    We have the same Tesla 3 LR, have level 2 in our garage with an existing 30 amp dryer outlet, we hardly use superchargers, in fact we only use superchargers if we drive more than 350 miles in a day on a non round trip journey. It’s so cool waking up to a fully charged car every morning!

      Awesomeness! Totally agree about waking up to a fully charged car (and never having to stop at a gas station like we do with our ICE vehicle). Thanks for your reminder to make this video. Hopefully it’s helpful for others.

    For anyone with an electric vehicle, check with your local electric company to see if they offer any additional incentives. My local energy company just rolled out a new Power Partner program that allows EV users to opt into a program that rewards them with a $50 bill credit for signing up and a $25 bill credit annually for participating. During peak electricity demand (June-September where I am and generally 2-7PM), your charger may slow down or pause charging for up to 4 hours up to 15 days out of the month. If you usually charge your vehicle overnight, it won't even affect you and you get paid. And if you're charging for a trip, you can easily opt out of any of the 4 hour events with no penalty. It's a great program that will help reduce electrical use during peak hours to help avoid brownouts and blackouts when there's too much strain on the system.

    Great Video...We are all Electric as well. Tesla Model Y and EZ Go RXV Lithium Elite. As far as Tesla charging goes the mobile connector using a standard 110 is fine for most people. However we do use the mobile connector on a 50amp 220 volt circuit using a NEMA 14-50 Wall outlet and corresponding adapter. We feel it's the best way to charge at home in The Villages should you need make quick back and forth trips outside the villages. That way you can avoid using the Super Charging network. I think in a perfect world you would install the dedicated Tesla Wall connector in your garage which can go to 60 amp and 240 volts for the fastest home charging experience and you keep your mobile connector with adapters in the car for the times when you may want to plug into somewhere else; a friends house, an AirBNB etc. Glad to see others in The Villages adopting the Electric lifestyle. I look forward to the next video.

    Great video! We charged our 2020 Model Y on a 120 volt outlet in our garage for 2 years. Like you we never had any issue with that set up. But I decided to get a Tesla Wall Connector at Best Buy and had an electrician install it on a dedicated 60 circuit. VERY fast charging! There is a federal income tax credit of 30% of the cost to purchase and install an EV charger, up to a limit of $1,000.

    Although the 30 amp on a regular dryer plug works, it is dangerous. It generates a lot of heat and is prone to catching fire. Use the Hubell brand Nemo 450 plug. It looks exactly like the regular dryer plug but is much more robust. Look at some of the TH-cam videos that show some examples of the heat created with the standard plugs. Just want you to be safe.

    Thanks for sharing this! I was one of the people that asked you Tesla questions, so thanks so much for posting a video about it! I'm now owned my Tesla MYLR for about 6 months, and have also learned that important lesson that you shared - that availability of Superchargers is irrelevant for most people as most people charge them at home. Like you, the only time I've used a Supercharger is on road trips. I was very surprised on how accurate the Tesla estimates are for expected battery level at each destination - it's usually right on the mark, or (if anything) you end up with slightly more than what it shows. I do wish it allowed you to select preferred Tesla stops for Supercharging, as some are definitely better than others.
    We installed a Wall Connector at our home in TV and (so far anyway) feel like it was worth it. We used the company that wired our house to install it, to help reduce the risk of warranty issues later. They did a nice clean install, and were able to hide the wiring in the walls so no need for conduit. We had the work done concurrently with install of some Ring cameras and ceiling fans, so not sure what the specific cost was just for the charger. I will say that the estimates we got for just the charger install at our old house (in the DC area) was around $900, so I would expect it to be less in TV. Also would recommend adjusting your garage door travel to allow you to string the cable under the door, in case you ever want to park it outside. Thanks again!

      Agree. My previous electric car I had for three years and probably used fast charging stations about four times. My current car has free charging for two years so I use it more than before but it's still mostly unnecessary. My last trip up to Canada (about 1,000 miles round trip) cost about $4.00 in electricity since there was a level 2 charger in the hotel's garage and it was free in the U.S.

    We have a Tesla Model 3 long range too and will be driving it from upstate NY to Moultrie Creek for our closing next week. Our plan is to do 110 charging since we have done that for a few years here. Plugging in and unplugging the charger over time in the same outlet may loosen the outlet connections which could pose a fire risk. Keeping the charger plugged into the outlet is safer. If not, check the outlet connections periodically.

    As an FYI, if you have a Tesla Model 3 with the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, Tesla actually encourages and recommends charging those to 100% on a weekly basis. So even though it's a smaller battery than the long range, the regularly usable battery amount is fairly close. If you don't have a long commute or regularly road trip long distances, it's something to consider when looking at the different models.

      We have a 2022 Long Range All-Wheel drive with a different battery type.
      The great thing about Tesla is that they let you know (on both the App and the onscreen display) exactly how much you should charge your battery for daily driving based on your car.
      Love that my phone (and the app) is my virtual car key with a lot of helpful features.

      Thanks! Glad it was helpful! Yes we measured both the golf cart garage and the golf cart before we had it delivered to make sure it would fit. We don’t have enough room for 2 golf carts at our current home (unless we park the car in the driveway). We could park 2 golf carts in our regular garage and then convert the golf cart garage into storage or an office or a studio (would have to install a mini split AC unit if we do that). But… we may move to a Designer Home or Courtyard Villa with a 2 car garage and separate golf cart garage (someday).

    That plug for the golf cart, is it the same as the one for Tesla? What is known as “NACS”?

      The end looks similar but it is different than the Tesla cable. It’s a standard ST-031016-PT charging cable for most EV Golf Carts. 16A-110V~220V

    Always hear the Tesla Batteries are guaranteed for 100,000 miles! After that I have heard the replacement with installation can be up to 16 thousand dollars! Anyone have the battery replacement costs yet?

    Our son had a Tesla in California and got a quote to install a 50 amp outlet/breaker in his garage to charge it. The quote was $2500. So then he called a different electrician and ask for a quote to install a 50 amp for an electric dryer. The quote was $1200. , definitely electrical installation companies are taking a Hugh advantage of this. Just an FYI.

    Really, it has to be hot in the garages, does that not take away from the batteries?

    So did you say for one hour on your charge only gives you 4 miles range? So 10 hours charge on 110 = 40 miles?

    • @MichaelTiffanyTVE
      @MichaelTiffanyTVE  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Correct. But when you only drive 20 to 50 miles per day on average in TV it’s no problem to just use the regular 110 outlet. We plug it up every time we get home (no matter if we only go 2 miles, 20 miles or 50+ miles). It always back to 80% in a couple of hours or definitely by the next morning. We will pre charge between 90% to 100% if we know are going to go on a long trip.

    Did I understand you to say it takes about an hour charging for 5 miles? I am interested in an electric vehicle but for me that is not feasible. I hope I just misunderstood you. Thanks for another great video!

      That's only if you charge on a regular 110 outlet. If you have the ability to install a 220v outlet, it's about 25 miles per hour. A supercharger stop while road tripping is 20-30 minutes. By the time you stop for a bathroom break and grab a coffee, the car is ready to go again.

      Absolutely! Plus we like to get out and stretch our legs every 100 to 200 miles on long road trips. Thanks!

    Garages are very small in the villages

    • @MichaelTiffanyTVE
      @MichaelTiffanyTVE  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are larger homes with much larger 2, 3 and even 4 car garages and a golf cart garage. Lots of different styles and floor plans to choose from here at TV.
