Do you guys believe there is any truth to these conspiracies? Or is it all hogwash and we just need to be patient?
This video is simply for the sake of discussion and keeping the games in the public eye.
Keep in mind I will be BUYING BOTH Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle! I am extremely excited and I am just providing a forum for us all to converse and talk about the games. These are my honest thoughts and real opinions. Somebody has to do it for the community.

No, there are team members who are/have worked on both projects. There's no bad blood between them. Also Konami and Muriyama parted ways amicably, and from what both parties have said their relationship was professional and courteous.
I have a feeling it was more that the project was announced far too early in development, we have only been shown a handful of nostalgia or pretty areas. If they are rebuilding the games in the unity engine as some people suspect then bugs would crop up.

    • @Grayald
      @Grayald ปีที่แล้ว +4

I think the most obvious and simple explanation is the correct one. Konami saw all the hype and success being generated by EC and then realized they could make some money. So they went "hey! We still make games! Remember Suikoden? You should buy it!"
No conspiracy or anything particularly interesting. They're just hoping to slipstream.

If the two companies were working together to share exposure they would just come out and say it, it wouldn't be some secret conspiracy. It's WAY more likely that Konami is trying to divert interest from Eiyuden Chronicle by releasing Suikoden around the same time, hoping that people who don't have enough money for both will choose the series they have nostalgia for instead of taking a risk on something new.

That's my take too. It really shocked me to run into see large groups on the internet who insisting they choose Suikoden to Eiyuden. I'm not sure if it's brand loyalty or they just don't know that it's largely the original creators making Eiyuden, and that the revived interest is only due to their risks and hard work... but the fact that those folks do exist indicates a plausible reason why Konami thinks they can profit from stealing Eiyuden's thunder. Really, for fans the best thing is for both of them to succeed, so hope my guess is wrong...

So here is some facts, Do know that Yosh is really good friends with the Director of the HD remaster of Suikoden. and Yosh has not hidden the fact that he been helping a little bit with his friend. But Yosh is not working with Konami or HD Remaster's. Another fact Yosh asked for the IP back from Konami, and they said no. He even tried to see if he could even try to lay in easter eggs, but they said no also. So Konami is kinda being petty, but Yosh is not holding a grudge so he support the release. He stated it will in the long run get peeps to remember his old games/story; and later come and get EC:HH

Could just be Junko Kawano who is doing the art for both games not keeping up or being sick which delays both games or simply prioritizing Eiyuden first before finishing the Suikoden remasters so they have to wait for her to finish Eiyuden.
But Konami as shown many times that they are a trash company and trusting them is just hard for most people. Its definitely not a coincidence that the remaster is anounced after the success of the Eiyuden kickstarter, like any greedy company, they saw the interest was there, they saw an easy cash grab.
As for a Suikoden 6 possibility, that will not happen, we are talking about Konami here ruled by pachinko overlords who mistreats and makes their game devs run away. They are prolly gonna milk Suikoden 3-4-5 remasters if the sales are good. At best you might get another Tierkreis/The Woven Web of a Century. Even if they did make a Suikoden 6 they would put so little effort you would have wished they stopped at 5.

Thats too positive lol. The team already left konami, while konami keeps the ownership of suikoden while the creator lost it. Konami will do anything to killed the new product of their old suikoden teams for leaving the company. Because konami knows they cant create a new suikoden because the creator and the brain behind it, leave them. What they can is only remastering the old ones and cancelling the new one from the creator.

@kali-qgames1301 Konami has made it fairly clear that they have very limited remaining interest in the video game industry. On the plus side, it also means they are very relaxed when it comes to fan made titles. It also means that the possibility of collaboration behind the scenes is not a far-fetched idea. Konami is in sort of an "anything goes" mood right now.

  • @Kilocron

Fans have BEGGED Konami for years and years for them to make more Suikoden. I do think Eiyuden lit a fire under Konami. When they took in 5 Mil on Kickstarter, it gave Konami a true wake up call of "Oh damn, they really will pay for more Suikoden." It took them SO LONG to even get Suikoden II on the old PS3 Store where Suikoden 1 was on there for years. And for that, it takes very little effort on their part yet they still delayed it so long.
R+B lit a fire under Konami, of this I have no doubt. They likely want to both cash-in and hurt R+B by releasing the remasters at the same time. Also, I think there was probably some truth to the 2023 scheduling stuff... They probably would have released the remasters in a more buggy mess if EC came out this year, to compete. But since they delayed, Konami decided to delay too so they could polish it some more. It's about time though, Konami finally doing something with Suikoden. It's been a damn shame that it just simply sat.
I know I was sick of it, and apparently 5 Million dollars worth of fans were tired of it to... I do with they would bring in Miki Higashino to make the soundtrack for EC. But, can't have everything.

