Now we need a follow-up where Paladin Cecil reaches level 99 with max HP before leaving Mt Ordeals.
Characters aren't reset upon rejoining. They actually gain experience after they've joined at least once and left, which is why Tellah came back at 99.
Yep the only character who gets a level reset is Cecil once he actually becomes a paladin and yes while when you first get him his stats suck because he's at lv1 he has some insane stat growth and he will be holding he's own once your back down mount ordeals
@@jonmcknight18 It's also a good idea to do some solo grinding with Cecil on the way down so that Rosa, Rydia, Kain and Yang all benefit. The experience given to the out-of-party characters is equal to what's displayed at the end of the battle, meaning Cecil getting 4000 (as opposed to 1000 each between himself, Palom, Porom and Tellah) also means those out of party characters get 4000 each.
@@Arbron Yeah the crazy thing about FF4 is that in the long term, the best way to play is actually Paladin Cecil solo, because it vastly increases the amount of EXP your permanent team gains.
@@Expelsword014Wait really? How do you set that up?
@@stormcutter59 Like Arbon says above, EXP given at the end of battle is totaled from all the monsters, then divided evenly among all living battle participants - this is the number that is displayed as the reward, and every character gets that much EXP added. For example, lets say you kill one monster worth 1000 EXP, but you have 4 characters alive at the end of battle. The game will tell you that you gained 250 EXP, and everyone gains 250 EXP. If you have only 1 character, then the game will say that you gained 1000 EXP, and that character gets 1000 EXP.
The thing that you can abuse is that characters that are out-of-party still receive EXP to level them up - they receive the same EXP your living battle party gets whenever a battle is completed. If you have Cecil fight alone. he will level up 4x faster than normal because he's not sharing EXP with anyone. The 4x EXP he gains will also be given to each OOP member directly - the characters that are in your party early but come back later (Rosa, Kain, Rydia) are thus also leveling at 4x speed. It's not always easy to have Cecil do everything alone, but the less you divide the EXP throughout the game, the more everyone is getting in the background before they rejoin.
6:09
That's a mechanic used to make sure that when players rejoin, they aren't dozens of levels behind your current players. Speedrunners of FFIV use it to make sure that Kain and Rosa have certain levels/abilities to progress.
I thought this was a pretty well-known trope of Final Fantasy games. They're supposed to be fighting alongside the main party.
It depends on the version of ff4. Most let characters gain levels but there is one of the rereleases that doesn't.
I can only imagine the conversation that occurs when Tellah sees a 7 year old casting Meteor.
This made me laugh harder than it should have. I just imagined Tellah throwing his hands up and says to Cecil "The hell do you need me for?"
After level 70, when a character levels up, the game chooses randomly from a set of possible stat upgrades. I can tell from Palom's stats he got several of the +3 Strength, Intellect. Strength is relatively useless for him and it looks like Intellect is maxed, so those points were wasted. To truly get the strongest you could be, you'd need to reset and re-level until you get a more useful one like +2 Agility, Intellect, Spirit or +1 to All.
Every character has their own set of possible upgrades, so for each you'd have to plan out how many of which upgrade you need to get as close to maxed as you can. This also means you need to get Tellah to 99 before he leaves so you can control his stat growth.
Oh my God, I never even knew that
I don't know if it's true in the remastered versions, but Tellah is the only character who can actually LOSE stats as he levels....poor old Sage!
@@dtnuh i thought all characters had a chance to lose stats after level 70.
This!
@@dtnuh he literally gets inflicted with a worse version of the old spell!
You do these challenges so we dont have to. You tell us its a waste of time, we watch the video even more. Thats a smart tactic. Keep us hooked, keep us hungry for more. Good lad.
damn people are starting to figure me out
@@Primalliquid92 I started playing final fantasy when it was called final fantasy and that was part 3. First JRPG i remember is ultima 4. I was very young i learned how to read on that game. I was amazed there were 3 previous versions. I thoght they would be equally as good. When FF6 first came out on playstation I thought it would have full motion video and 3D graphics. The moral of the story is if you can hook somebody with the best content then all the lesser content gets noticed by default. I been hooked by default the whole time. I am that old. I admire dudes your age going back to games this old and grinding them out. You fully got me back into FF8 btw. In my 40s feeling like a kid again. Thanks gov....
