Ella Yosef That's a great idea for a video! I've seen several tags with the question of "books you have no interest in reading," but one specifically focused on new releases is even better!

It made me strangely happy to hear what you said about Rowell's books!
I so live in the wrong country! The cheapest i can get books is once a year in the library sale and they are not that cheap!
I love that you unhaul books you actually read and have reasons for unfailing them and not just give books away you didn't even give a try! thats wonderful to see!
Wonderful haul and extremely beautiful look you have going on here!

I'm shocked at a few, but the Giver. Classic dystopian. Classic classic. I would recommend trying to re-read it and actually read the whole quartet. It's heartbreaking and happy at the same time. So good.

Awww you got rid of some of my favorites (the Wrath and the Dawn, Everything Everything and the Night Circus) but that's okay. Different strokes for different folks as they say. Hopefully they'll find great homes. You are so pretty!! Great video as always!

I'm so glad that I was not the only one that did not like The Night Circus. It definitely moves way too slow and the instalove was just a little bit hard to take. I was a super excited to read it because I loved to Caraval and people said that it was even better than that but I definitely think Caraval was better.

I find it very difficult to unhaul books, and I can only really do it if I have read them. I have that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I may read it one day, therefore I can never get rid of it. Even though I use my library all the time! It's ridiculous I know, but I just cant't kick it.

The only Neil Gaiman book that I've ever read was Coraline, and I loved that book (I believe it's middle grade/children's). It's creepy and delightful, and since it's technically middle grade his writing might be less meandering haha. Highly recommend to read during Halloween!

you should read good omens by him its amazing

    • @varnyu
      @varnyu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, Good Omens is wonderful! My favourites from Neil Gaiman so far were American Gods (there's a tv show already, which kinda follows the story) and Stardust. American Gods is my fav book ever - amazing characters, great sense of humour, twists, a tiny bit of philosophy and horror mixed well balanced. Stardust is actually a classic-ish fairytale with a lot of twists, humour, a little bit of creepiness and stuff, I really enjoyed it.
Although, be aware that Gaiman likes to write sex scenes, sometimes weird ones, sometimes in detail, so it's not for the faint of heart. :)

I am late commenting because I just found your channel. I love this video! I like the way you are showing each shelf and which books are read and that you are giving a brief review of the ones you are downsizing. Your bookshelves are so beautiful and you're making me want to try arranging mine by color (they are alphabetical by author). Maybe I will try it one of these lonely Covid days. :) I idolize John Darnielle, who is aka The Mountain Goats band, and so when he wrote a book I was excited to read it. I felt kind of meh about the story though. I still have the book and probably will keep it, but I think I over-hyped it in my mind because he is such a good lyricist and I love his songs so much.

I think you'd enjoy Gaimans Neverwhere a lot more, based on your other faves. It's not as surrealistic, and I usually describe it as a down and dirty (read: f-ed up) Narnia in the London Underground. But I find it interesting how so many people prefer so different writing styles. I love Neil Gaiman for just that, because he kinda writes like I see the world/how I dream. On the other hand I absolutely can't stand any Hemingway-type writing, like at all. Anything overly simplified and I loose track.

Emily, I have watched your beauty videos for years now and you've always been one of my favs. You're my go-to for lip colors!! Anyway, I've been so into your booktube channel lately. I love connecting with other readers! I just have to say that it makes me laugh out loud when you talk about Attachments lol "I would have called the police!" The only Rainbow Rowell book I've read is Eleanor and Park and there were very polarizing opinions in my book club. I think I'm getting too old for YA love stories. I just can't get into the boyfriend/savior story line. Unpopular opinion: I also hated Fault in our Stars and Twilight for the same reasons

I never bought uprooted but I borrowed it from the library twice. Hated it. I wanted to love it too. That's why I borrowed it a second time, to give it another shot, but I dnf it about half way both times. I thought the characters were weak. There was practically no character development either. It was all action, which I can't do. I have read high fantasy and loved them because the character development was really good. I thought the writing was beautiful too but I couldn't get sucked in.

I'm curious what you would think of Howl's Moving Castle. I know a lot of people who didn't like Uprooted because the main interest is a bit of a dick, and usually I agree, but I love Howl!

I've read 3 books by Neil Gaiman each time following the trend and rave reviews. Didn't like any of them. However I'm watching American Gods on TV and it's so amazing, because it actually visualises the "fairy tale" part which makes more sense watching than reading it.
Lena Dunham book.... I listened to the audiobook, I couldn't understand why people loved it. I think I gave it 1/5.

Does anyone know what brand Emily is wearing on her lips? It's a gorgeous color on her! Which makes sense, since she is so gorgeous so anything would look good ❤

Which authors are you must excited to read that you haven't tried yet? Which authors have you been put off by reading a book you didn't like?

Disliking Fangirl is actually not an unpopular opinion. The sequel/spinoff based on the characters Cath writes fanfiction about Carry On is much better. It's a boy-boy love story and has a magic element.
I had no idea Nerve was based on a book!

You should've read American Gods by Neil Gaiman or read his Sandman series, those are amazing.

I also didn't like The Night Circus. I got fooled into buying it because of the hype thay surrounded it and how it was marketed. I do agree that the carnival itself was a wonderful aspect of the book but that's just about it really. The pace was too slow, too flowery, and rather anti-climactic given that there'd be "battle" but really there wasnt. Plus I felt like the love story didn't make sense because they fell in love too soon. I dunno. I guess I belong to the minority who didn't enjoy it *shrugs*

I love the atmosphere and the writing style but really deteste the plot and the way everything went. It seemed very forced and unrealistic. But the aspect of the wonderful language is more important for me so I'm keeping my edition

I read "A Tale of Two Cites" for Brit Lit, but I read it before the rest of the class. I didn't like it either.

okay wait you need to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman!! It's so mythological and not so much fairytalish (I know what you mean, he has that vibe in other books too)
please give it a try :)
