I think a lot of people are bored with the 670, it always seemed under powered an slow for a drag rail. The Ducati isn't a good fit but you should find something with similar power that will work, even if you have to modify the frame a bit, It would be way more interesting to watch.

Yup, build a new rail and keep the old one as-is, it was a good start to a unique idea. Build a new rail with a much more powerful engine in mind from the start. Putting a 900cc engine on a chassis that can barely handle 600cc is a problem just waiting to happen.

(and he's had A LOT of good ones) Maybe use an old Toyota small truck rear diff? It's what they use in Legend (or Dwarf) cars and they seem to hold up to that abuse very well. Plus you'd be able to get different rear diff gear sets from the Legend car aftermarket.

I was thinking a front diff from an IFS 4x4 might even work. Bolt the wheels where the CVs would bolt up (make sure you grab one where the CVs bolt on rather than splining in). Much narrower than a mini-truck rear axle but should still be hell for stout for what you're doing, even if you go for a lighter-duty aluminum-cased unit to save weight. Might need to weld up the vacuum lockout on some models, that wouldn't be hard though.

Your idea is spot on. Build a new rear-engined drag rail with a snowmobile engine. You have learned a lot from your first project which will help you in the new one. And then for the existing rail, put on a new engine and fix any issues with the frame. And of course the same treatment for the ducarti. This way you end up with 3 sick go karts instead of sacrificing 2 to make 1.

    My thoughts:
    - I agree with all of Ike's points; as badass as it would be...why? More 'cons' than 'pros'
    - You would have to re-engineer the ENTIRE chassis of the rail to handle a torque monster 900cc V-twin (or is it an L-twin? lol), there's no way the frame and driveline could handle that. You'd probably have to add a whole rear suspension setup to mitigate the inevitable axle hop, too. And that's still expecting a LOT of the strength of the metal alone. Again, it's just not gonna happen.
    - A smaller bike engine could be more feasible for the rail, like a 500 twin from a Honda CBR500R. I'm planning to put on one a big kart/small buggy that I bought a while ago.
    - As y'all said, a snowmobile engine would be cool to try. It would make things quite a bit easier, too, since the snowmobile already has a belt drive torque converter and jackshaft setup. They come in both air cooled and water cooled varieties and there's tons of options to choose from. Just gotta make room for a parallel twin. A water cooled engine might be a better choice, considering it'll mostly be used in warm weather.
    - One thing to keep in mind with a 2 stroke engine (snowmobile or otherwise) is the exhaust; the exhaust is very specifically designed with an expansion chamber which is required/essential part of the two stroke engine cycle, and it is specifically tuned for the engine. Plenty of good articles on the internet explaining this process. Basically, you'll need to account for a lot of extra room and some bracing/support for the exhaust system.
    - I'd definitely like to see the Ducarti get reinforced and refurbished and keep it's engine. I would also look into adding some bushings to the engine mounts and braces; I don't think having it so rigidly mounted is the best choice. It would definitely make it a bit smoother to operate, too.
    - As far as a powerplant for the rail, I think a new direction would be a welcome change of pace. I know Predator engines are your bread & butter, but I think the people would like to see something different and unique, considering the overwhelming response towards putting the Ducati engine on the drag rail. Obviously, it'll probably take some time to figure something out that actually fits, and as Ike said, building a new, safer, rear-engined chassis for a different engine might be the way to go, and stick with the Predator 670 with the current drag rail, despite the trouble you've had with that engine.

I have a couple KX500'S there good for around 70hp of very reliable screaming 2stroke fun in a stock configuration , and can be turned into big bore monsters. I think stock is impressive enough, will out run the brakes on the bikes is what I tell people and they never understand until they ride one and invariably all will return mumbling "Yes, it will outrun the brakes". I imagine that feeling would be multiplied on said rail cart.
I've thought of a cart for a long while, just hadn't imagined a shifter setup as of yet that wasn't overly sketchy or expensive. Thought of buying a rolling chassis off of eBay but just not familiar at all with carts so haven't taken the plunge. Not sure where you gentlemen are but I probably won't use more than one of the 500's if that's a direction you've considered.
Keep the videos coming guys, I never figured at 50 I'd be watching go cart vids but their just as fun now as they were when I was a wee lad. Definitely more fun than the day I stalled one on top of a yellow jackets nest at about 12 yrs old...

If scoping out snowmobile engines, might be worth looking into rotary powerplants too. Very compact, stupidly rev-happy, and you're likely wanting power more than efficiency. Plus it'd also be something even more different.
As cool as the Ducati swap sounded, Ike's got a very good point of the chassis not being ideal. So yeah, it'd be better to start over from scratch. Just fix the other cart already suited to it, and make it more solid.

1st of all keep the Ducarti. It is a great go kart in its own right just the way it is. When you are delving into a real drag ster driving on a real drag strip with uncertified welds and uncertified technology you may want to think twice. Up until now you've been grabbing many bikes and carts and just throwing engines on them without regard to whether the frames can handle it. I would love to see you build another dragster and Chrome Molly tubing is the way to go, and magna fluxing your welds or liquid dye penetrate the welds to make sure they are sound is something you need to think about. I wanna see you build a new drag ster but remember it's not a kids go card anymore if the thing comes apart on the drag strip it may have devastating consequences besides just breaking. Do Not be like Nike and just do it. Think about how you're going to accomplish it and do lots of research 1st. Once you have done your feasibility study then do it.