Fun fact. Depending on the version of the game is depending on if the party members you get back will increase in levels :) . SNES ff2 members will increase. But some of the ff4 versions later released to not ! I have done the grind to KO Kain in your duel.
Didn't cap Kain's level before Mist Dragon, gotta do it all over again lol. In all seriousness, though, this is crazy dedication, well done.
yea there was no way i was gonna do that grind lol
Final Fantasy IV Is my favorite FF of all time, and one of my top five games of all time too! Seeing those kinds of numbers as Cecil is a dark knight is just ridiculous, bravo for putting in all the time and effort!
Hell yeah, it's awesome to see someone that actually loves the good FF games!
What is you preferred formation for the luner subtarain party fbfbf or bfbfb I prefer the latter and use a metal boomerang masamune
In the original FF II when I was a kid I figured out you could go north of Mt. Ordeals you had the higher-level mobs that gave a ton of XP, and they weren't too strong for Cecil if he had the Black armor and sword that would insta-kill enemies (I think it was called Death in later versions?). So I would skip Mysidia, grind with Cecil, go back to get the twins, level them up, get Cecil his Paladin, and then go back and grind some more, and later Kain, Rosa, and Rydia's levels would match. But this is a whole other level lol.
Thank you for documenting this total madness!
I played so much of this as a kid. I would level up at the beginning so Kain would be even stronger when he returns to the party. The pixel remaster is so good.
This one feels special compared to the other challenges since all this work simply poofs when he becomes a Paladin so you can even continue the game as normal after. well I guess your party members would be changed but most of the people you have at the time of becoming a Paladin you don't have anymore or have an altered version.
My goodness, Mr Liquid. Your self-loathing to do this much work only for it to be literally erased is amazing
I remember I always levelled up my Paladin Cecil as solo when my party get to Zot Tower. Man, FFIV Remake has EXP boost that made him level up so fast.
Sweet!
I kept 4x exp on but still stopped at lv 60 since the FINAL spells for Rydia are at lv 60 for Meteor and Rosa gets her final spell at lv 56.
TO SOLO lv Edge to lv 60 fight ONLY the Summoners on the way to Ashura that summon the Quake casting spiders and have Edge solo those due to always must be in the float status you'll never die those spiders ONLY use Quake and if you have Rosa MINI the summoner before killing her when those aren't summoning they will only hit physically for 1 damage to to the nearly USELESS Mini spell.
Gotta love a How Op can you get vid by the Aqueous Reptile. Keep it up, I love your series
hey im totally a land animal
Finally, my favorite FF game appears on this channel.
its called the Crystal X Method from the original SNES version. instead of trying to raise everyone's level through grinding. You just raise palom, porom, and cecil This is easier when palom gets bio. Once your levels are high, all other characters come into play at the higher levels.
Story time, hope this doesn't get lost in the comments... When I was a 10 years old and visiting family one summer I tried FF2 (4) for the first time and got to Kaipo before I had to leave until Christmas (military family). My cousin who was 6 years old (yes, seriously) wanted to play but I told him not to leave the Kaipo desert but he could otherwise play my game. When I came back for Christmas I found he had followed my direction and hadn't progressed any further... but he HAD played every single day and had both Cecil and Rydia at level 99! He had also bought 99 of every item that he could find to buy but still had an absurd amount of gold. We ended up playing together for the story from then forward which was a cake walk for quite a while. It was definitely funny watching Telah die casting the legendary meteo(r) spell even thought Rydia had learned it a long time before.
You've earned my comment, like, and sub many hour ago
Listening while driving. 3:45 "thousands!?"