With regards to the Eiyuden delay I think you hit the nail on the head with your first point. Crowdfunded games by smaller studios get delayed regularly and they probably just underestimated the time needed to finish it.
My opinion on the Suiko delay is that they probably were never going to hit that original 2023 date. I think they probably rushed the trailer out to capitalize on the hype despite not having much the game completed. I don't think it was pushed back specifically because Eiyuden was, I just think they never had plans on having it finished by 2023.
You're definitely right about Suiko remaster owing it's existence to Eiyuden though. I just don't think it's petty or spiteful. Game companies love to ignore fans asking for the revival of beloved franchises because they need to know beforehand whether it'll be financially beneficial. Eiyuden smashing all of their goals was probably the push they needed in order to see that yes, there is still an actual market for these games.
Not to mention I would assume both companies would want the other to do well just because the success of one game would mean that people will be wanting more of a similar experience. If Eiyuden is successful then new fans will probably be more willing to try out Suikoden and vice versa. But on the flipside modern Konami kinda sucks and I wouldn't totally dismiss claims that they're just being greedy.
As always thanks for the Suikoden content! Best JRPG ever!

I wouldn't say that the Suikoden remasters only are happening because of Eiyuden Chronicles. Im sure the other remasters have some hand in it. Seems like its been jump started by Octopath Traveler, since several remasters are based on its look and style.
Eiyuden Chronicles is now available to pre-order digitally, so I'm surprised Konami hasnt responded in kind yet.
That said, I hope both do fantastically well! And I really do hope that the entire Suikoden series gets a remaster including the Gaidens and Web of a Woven Century or whatever Konami wants to call it. And hopefully a new game, that manages to tie in the DS and PSP games.

I don't think the companies are conspiring together. But at the same time I don't think that Konami is trying to undermine RabbitBear. There is a third option: Konami is hoping to piggy back off the success of Eiyuden to sell remasters of Suikoden. For years Konami has ignored the property of Suikoden but Eiyuden's kickstarter success has shown that folks are interested. They actually can't undermine Eiyuden's success because just about all that kickstarter money is already units sold. So there is no point to try and "steal attention." Instead I think they are now trying to cater to a customer base they didn't realize they had. Releasing the remasters near Eiyuden increases the chances of those who already kickstarted Eiyuden (we've already paid long ago) throwing some funds to the remaster. They are trying to release during peak interest and if Eiyuden can get enough folks to buy Suikoden remasters there is probably a chance Konami will commit a studio to resuming the series. But the suits leading this gambit need success on this remaster sale for everything to proceed.
If the goal was to somehow undermine Eiyuden then their goal would be to not only get a remaster out before Eiyuden but to evaluate its success as quickly as possible to possibly tease a new entry to the series around or before the release of Eiyuden. And for any of that to really undermine Eiyuden means it would have had to happen during the kickstarter campaign as a means to divert money from RabbitBear to Konami.
If they were working together, like you said, it would actually be more beneficial to both to be public about it.

I 100% think Konami is doing it because of EC. Including the delay.
I love Suikoden! But this game looks far better. Of course nothing will ever top S2 story telling and characters for me.
Suikoden should be either remade/have added side quests, characters and more features. They should just jam pack it. Even have a creature capture mode or something. Just load it up. Give us the original game. But add more more more more. Suikoden is a masterpiece that just wasn't promoted enough. I stumbled accross is in a video rental store and got obsessed. If it weren't for that I would have never known about this work of art.

Konami asked the character artist (who also is the artist for Eiyuden) to come and work on the pixel art for the original characters for the remaster. As far as I know, they are working together in a good relationship with Konami. I have a feeling the character pixel art may be slightly improved during this delay. Suikoden rerelease would make rabbit&bear feel proud to have their work still out there and loved. It makes sense they would work together and both benefit from the hype.

Further, Konami may realize things they thought weren't working anymore could work again. After Suikoden 3, they really lost their magic. I think Konami made a mistake. Now they have to up the ante and make sure the remaster collection is super polished and has lots of QoL improvements. If not, they just made Eiyuden the go-to series instead of a spiritual successor. I don't think Konami thought Eiyuden was going to be this good

I wouldn't be surprised if it's either one. I don't put it past them to be working together because they both would benefit from the double coverage. Although that's just my guess but I think there's a potential good outcome in the long haul because we potentially have two series giving us games. Even though I don't fully trust Konami, if the remaster performs well and Konami sees a future in the series, then that would be great. Although it's very possible somebody at Konami is doing this out of spite.. The MUCH more likely possibility is that they're just riding on the coattails of the success of the Kickstarter. The game industry as a whole does this time and time again. When a game goes HUGE, developers start making similar games.

  • @Varizen87
    @Varizen87 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Konami has a long history of being petty. Look at Baldur's Gate 3 vs. Starfield. It's a Thunder Stealing tactic. It's a bigger company trying to stifle a smaller one. People only have a limited amount of time and money. It doesn't make sense to release close together because they'll cannibalize each other's sales. Konami loves to spite their talent especially when they leave. They haven't changed since what happened with Kojima.
You're right that the Kickstarter is the only reason the Remasters exist. And as for Konami liking money... they left the gaming market to pursue Pachinko machines and Mobile because that's where the money was in their eyes. They saw there was money in those RPGs and wanted to capitalize on it with minimal investment.

