new novel, 'Let Me Lie', and the protagonist is a mom! It's annoying when authors recycle their protagonists, eh? This is my first Mackintosh novel, but I just finished Jane Harper's 'The Dry' AND 'Force of Nature' and they were both awesome!!! I highly recommend those :)

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that it might be a bit of a "write about what you know" or even the stereotype of "lol i'm a wine mom so i have time to read romance and thrillers"... but damn it it's repetitive!

    • @FMsukina

    "The giver"'s sequels are slightly connected to the first one. they are largely independent, also quite dystopian(they explore different aspects of a dystopian world). Check the other ones out, even if you didn't like that particular one ! :D

    I watch unhauls not only I am curious about unpopular opinions but also it makes me curious to even read those books more. I borrow books or read e-books. I only buy a book or a book series if it is a book or a book series that I really want to own.

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true, the reason I didn't like a book could be the reason you'll love it!
      I tend to accumulate physical books quite a bit since I buy most of them used, my library has great sales (3 books for 1$)! If I buy I new book I'm definitely more difficult!

    I'm currently reading Siege and Storm and so far I'm liking a lot more than I anticipated, I heard many people say it's their least favourite book in the trilogy, so maybe my expectations weren't that high, who knows. Have you read LOTR or just seen the movies? Because the books are daunting, if I didn't love that story thanks to the movies I wouldn't have been motivated to start the books. Same thing with The Hobbit, I finished it after watching the films.

    That try a chapter sounds interesting.
    I feel your issue with the YA in sub boxes. Most of the time I watch and unboxing and am glad I didn't get the box.
    I got a bunch of different types of fantasy in the Magic Chest boxes, it's about 50% YA, but I've only gotten one YA book so far that I thought was amazing. DNF'ed a few and haven't finished some.
    Have to say though: I got The Toy Makers by Robert Dinsdale in one of the boxes (it's adult bodering magical realism). It's a fairy tale like story that feels to me like a better version of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and also a bit like The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton.
    I loooved it so much.

    So many people are turning against Sarah J Maas recently xD I tried reading Court of Thorns when it first came out and gave up after the second chapter because the MC was being completely bitchy about her sisters which I immediately felt was out of order.
    Anywa,
    GREAT VIDEO! I love unhauls for some reason xD I am always more interested in why people don't like something or why they're doing something 'negative' like an unhaul.

      Obviously not saying your opinion is wrong, but honestly I feel like Feyre’s feelings against her sister’s are totally reasonable cause she was out there fighting for her and their lives, while they just sat there and did nothing

    I got rid of a court of thorns and roses too lol. I returned it (gasp!) And bought the second one instead. I would get rid of the third one too if i could sell it. But i did keep and recently reread a court of mist and fury and still loved it!

      The second book is the best part for me. The third is meh and the first I would just never touch again. But I keep them together because I do enjoy the trilogy

    Words on bathroom floor is actually good if you like reading books about schizophrenia , the boy is about 16 and there is a not so amazing romance so i think that will put you off😂
    but i did enjoy the mental illness aspect of the book and it's a short quick read so i think you should give it a shot

    Emily, do you ever DNF books? I haven’t been following very long but it seems like you finish a book if you start it. Even if you don’t like it.

    When I've read a book now, i give mine to charity for them to resell
    Very rarely someone in my family will read one
    Kept a handful that I can't bear to part with
    Do keep graphic novels though; somehow seem more likely to reread and like them in my bookcases
    Too many books, too little time

    I get the murder mysteries and moms who drink thing, why moms probably enjoy them haha. Im not a mom but, that's because I can see how terrible and exhausting it must be to be a mom when you strip all the societal glamourizing, rosy lenses crap. Pregnancy, birthing and taking care of basically a parasite, especially for those first needy months sounds traumatizing. And women are expected to be happy and grateful for the whole thing. I don't drink, like ever but, I would want to start drinking. I don't know how our moms love us when we basically tortured them for like 3-4 years.