Um holy cow. I legit didn't knew you were working on this video when I commented about wanting to see one. Now its here. Thank you so much.
this is the perfect pointlessly overpowered video cause you almost instantly loose all of that effort as soon as you move on with the actual game i love it
Primal, if you're doing a series of old games again, please look into radiata stories. Imo hands down one of the best game from square in the ps2 era. Great story and fun gameplay, and it even has multiple ending. Hope you have a chance to play through it
Once you're hooked, then maybe you can show overpowered video on that game too and defeat the unbeatable fights without cheats lol
This brings back memories and goes to the extreme of what I used to do when I was seven years old. I knew that Tellah would level up because Tellah's level would be linked to Rydia's. (I knew this because I would kill off all the other party members and only level Rydia.)
I don't believe they get a level reset as well cause you can get Yang back later and he is at a higher level than you are when he comes back.
Depends on the version.
In the original few versions the levels were based on Cecil for first joining, then they gained EXP for every battle, even when unavailable.
After the DS remake however the levels became fixed, no matter what you do when a character joins or rejoins the party their level is determined by the story, not other character levels etc. This does mean characters can lose levels if you power level them before they leave.
I believe the mechanic is if they are in your party and then leave, they receive the same EXP as Cecil (it may be same as party) from that point forward. So, if you get 1000 exp, when you get Yang back later, his level will have increased as if he received 1000 exp from when he left.
This is why no matter how much you grind, Cid, Edge, and FuSoLa all come at the same level each time, while Yang, Kang, Rosa, and Rydia scale to Cecil.
I abuse this by grinding Cecil solo on Mt. Ordeals after he becomes a paladin. He can get to level 45-50 with just a couple hours of grinding and then Rosa, Rydia, and Kang come in all powered up for end game. Sometimes, I even get it so Rydia has Nuke when she comes back against Golbez.
Not 100% on 5he mechanics, but it's close to this.
Correct in the case of FF5 the last party member joins at the same lv Galuf is at for Krile but yes if you have Paladin Cecil at lv 99 only Kain Yang and Rosa would be at lv 99 Rydia would actually ONLY be at like lv 95 or lv 96 though.
Thanks for the clarification. It's been awhile since I played the GBA version that I couldn't remember fully.
@@gzsproutYep, I did this as recently as the PSP version, and based on the suggestion that the Summoner that calls dolls repeatedly in the Tower of Zot is even better.
It’s in the room right near the Magus Sisters, and you’ll see an immediate effect in Rosa and Kain when they join.
You can also set the battle speed to 1, ensuring that the summoner will always have a new target for each turn Cecil gets to kill each summoned doll.
Respect to your grind ser
I didnt know you could fight tougher enemies above mt ordeals, that would have sped up the leveling so many times!!!
Glad you mentioned the subscription thing. I 100% was subscribed at one point, I thought. Fixed that
That's some ungodly amount of grinding there. Impressive work man.
I have done the pre-rydia goblin/cockatrice grind before. Not my favorite but not the worst grind.
So much work for characters that ultimately leave the party, never to return....
Would've been nice if something carried over when Cecil becomes a paladin. Maybe like a % of your stats gets added on, so all that leveling you do wasn't a waste. Yes, I leveled my Cecil above 20 prior and yes I was a bit peeved that none of it mattered. Whether level 1 or 99 Paladin Cecil is the same.
This is good timing, after i beat Kefka's arse in 6, this one is next on my list.
Cecil is my favorite FF protagonist.
This really is only worthwhile in the GBA version of the game since Palom, Porom, Yang, Cid, and Edward are all playable by the end of the game. A feature I wish was in more of the remakes. >_>
That is insane, but now I want to replay and get those apples for myself…
Can't wait for FF MMO overpowered series
I loved how buff Cecil was and everyone dropped like flies to that I forget the name (I always called it the Swoon Sword - got from King Fabul), I always wondered how it would go for him to carry on getting stronger.
Crazy hitting 99 that fast in the game.
I did that back in the day in Phantasy Star 2, with Nei, leveled her to the point she could win the against, NeiFirst I think it was. I won, and she died anyway. lol
I have been since I was a kid I would grind just Cecil after he becomes a paladin to get him to level 50 before I go to Baron and do that part after I could just beat the game because everyone besides Edge joins around Cecil's level. Ooooor you can go to Eblen and grind Cecil up to 99 by himself and have everyone join again besides Edge at 99. Just something I found as a kid and did with my brother.