Konami is being opportunistic. Maybe they don't have any spite. They just want to capitalize the exposure that is generated by Eiyuden. I'm not sure conspiring with Konami gives added value for Murayama.
It's just that after seeing the success of the Kickstarter, Konami realized that the Suikoden fans are actually for real want to play Suikoden games. Suikoden fans have been begging for years to Konami to at least port the old games to modern consoles & PC. The fans also begged to Murayama, the original creator of Suikoden, but since he is not in Konami anymore & the Suikoden IP is owned by Konami, he cannot revive the series even if he wanted to. Finally, he, with other game developers, including who were in the original Suikoden team found a way with Kickstarter, that have brought other classic games revival.
Now looking at the money raised in Kickstarter, Konami has finally been convinced that it is worth to invest in the series. Yeah, after several years begging, they just don't care but when there's money they are suddenly excited bringing Suikoden back. I'm not sure I'm happy with Konami move though. We'll see. But certainly, I will support Murayama team's works.

But I will support The Eiyuden Chronicle - Hundred Heros more. Reason being they actually making a complete new game, story, heros. Staying true to the old play style but adding new effects and dimension to the game aswell. It all depends atmosphere and storyline on how they portrait this game now. My favourite Suikoden games were 1,2 and 5. Mainly the play style and rich amazing storyline (Emotions in these series all have : Humour, sadness, joy and pain and multiply Endings).
IF Eiyuden Chronicle - Hundred Heros can produce a game like that. I rather support and buy this game first rather then a remake of Suidoken 1,2.
To ensure they have the success and carry on producing more game series like this. Rather than Konami just touching up a game and reselling it because they too lazy, greedy and salty to produce something new.

Well... who knows, maybe your first theory is the one what's happening. Unlike Kojima and IGA, Murayama never had bad blood with Konami, left before the whole controversy erupted (or heck, when Konami started losing steam in PS2 in anywhere that's not Metal Gear...). So, it's possible that Konami approved Rabbit & Bear putting the 'Kick Me' label behind their backs.
And seeing that Suikoden held less influence compared to Metal Gear, of course I think Konami would want to focus on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and the MGS collections first if they want to restore reputation. Though... I personally think it's not doing good. Not that I dislike Konami, but these days, the easiest path is to just frame everything to be like 'Konami is the bad guy' (Like the 2nd theory). And honestly, I think that theory is being petty as heck. Keeping hatred for so long and never moving on or giving a chance is never good and it's only making us look even uglier than what Konami did (Yeah, it was bad they did those things, but we need to learn to move on and heal up from the damage with time).
So, I'm never gonna trust all who just keep yapping about bad bad Konami and how it's not moral to support them based on moral principles (because seriously, if that's just being pushed on to us, the meaning is lost. Screw that, in that case). But even so... I will take both Eiyuden and Suikoden remasters. I love JRPG, Suikoden holds a good memory on me, and I'm doing this not because I'm being 'held hostage' by nostalgia (and heck, I can just throw that back against the detractors, saying that they're being held hostage with their emotions and obsession to swing the hammer of karma on people they don't like... it's getting scarily like a rabid angry mob...), but because I do what I do as a gamer in the face of things that interest me or hold a good memory.
So, I'll see what's going to happen soon. And yes, I am prepared for any events of any of those two getting cancelled for reasons... and I'm not even going to be mad. I'm done with this company hating, I'm just gonna focus on what I love. And JRPG and Suikoden are one of those. Failing that, there's a lot more to keep me from being all angry.

I believe you're over thinking it personally. Konami was happy making money off pachinko for many years. With the success of the EC kickstarter it became evident there was money to be made with suikoden. I don't know about others but there's no competition here for me. I'll get them both.

We'll most of these theories aren't personally mines. I was just stating the majority of thoughts I've been seeing around the net.
As for me personally, I clearly see Konami just taking the opportunity by the horns. Which is okay, but I'm still not a fan of Konami.

@@kali-qgames1301 yes either way it's a win for players. If I have any concerns it would be the price point for Suikoden 1 & 2. $40 being the preferred high point. Anything higher is too much even for those two great games. I don't feel they're doing enough to justify top dollar.

I think Konami is trying to sabotage a game that I can garuntee is going to be overhyped and underdeliver knowing my experience with games that break away from human-sue syndrome. I desperately want to see more games, especially RPGs, with some actual non-human characters, and we saw that with Chained Echoes and teeeeechnically Sea of Stars (even though that game's nonhuman kinda sucks) but I do not have much faith in Eiudyen Chronicles. Every game I look forward to ends up being trash.

I do not understand the reason behind ANY remaster.... there is no additional story line, there is no additional content beside a graphic upgrade ? There are so many untold story in Suikoden, so much more content that you can farm it out, but nal, take the easy way out, HD it -.- who cares... Konami... who cares. we stop caring the moment you stop giving Suikoden 6 any hope and please... if you are not able to make a good Suikoden 6 of a continuous of the original story and plot, don't do it, we are disappointed enough.
