That was a cosy looking hut, mice aye they always find there way in some how.... nice view of the mountains... surprised you didn’t see a deer grazing in the paddocks, usually lots of deer out that way, cool vid 👍
I saw a few deer at the beginning of the track, but they were on the private land around the track. Once I got into the track I only saw pig and goat. I was moving a little fast during the middle of the day, so probably walked past them!
@@OAPAdventures well if you ever go back there again you know now, have your camera ready when your walking along the farm get some good video shots of deer
Mate forgot to mention that after the steady climb, it turns into a steep climb up to the Ridge. Definitely not an easy hike. It took our party 4 hours from the first locked gate to the Hut. The track is also very muddy after some rain. Take gaiters!
I agree that the track would be pretty muddy after some rain. Its not that well used. I think it took me about the same time to get there. Thanks for watching.
Sure does look like a cozy hut, pretty flash considering it isn't visited much. Sounds like it was the mice that needed hunting! Haha. I would run right out of the hut and back to the start of the track if there were three more of me in there.
Thank you for uploading a video of the southern end of the Hauhangaroa traverse, at some stage hopefully at end of Dec i will do the whole traverse and there is not alot of info out there from waihaha hut to mangakahu valley road. from reading the comments, good to know about the road access. sounds like you need to park a way down the road and go through a few gates to get to the start of the track?
The road at the southern end finishes at a locked gate. There is room for a couple of cars near the gate but off the road. I parked there no problem. A short walk across the farm and through a few gates, and you're in the park. I did that traverse many years ago, before the hut was updated. Thanks for watching.
thank you, heading out there soon to finish off the traverse. late December traversing from north to south we pulled pin & went out at Waihaha hut track due to lots of windfall between Mt Weraroa and Waihaha hut (made for a very long demanding day - letting you know incase you do this section again sometime ). its a beautiful, magical mossy forest isnt it! memories that will last a life time@@OAPAdventures
There is a quad track for the first 1 or 2 km or until the track starts to climb. But there are a number of padlocked gates to get through on the private land access route before you get to the Forest Park. Access appears not to be encouraged as there are no stiles, no track markers etc. I just followed the fence line until I got to the boundary.
Yes, I did. I stayed a couple of nights as I wanted to hunt the clearings I talked about. Unfortunately, I didn't see a deer. I did see some sign, and the odd pig and goat, but no deer. It was July last year, so things might have changed
Yes, I thought it would be fine, and it was. There's not a lot of room and the only 1 x property past the gate, so I didnt think that there would be much reason for anyone to be around. I have been back again for 2 x nights and had no issues.
Awesome video. So you got to take your gun for a walk ah Pete? Great audio, what mic are you using, please? PS You are lucky to have gotten out alive...all three of those dudes looked a bit sus ;-)
Cheers. Yes, the gun is far better behaved on a walk than the dog will ever be. The audio comes straight from camera, no external mic and no post-production. The GoPro Max has a great internal mic (when there is no wind) and thats what I use for the talking stuff.
Great video! Thanks!
Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.

Great stuff, I've been keen to check this one out. Absolutely loved the hut mates, a hilarious touch
Cheers. I am told I could start an argument in an empty room, so I had to watch what I said.

Yep, might have been too many of me. Any dramas and I only had myself to blame!
@@OAPAdventures the guy readingthe book , he looked dodgy, sleep with your back to the wall.
@@Stephen-dd7up Yes, I was worried about him.
Enjoyed your video, sure looks to be a nice hut. Cheers
Yep, very comfortable hut. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

Looks like a nice hut, I've been meaning to get there for a hunt for a while. Have you been in since you made this video?

Did you feel safe leaving your car at the road end Pete?

Hey, did you find the axe buddy?
Yep, chucked under the shelter. Blunt, as usual. Glad I had my little folding saw.
take pison in to all huts this will help with the little buggers
I should have taken some, yes. I will do next time! Thanks for watching.
What's "wild camping"?
Its a term I picked up in the UK. Camping away from the car and away from designated camping grounds after a walk.
take some baits with u
Yep, a good idea for next time. Thanks for watching.