Playing FFIV, this one always wished you could keep DK Cecil or get someone else to use the Dark Knight class. Always just really liked it and wish it came back more often.(also we all have that inner edgelord and it's important to give them enrichment activities)
Wow, okay, every minute of his video felt like I learned something new about FF4. xD
What a Worktime for just a 10min Video. Your a Legend.
This one could use a follow-up video where you keep the game going to see exactly how pointless this grinding was, possibly by doing no (or as little as possible) further grinding and trying to complete the game, beat the superbosses, etc.
Level reset feels bad here, but amazing work anyway.
Great job!
I was waiting forever for this video. I love ff4. Thank you !!!
I remember as a kid, my best friend made a random game genie code that actually worked, giving him 60K xp from each character he fought, plus getting the best dropa from any character. Cecil was level 99 within 20 mins or less.
I just wish ge wrote the code down. It was so good. It had the added benefit of giving multiple pink tails. 😢 Really wish he wrote that code down.
crazy amount of time for this. Kudos
Nice! How about an overpowered series where it is about how powerful you can get full stop? End game overpowered.
Just finished this game for the first time the other day. Great timing!
:)
Your dedication to the grind is heroic my guy ,i always look foward to the op videos especially. Ps i was looking for an Xperia phone case on your merch store but couldn't find one do you perhaps have a link ?😁
im afraid we dont do experia :(
The King of the Grind returns! ALL HAIL! 😎👍
i never left :(
@@Primalliquid92
True, but get to show off that crown a bit more through the overpowered series😊
As usual, this is totally crazy, great job dude.
God you’re insane, and I love you for it
i can picture daph in the background getting her knives ready every time a dragon is killed LUL
daph wouldnt hurt me... much
@@Primalliquid92 yea keep thinking that, i'll know what happened if you suddenly disappered 🤣
On SNES back around 1996, I got Rydia up to Lv. 73 before the Leviatan attack. Once she gets "Virus" (around Lv. 36 I think) she can smash everything in one turn. It took me close to a year, since I actually had a life at that point lol
Virus is at level 26 :). It's the best spell for nearly the entire game for how fast it casts and how strong it is.
ah man, always loved it (not really) when rpg devs make it seem like your characters would be staying or would keep their stats so you do a grind session only to realize you wasted a big amount of time as it was literally right before something would happen to said characters lol.
At least it was a fun experiment to see what was possible, hard to believe there a early stat increasing item, even if its just only HP.
You’re a madman. That’s why I follow you
wonderful as always
Thank you so much 😀
The GBA version of FF4 added so much to this game, hated after the DS version there was no end game dungeon with celestial weapons as due to that it also allowed you to select EVERY character but tellah to use against the final boss and final dungeons making a more interesting end game experience.
Mostly due to phone ports being a cash grab from the once and briefly great SE
Love the vids, man! Thanks for making some great FF content!
Yes, it was worth a Like and a Comment 😉
These crazy op videos never get old.
Lets get Primal!!
The greatest FF player of them all
Ok, as this was my first FF ill sub.
The IV 3d remake is so good
Wow, i like a good grind. But you sir, are the OP OG. It amazing what you can do with these games.
Glad you like them!
Also, I request you do the Final fantasy mystic quest 9000 GP grind( money) to buy the Elixer :) I don’t know what actually happens
Primal's suffering is our entertainment cruel world thanks primal for another awesome video ma dude
Great video from the grind lord!!
Appreciate it
I believe Rosa stays 99. I honestly don't remember if Rydia does since she get's a new character model. Cecil only resets to 1 since Paladin Cecil is technically a different character in the games roster.
I played around a ton with this game as a kid with Game Genie lol.
If you want an interesting one to mess with... Dark Knight Cecil and Paladin Cecil are both set to different event flags in the game. So there's a lot you cannot do with Dark Knight. Not sure how they function in the Pixel Remasters compared to the SNES event processing. Miiiight be possible to beat the game as a Dark knight by coding him back into the party in place of the Paladin. Something to maybe look into.
