Just because the movie is divisive does not mean the actor won't get nominated. Brendan Fraser won best actor for The Whale and Joaquin Phoenix won for Joker, two extremely divisive films. I do think Daniel Craig can land a nomination.

In March I left this comment on The Oscar Expert's EARLY 2025 Oscar Predictions video. Definitely being slept on: "May i make the case for an outsider? Perhaps not an oscar frontrunner but a definite critical darling that might pick up steam... on the set of Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy got chatting to Matt Damon about wanting to make a movie based on a book called Small Things Like These, written by Claire Keegan, who wrote the book that the Irish movie A Quiet Girl is based on. The director they got made a critically acclaimed tv show called The Responder. And it was adapted by Enda Walsh, the playwright who helped launch Murphy's career. It's got all the right ingredients. The plot is a bit like Spotlight, but it's about a man uncovering religious abuse in 1980s rural Ireland. Premiered at Berlin to a standing ovation."
I don’t think the fact that Adrian Brody won over 20 years ago decreases his chances whatsoever. Emma Stone just won last year over an extremely deserving candidate in Lily Gladstone, Adrian could absolutely win. I think it’s between Adrian and Colman this year.
Everyone is talking about Cillian Murphy performance, more than half of the top 5 picks for awards nominations and yet very few are predicting him to be in, I think he should absolutely be in. I’m glad at least you talked about it.
Cillian Murphy in Small Things Like These was very, very good, but I would also like to nominate Emily Watson in this film for the Best Supporting Actress. Her screen time is very short, but she has two big and intense scenes. She is almost a horror villain in Small Things Like These.
Sebastian Stan deserves best actor nomination for The Apprentice. Jeremy Strong also deserves supporting actor for the film. Hey now, as an Oscar predictor since Rain Man, I have based my predictions on instinct especially where not even half of the movies that give off the vibe get played in my town. It is also a well known fact that Best Actor is my niche (31 wins in 36 years) so much to the point of having four slots well pinned for their respected nominations. However, in regards to the wild card spot, I have to agree with one of the two you called upon: Daniel Craig for Queer. Even though Best Actor has felt a little on the thin side until just recently, I cannot pinpoint a solid winner...at least not at this time. I also want to add, I am gunning for my Numero Venti (20) in that category and if Cillian Murphy doesn't pull an encore (he is my dark horse in the running), it would be a scream if Adrian Brody did take the win especially where his unexpected win in 2002 was the last time I missed Best Actor. Forgive me if I said too much but the hopes of my longtime streak are doomed to go up in smoke unless the race will be another cakewalk...even though I am not sticking my fork down just yet. Stay tuned....💗
My Best Actor prediction: 1. Adrien Brody - The Brutalist 2. Ralph Fiennes - Conclave 3. Timothee Chalamet - A Complete Unknown 4. Daniel Craig - Queer 5. Sebastian Stan - The Apprenrice
Having a previous Oscar should not hurt your chances of winning another one but believe it or not that's something many voters take in consideration before choosing a winner
@@ZlatanHu. Buddy I'm not saying you can't win again, just that many voters Will have that in mind. If they really love a performance they Will go for It no mater what
@ZlatanHu. Buddy I'm not saying you can't win again, just that It's something many voters Will have in mind before making a decision. If they really love a performance they Will go for It no matter what
@ He doesn't have zero chance. He is not the favourite to win it, but the chances are not zero. I think he is strong second in that order, and the fact that he doesn't have an Oscar, and Brody does, just helps him. Also, he was in two movies this year and he was great in both
I think my five predictions are: - Adrian Brody - Timothee Chalamet - Ralph Fiennes - I’m actually going Andrew Garfield for We Live in Time - I’m also a bit torn on the 5 slot but I’m thinking I’m actually leaning more Daniel Craig
I am hoping that Andrew will be lucky in the wild card slot; he's a terrific actor who like Ralph has two nominations already. I'm not sure I see it happening for this movie though.
