I remember the first time I faced off against the final boss gauntlet. My Locke was Lv. 99, had an Offering and Genji Glove equipped, Atma Weapon in one hand, Illumina in the other. I pressed "Fight" one time. Hit Kefka eight times, doing 9,999 damage each time. 79,992 damage. Kefka never even had a chance to attack me. He just died lol.
Calmness is a physical attack that sets your HP to 0. It's not an Instant Death effect so you can't use a Safety Bit. But Phantom/Fenrir/Golem will block it. Mirage Vest (& one of Shadow's Thrown items) also works in a pinch.
ah for this instance it's essentially the same thing but that's a fun thing to know. we use fenrir in the all characters/espers speedrun since we need to grab it. would be better for any% but would take far to long to grab
@@BdewdMakes sense. I run a lot of randomizers so I just go AWOOO when best doggo shows up. But sometimes you just have to Block the Calmness (TM) and pray he doesn't do 2 of them.
Tier 1 is a huge armor check. Tier 2 can turn into pasta spaghetti if the RNG chooses bad/troll spells. Nothing better than 3 members getting frozen with N Cross while Bio poisons them. Tier 3 is a lesson in counting damage. It's harder in non-SNES versions because Repose/Calmness is a physical attack but you want magic evade to dodge Meteo. Final Kefka won't cast Fallen One/Heartless Angel if you deal about 30,000 damage before he attacks. If he starts counter attacking you're good. STOP and wait for him to charge up Goner/Forsaken. He will never counter attack while charging, so dump all of your damage here and try to kill him before he fires it. If Kefka's under 10,000 HP there is a 1/4 chance he will counter with Ultima.
This is the way I play! I use this method every time! I have notes on this game. You can cast stop on Power! Machine can be killed with doom, air anchor, or break! Magic should be mute immediately or if you got Strago cast Sour Mouth that negates any magic. Tiger weak to ice!
machine is actually immune to break otherwise we would be using it for a faster animation and higher hit chance than doom typically. OR, just spam the rods. i like that strat :)
once you get past tier 3 you just whisper to yourself "don't frick it up don't frick it up" then even if the run is slow, it feels good to have a solid finish
So I was watching a Sub-32 hour FF1-6 marathon, the 3rd phase somehow got to cast Meteo(r?) twice in a row. Edgar, Sabin and Gogo died going into Kefka. So the runner had to use Setzer and Mog for Kefka. Mog still had 2 Pearl Rods left that could still do 9999 damage to Kefka. At that point, they had only those two and Celes. I thought it was going to be a wipe, but they still managed to pull through. People say this boss is easy, but I haven’t seen how, yet.
Sounds like terrible execution with a ton of unnecessary grinding for mog to be doing max damage with pearl rods. Congrats on the person beating the 6 games but as to reference for this video it doesn't sound like it was going for top times with no safeties as we discuss here :)
Double meteo happens when Sleep counters with meteo right before his turn comes up, where he meteos again. It's best to wait for him to attack rather than risk the counter.
Awesome breakdown. I prefer randomized FF6 and going through it 100% with minimal grinding, but I have the utmost respect for speedrunners who can make immediate adjustments. I didn't know of some of these strategies, and I've been playing the game since it came out back in the mid-90s!
I looove this video. Hoping for more in this way. Very specific thoughts and info based on particular fights. Really hoping for move videos just like it.
i may try some later in the future. it's a lot more work and gets less viewership so it's a little discouraging but i like doing something with a lot deeper substance from time to time :)
that's pretty much what we do in the 100% category of this speedrun. but instead of ultima spam we just break a ton of shields and mimic breaking the shields. pretty much every tier lasts only a couple of rounds and that's with pretty much no level grinding. shields are so stupid to break hahaha
@@MattLyte you can use rods and shields as an item in your inventory. it costs you the item but rods will do a tier 2 spell and shields will do a tier 3 spell. it's very good because it ignores magic defense, ignores things like reflect, and always rolls the highest damage roll
naw just have one character jump in the air to get those attacks to miss, then revive steiner and company and use charge. plus it's only 1 boss fight, 2 if you count Kuja but you get a menu in between. relatively scripted aside from him using protect or Freya getting trance
@@Bdewd you're just giving me a strategy how to beat Necron. With Kefka it's so easy you just hit him, cast Ultima, or bahamut till he's dead no strategy needed.
grand cross isnt the only move of the necron's to watch out for necron also uses neutron ring after grand cross, the necron also has a random chance of using meteor.
I've played all of octopath the year it came out and had fun with the true hidden boss. Still kicking myself for not getting octopath 2 for tears of the kingdom tho
You can "store" timed events like the collapsing house where you find Sabin. Then you carry it all the way to the final battle. You can do some shenanigans to spawn on the same switch 3 times and that will open the final battle. The final boss starts but then the timer ends and kicks you out of the battle. Because the battle ended, the game proceeds to play the ending sequence because that's "obviously" the only way you could have ended the battle without dying.

A lot of people didn't know that the music for the final boss was actually done by Tiers for Fears.
... dammit... that's clever.
Meanwhile, when you're *not* speedrunning the game, you just spam Ultima and completely miss out on all the complexity these fights have to offer.
:( where's the fun in that
Ummmm

Almost perfect. If that fight would force you to use 4 swapped party members for each level... make you have to rely on everyone.
cries in any% cuz i'd have to grab more characters and gear D:

Dang, you've got this down to a science.
you have to, for when things go downhill you can't throw in the towel when you are THIS close to finishing a run :O
Kefka will always be the best boss in the FF series. Best story, coolest attacks, and the best theme song!

I can only imagine how satisfying this fight is after five hours with of quick thinking to get here.

Pixel remaster the magic on tier 2 cannot cast Dispel if silenced
that is true, you get the text box on top that takes a really long time that says no effect and i hate it HAHA
Oh! That's a change. Magic likes to troll me with Quartr -> double Dispel my Life3/Regen/Hasted user lol
This is way too much thinking for me for a video game. I prefer to grind up to deity level than crush all in my path.

No, ff6 final boss is too easy therefore not the best.
FF9's Necron far more challenging, the way that it hit you with grand cross again and again.

@jokotri2186 How are you getting or using Ultima on a speedrun? This video is about speedrun specific strategies.
hmm....
If you like kefka, I wonder what will be your opinion for the final bosses of octopath traveler 1 & 2 (no spoilers here)

How many tries on the final boss
I watched it, very nice outlay.
Magic? I beat the game using attack and potions. Kefka is a wazzock and he was polishing my boots while begging for mercy by the end of things.
I just finished the pixie on android. I'm a collector n learn all from espers.
I cast Ultima the whole time lol
How does that glitched fight work? That looked baffling

Its pretty fricky but with coordinate storage and warping up kefkas tower it's pretty funny. We call that "throwing a house on kefka strats"