Great video as always, dude!
Rydia would but she's the slowest to lv up so if Paladin Cecil is at lv 99 Adult Rydia would ONLY be like at lv 95 or 96 when she joins permanently.
If your DUMB enough in FF7 to fight the FIRST boss at lv 99 then I believe that in FF7 ALL but Yuffie would first join at lv 99 if BOTH Cloud and Barret are at lv 99 before fighting that first boss the Guard Scorpion.
Yuffie has a MAX lv count of only joining at lv 42 or lv 43.
This grind is really insane lol
All that to get reset to 1.. Gutted
Hi friend I really love your videos I wish someday you can do an overpowered series with my one of my favorite games of all time dragon quest 8 and I know is suicide task I tried but sadly never reached my goal to be at level 99 before Dhoulmagus battle I think is more easy to do it in the 3ds version but I don't own that console
The craziest part is that ff4 introduced specific leveled up stat patterns so you can technically get even higher stats by save scumming before level ups tp get specific patterns. 😂 god that took like 200 hours in the GBA version.
yea im not gonna do that for every character lol
@@Primalliquid92 I know loool
I wish any of the remakes/ports had added a function where Cecil would carryover a potion of his dark knight stats when he became a paladin. Might actually make this grind kind of worth it.
tbh you could just do the leveling grind ect after getting paladin if you wanted
If you are a FF4 lover, try the Ultima mod. It's absolutely fantastic, adds a ton of content, and...there may be dome dark knight powers in there.... 😊
@@Primalliquid92 fair enogh mythgrave makes mt ordeals cake going back down I usually kill off tellah and and the om's and power level Cecil to 30ish.
ITS BACK!!
Keep up the amazing work!!!!
Where do you grind in a normal Playthrough? I thought about the underworld behind the castle, where you can heals without money and all the Inn cinematics.
Props to you for having the discipline to pull these off. Even if I watched other videos or such, I could never actually see myself grinding for that long. I don't really have the patience to grind new members in a Pokemon game, which is why I love gen 6 with its optional exp. share, but I'm getting off topic. My point is I admire your work in these videos. If only TH-cam was as supportive of the hard work and dedication to quality over quantity.
Love your channel!
The best time to grind is immediately after Cecil becomes a paladin as it pays forward down the rest of the game
It will make characters that join up be higher-level. This can be beneficial, but it can also be detrimental as levels gained without stat-boosting equipment don't raise your stats as much. If you leveled to 99 right after getting Paladin Cecil your characters would be much weaker than if you waited until the end of the game to level to 99.
Great vid. thanks!
This is a cool video but when are you going to do one for final fantasy VI I’ve been waiting for that entry for so long
I feel bad for anyone who went crazy grinding with Cecil only to have him reset to 1.
Wow, perfect time. I've just started following your FF4 platinum guide :) too far through to attempt this madness though!
oh i absolutely wouldnt suggest doing this anyway lol
@@Primalliquid92 I absolutely would not. There is FAR too much time put into this effort for me. But I do like to use them to become reasonably powerful early on. A good example is your FF8 OP video. Very useful info on which cards to farm to make powerful magic early on.
I cannot applaud you enough for the time, research, and effort you put into each of these OP videos. They are by far my favourite of the video formats you put out.
Curious but did you do this before or after they added the boost options? If you did it before then sir I have the highest respect for you.
How about some star ocean since so2r is coming out pretty soon? I know star ocean first departure r can be broken pretty early on with item creation and the grind to max level isn't even that bad either if you use that song that spawns an enemy when you leave the menu.
Pretty sure I'd cry if I got a character to lvl 99 just to have them reset to lvl 1.
the insanity continues
you are a mad lad. great video.
i remember when i first time played this game. I brought like 70 or so Potions for the Cecil fight to kill him. xD Took me an Hour. xD
A ff4 Video? Nice 😏 this game is love
Love these videos!
You forgot to level Kain to max before losing him in Mist.... I feel cheated.
Yay ! Another overpowered video !