I think you’re underestimating Stan’s chances, and he’ll have a good chance BECAUSE of the vote. I can see him being nominated essentially as a protest towards Trump’s election win, which depending on what happens next year, could potentially result in him winning. It’s not out of the question given how disliked he is.
I can find no objections to your comment. I love Sebastian Stan so I would LOVE for him to win, but nobody's gonna reward him for playing the most hated character in Hollywood 😬
I highly doubt Timothee Chalamet will win but maybe he could and I want him to win an Oscar. I do agree with you that Adrien Brody is the frontrunner based on what I've heard, but for me my wildcard for anyone who could beat Adrien Brody is Colman Domingo in Sing Sing.
Ralph Fiennes has the greatest narrative he's a great actor he's an old member at the academy he never won he did some astonishing performances in the english patient, the constant Gardner, Schindler's list, the end of the affair and more
I really dont think Paul Mescal is happening. Ive seen way too many mixed reactions to his performance. Everyone keeps saying that Denzel is the one that runs away with the movie, and he may be judged under the lens of Russell Crowe winning for the first one. Right now I have Daniel Craig, but it's possible it could be some other passion pick like Sebastian Stan. Sadly, I think the election results will hamper his chances. Maybe some smaller movie could sweep in.
Honestly, I do think Sebastian Stan for A Different Man might have a shot at that 5th slot. I loved him in that. But ALSO, Raul Briones for La Cocina should be in the conversation. That movie is insane and his performance is INCREDIBLE!!
I predict you will change your Paul Mescal prediction after you see the movie… not because of him but because of the movie! Not that it’s bad, but it’s not Oscar worthy, imho of course !!
Paul is great, but Gladiator 2 just isn't Oscar worthy. Definitely production wise, but not acting wise. Paul is the best young performer out there and he'll have his moment some day. I truly believe that he and Jeremy Strong will win not only one academy award in their careers, but several.
Adrien Brody's big competitors for the Oscars 2025 Best Actor are Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave, Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice & Daniel Craig for Queer
Have you seen Goodrich starring Michael Keaton? I'm also curious if you've seen Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? I'd like to see Keaton get recognized, considering he played two very different roles this year. Michael was great in both movies. It's a shame if you haven't seen Goodrich & Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I saw both at the movie theater.
Conclave seemed so much like a redo of shoes of a fisherman, the two popes, and the second de Vince code move. I was a little underwhelmed by the script. But Ralph is great in anything. I’m all about Hugh Grant and Demi Moore finally getting their flowers this year. I want to see them nominated.
Timothee Chalamet for OSCAR , his record and his work effort in his movies which I have watched from Interstellar, Little Women, CMBYN, Dont look up, Wonka, Dune 1 which I thought his performance as Paul was magnificent only to magnify it to Epic in Dune 2 plus the Bob Dylan movie which I am looking forward to and I know he will bring his A game because thats what he does.. if he does not win I want to know why ???? TIMOTHY FOR OSCAR 💕
ralph all the way the media cannot make me like the snoozalist ( i mean the brutalist ) which is painfully boring to watch. 3.5 hours. gtfoh. even oppenheimer and Killers of the flower Moon wasn't that long.
My no guts no glory pick for the fifth slot is John David Washington. Hear me out. Craig's movie is way to polarizing and it's Craig or bust. People don't want to watch a Trump movie and thus Stan is most likely out. Mescal is actually said to be miscast by a few reactions for Gladiator II. Piano Lesson is meanwhile considered pretty good by a lot of major trade reviews, and Deadwyler is guaranteed a spot. Netflix is also a strong campaigner as well. Aside from Deadwyler, JDW is also getting solidly good reviews for his role and I think he could get in alongside Deadwyler.
@@Jazz_Lapen Andrew Scott is the weakest performer of All of Strangers. He couldn't even get a BAFTA nomination while the others nominated. Oscar nomination is just a dream.

George C Scott and Marlon Brando to name two were both nominated the year after they won.William Hurt was nominated twice more in successive years after winning.
Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
I loved "Sing Sing"; it's my favorite movie of the year so far. I have great love for Colman Domingo, whose performance is just perfect. But it is understated, letting the other actors shine, I'm wondering if that might hurt him. Really the breakout performance in the movie is Clarence Macklin, who will get a nod hopefully in Best Supporting Actor.
I truly hope it flops at the Oscars, I'm sick of Biopics. I'm only excited for the Bruce Springsteen biopic but only because I love the album that the film is based on.
In the 1930s, Spencer tracy was nominated (and won) in two consecutive years; in the 1990s, so too, was tom hanks nominated (and won), so why not Cillian Murphy? As it happens, Ralph Fiennes is a shoo-in, in my opinion.
Although, I enjoyed this video! Sadly, I must say that attendance for films shown in theaters is declining due to a societal change among traditional film goers! Also sadly, as well, the Academy Awards Shows are quietly, slipping into irrelevance! This may be partly due to the Academies’ insistence on being exclusively shown on broadcast television, and not on the wildly more popular streaming platforms- which almost everyone prefers! Please note that your video is being watched, and appreciated on TH-cam! Perhaps, someday, the Academy will wise-up, before it’s too late?
That flash of perfect pearly whites from Denzel Washington was enough to convince me NOT to see Gladiator II. Wouldn't it be nice if actors could put aside their vanity for the sake of historical realism? Or even simply to avoid yanking the viewer out of their suspension of disbelief?
The movie doesn't need to be super well-received for the actor to win or let alone be nominated. Why do you think Brendan Fraser won despite The Whale only having a 63% on RT?
eager to see timoty's movie....his prosthetic nose looks about right.....fiennes will get another nom : alas...........coleman domingo will win. (cant wait to see s stan's trumpy film) ..... daniel craig wont get a nom.... adore paul mescal !!!! hope there are some upsets at the oscars, alwys so predictable lately. not fun.
These film companies dropping the ball on theatrical releases this year is baffling. I can't help but wonder if things would look different if there were wider releases for some movies.
I have to check both ‘Conclave’ and ‘The brutalist’ to decide which of the its lead actors deserve to win. So far, I’m a bit in the middle, since I love Brody and it makes me so happy that he’s back at the top with a role that showcases his talent. But on the other hand, he already has won an Oscar and Ralph Fiennes (shocking as that may sound) hasn’t. So, as I said, I have to watch both movies to make up my mind, but I’m a fan of both actors.
Big fan of your videos, first time commentor. Just watched Gladiator and in no way, shape or form do I think Paul Mescal deserves to be nominated. Wonderful actor, just not the greatest performance.

Why does Adrian Brody look 20 years older than Timmy in that acceptance speech?? Adrian then is of a similar age to Timothee now right??😭
Because Chalamet looks like a 15 year old.
My Best Actor prediction:
1. Adrien Brody - The Brutalist
2. Ralph Fiennes - Conclave
3. Timothee Chalamet - A Complete Unknown
4. Daniel Craig - Queer
5. Sebastian Stan - The Apprenrice
Having a previous Oscar should not hurt your chances of winning another one but believe it or not that's something many voters take in consideration before choosing a winner
Yeah, like they did with Emma Stone last year..
@@ZlatanHu. Buddy I'm not saying you can't win again, just that many voters Will have that in mind. If they really love a performance they Will go for It no mater what
@ZlatanHu. Buddy I'm not saying you can't win again, just that It's something many voters Will have in mind before making a decision. If they really love a performance they Will go for It no matter what
@@beto1744 They are really unpredictable in that regard 🤷🏻
I cannot comment as I have not seen the Brutalist. Has this come/is it coming to the UK?
If Timothée Chalamet wins his Oscar, he will be new youngest actor in Best actor category, beating Brody's record
He has ZERO chance, other than the fact that he will be nominated
@ He doesn't have zero chance. He is not the favourite to win it, but the chances are not zero. I think he is strong second in that order, and the fact that he doesn't have an Oscar, and Brody does, just helps him. Also, he was in two movies this year and he was great in both
There's no chance for him to win here he's at the bottom of this list not even top 3 according to me... He's extremely overrated
@@Nishanth_mementomori Overrated to you and you are not the voter. So yeah
@@swvi9459 well I can still have an opinion last time I checked I had the freedom to share my opinion
Whoa! I just realized I never subscribed to you! 😂 subscribed. Great videos Oscar buddy!
