      Yes!!! Definitely a job that’s kept on the low! I’m telling you I didn’t know anything about UR until I went in for the interview.

      Mel is it possible to make over 95,000 a year as a UR nurse?

    • @melscorner4598
      @melscorner4598 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maribelblanco1901 l would assume so. Maybe not starting out.. it depends on the company, your location, and experience. I started at 70K with benefits. However for my area it was a good starting point. Especially since I had no experience. Don't forget to negotiate your salary.

    Hi! Do you ever find yourself working longer than 8 hours to complete your work or are there days you are able to finish early?

    Hi! I wanted to ask you where do you do utilization? In the ED? The just offered me a position in ED utilization. I am hoping it will be more relaxed than being on floor. I’m tired of floor nursing. I applied over a year ago but never took it because of some life changes. But now I had a baby and am thinking it will be best for my sanity and stress. What you think. They are also transferring to remote soon. Thank you!

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! Utilization is definitely less stressful than being on the floor. It gives you a better work life balance. I used to work in Utilization with the ED. I liked it because you are still able to use your critical thinking skills. Remote is another plus! Congratulations on your new position as well! I hope that you enjoy it. If you have any more questions definitely let me know 🥰

    Is this a very very busy job, without much down time?

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Utilization can be busy but it depends on how fast you work. I’ve always liked to get my work done early so I had downtime.

    Thank you for showing your day at work. I'm curious is the pay more than bedside nursing? Also, do you need experience to be a Utilization Review nurse? Please let me know thanks.

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes the pay is more then bedside nursing in the state of New Jersey. I can’t speak for other states. You do need at least 2-3 years of acute care nursing experience, strong communication skills, as well as proficient computer skills. You will be dealing with a couple different software applications. I hope this was helpful.

    When you leave work, does work really stay away from home?

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes for the most part. Because I am a supervisor, I will get occasional calls but I can count on 1 hand the number of calls I’ve gotten in a month after work hours.

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations! That’s amazing! It’s a change but I love it because even though I’m not bedside, I still use my critical thinking skills and up to date with the current practice and plan of care for specific diagnosis.

      Utilization Review positions look for nurses with strong clinical backgrounds and the ability to sort through a patients chart to find important information needed for the insurance companies. Strong communication skills is a plus! On your resume include key words that are in the job description. Hope this helps!

    I’m confused. Are you employed by the hospital? & then they have you train half the day and then work in office for the rest if the day? I wanna apply to this type of job but idk what to search for

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Yes I do work in a hospital. My hospital underwent a new EMR system and each department needed a super User. So I was chosen to do so. If you want to work in utilization management, search for jobs as a utilization review nurse or utilization management nurse. If you want to work with EMR systems you should go directly to the system website (cerner, epic, etc) they will always post their job vacancies. I hope this helps! ❤️

      Utilization nurses in my area start off around 87,000 and up. But of course with experience and or transitioning into leadership the salary increases.

    Do u need clinical experience to become a utilization nurse?

    • @dopenursingish
      @dopenursingish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes clinical experience is preferred because you need to know what important clinical information is needed to meet specific inpatient hospital criteria and clinical information the insurance companies are looking for.