I think my five predictions are:
- Adrian Brody
- Timothee Chalamet
- Ralph Fiennes
- I’m actually going Andrew Garfield for We Live in Time
- I’m also a bit torn on the 5 slot but I’m thinking I’m actually leaning more Daniel Craig
I am hoping that Andrew will be lucky in the wild card slot; he's a terrific actor who like Ralph has two nominations already. I'm not sure I see it happening for this movie though.
Ralph Fiennes, Sebastian Stan,
Colman Domingo
Paul Mescal,
Hugh Grant,
Adrian Brody,
Daniel Craig,
John David Washington.
😊😊😮
Hue Grant is great, but his performance in Heretic was nothing special IMHO.
I could see juror 2 being a possibility
I think you’re underestimating Stan’s chances, and he’ll have a good chance BECAUSE of the vote. I can see him being nominated essentially as a protest towards Trump’s election win, which depending on what happens next year, could potentially result in him winning. It’s not out of the question given how disliked he is.
I can find no objections to your comment. I love Sebastian Stan so I would LOVE for him to win, but nobody's gonna reward him for playing the most hated character in Hollywood 😬
Small things like these is such an amazing movie. Cillian doesn't even have to speak and the torment on his face. Fantastic. ❤
My five is Brody, Domingo, Fiennes, Stan (The Apprentice) and Chalamet or Craig
Actually Kingsley Ben Adir for Chalamet
Ralph Fiennes has the greatest narrative he's a great actor he's an old member at the academy he never won he did some astonishing performances in the english patient, the constant Gardner, Schindler's list, the end of the affair and more
Jeff Bridges is so good in True Grit thank you for the reminder
A show about entertainment talking about actors acting. How refreshing.
I have a feeling Joaquin Phoenix may get a razzy nomination. Not because he is terrible but because that movie is such a joke
Nah, he'll get nominated at the globes
Have you seen Goodrich starring Michael Keaton? I'm also curious if you've seen Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? I'd like to see Keaton get recognized, considering he played two very different roles this year. Michael was great in both movies. It's a shame if you haven't seen Goodrich & Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I saw both at the movie theater.
Ralph Fiennes - Conclave
Adrien Brody - The Brutalist
Colman Domingo -Sing Sing
Timoteé Chalamet - A Complete unknown
Paul Mescal - Gladiator II
Conclave seemed so much like a redo of shoes of a fisherman, the two popes, and the second de Vince code move. I was a little underwhelmed by the script. But Ralph is great in anything. I’m all about Hugh Grant and Demi Moore finally getting their flowers this year. I want to see them nominated.
Paul M. definitely not.
It helps that the Pianist was one of Polanski's best ever films. I think Chalemet is only win-competitive if A Complete Unknown gets rave reviews
Lol. Overrated. And too early. He never done anything close to Adrien Brody in Pianist, so he would not be the youngest winner in history
Timothee was great in the King!!!
ralph all the way
the media cannot make me like the snoozalist ( i mean the brutalist ) which is painfully boring to watch. 3.5 hours. gtfoh. even oppenheimer and Killers of the flower Moon wasn't that long.
John David Washington for The Piano Lesson
I like John David Washington so much. I wouldn't mind him getting some love. It would be wild if he and his father were nominated in the same year. ❤
Colman got in for Rustin, so he is deffo getting in for sing sing
He's great in Sing Sing. Wish Andrew Scott received a nomination over Rustin, because now Domingo gets in again.
@@Jazz_Lapen Andrew Scott is the weakest performer of All of Strangers. He couldn't even get a BAFTA nomination while the others nominated. Oscar nomination is just a dream.
@Michael-ru2nh he was phenomenal in all of us strangers.
Adrien Brody - The Brutalist
Cillian Murphy - Small Things Like These
Colman Domingo - Sing Sing
Ralph Fiennes - Conclave
Timothee Chalamett - A Complete Unknown
i am telling you right now that cillian is coming for a spot with his performance in the small things like these
Ralph Fiennes or Colman

P.S. look me up on The Awards Expert app @poihpio98 for more wrong predictions and even wronger favourites!
Tom Hanks was not only nominated for back to back best actor, he won both.
I wouldn’t count Killian Murphy out. The movie is excellent and his performance I believe is even better than Oppenheimer
Due to the way WB has kept people from seeing Juror #2, it won’t happen but Nicholas Holt deserves a nod for his performance in that film.
Chalamet will be
29 to yo in December!
George C Scott and Marlon Brando to name two were both nominated the year after they won.William Hurt was nominated twice more in successive years after winning.
Also Bing Crosby and Paul Muni. Spencer Tracy and Tom Hanks both won their second Oscar the year after the first.
Heretic is one of my favorite movies of the year and Hugh Grant is amazing.
In what regards? Stupid, pretentious movie and extremely lazy role for Hue. Nothing special🤔
Thank you for your insight! I really look forward to watching Sing Sing.
Is anyone aware of any reviews for a complete unknown?
I truly hope it flops at the Oscars, I'm sick of Biopics. I'm only excited for the Bruce Springsteen biopic but only because I love the album that the film is based on.
I've seen all these movies. Brody is going to sweep. It's easily top 5 of this decade.
I doubt you have watched A Complete Unknown, considering press screenings start mid November.
u seen all the movie? really ...A complete unknown start screening 20 november 2024 ...so are you see all the movie ..or ...
U forgot Gabrielle labelle for Saturday night.
He is definitely winning the golden globe for best actor comedy or musical
I saw someone hyping Hugh Grant for Heretic. I had prepared Bond jokes for this category, I don’t need to prepare Blanc/Phillip jokes too.
If Adrian Brody wins, he will be the male Hilary Swank. 2 time winners who've had lackluster careers.
Hey ! Put Kevin Costner in there ! He's doing so well in Horizon
In the 1930s, Spencer tracy was nominated (and won) in two consecutive years; in the 1990s, so too, was tom hanks nominated (and won), so why not Cillian Murphy? As it happens, Ralph Fiennes is a shoo-in, in my opinion.
I'm just saying Josh O'Connor is great in Challengers and he is also the lead in La Chimera which I have not yet seen.
Although, I enjoyed this video!
Sadly, I must say that attendance
for films shown in theaters is
declining due to a societal change
among traditional film goers! Also
sadly, as well, the Academy Awards Shows are quietly, slipping
into irrelevance! This may be partly due to the Academies’ insistence on being exclusively
shown on broadcast television, and not on the wildly more popular streaming platforms- which almost everyone prefers!
Please note that your video is being watched, and appreciated
on TH-cam!
Perhaps, someday, the Academy
will wise-up, before it’s too late?
That flash of perfect pearly whites from Denzel Washington was enough to convince me NOT to see Gladiator II. Wouldn't it be nice if actors could put aside their vanity for the sake of historical realism? Or even simply to avoid yanking the viewer out of their suspension of disbelief?
we live in time can surprise
Billy Zane for Waltzing with Brando for 2026 Oscar Best Actor
I can't help but wonder if things would look different if there were wider releases for some movies.
i think joker part two is going to get a lot of bad movie award 2024 with borderland too
I would like to see Hugh Grant get some love for Heretic.
Austin Butler should have won!
Kiernan Culkan A Real Pain
Adrian or Ralph
I dont understand why "its time" have any relevance in Best Actor Academy Award, you are or you are not, its not now its youre time to get it.
Mescal for an action movie? Never! Russel Crowe was an exception back than. Will not happen again.
Big fan of your videos, first time commentor.
Just watched Gladiator and in no way, shape or form do I think Paul Mescal deserves to be nominated. Wonderful actor, just not the greatest performance.
