It's a powerful statement that Thanos with all his power doesn't use it to force Death to love him. This means that even Thanos knows how wrong it is to force himself on a woman. Let that sink in.

motwaaagh Thanos's whole desire was for Death to love him and simply mind controlling her to wouldn't be that, just a simulation of his own making, so either he purposefully or subconsciously prevented himself. We have found the one thing more powerful than omnipotence.....

Wait, so Infinity Gauntlet can pretty much be summed up with Thanos wanted to impress and girl and thus decided to commit genocide. So basically the power of boners is the strongest power of them all. Good to know.

Undoing One More Day is easy. Just make Assistant Editor's Month canonical and return the Power Cosmic to Aunt May where it belongs. For that matter, give her back the Captain Universe powers while you're at it. Oh no, Aunt May's been shot by a gunman - who she then drags into low orbit, gives a severe scolding to, and delivers to the local police station with orders to confess his naughtiness. And then she goes off to have a stern word with Wilson Fisk.

Considering that Avengers: Infinity War is coming out next year, if they do split it into two parts (guessing the second would be Infinity Gauntlet) I think they should end the first half on a massive cliffhanger with Thanos getting all six stones, snap his finger, show half of all life in the universe die and show the Avengers with stunned / horrified looks on their faces at what they just witnessed and have it fade to the credits.

The reason Thanos got the gems so easily is the Elders, who had them, didn't really know what they had. Up until that point they were ALL referred to as Soul Gems. Even Thanos called them that in a previous storyline where he collected them. They were powerful, but no one really know how powerful. Each of the Elders tapped into the power to basically enhance their own, like a battery.
It was only at the time of Thanos Quest that he realized what they were and how powerful they were. Since he knew what he was dealing with and the Elders didn't, he was able to take them.

  • @JohnnyElRed
    @JohnnyElRed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +60

The reason Warlock exists outside the natural laws of the universe, is because of Magus, his evil self of the future. Since Thanos is the champion of Death, Life (that I don't understand how she hasn't had her own personification in the Marvel Universe) needed one too. But Warlock wasn't powerful enough. So, in the laws of the universe, it was written that thanks to the Magus, Warlock was going to be sent into a traumatic travel through dimmensions in order to transform into the Magus, and reappear again in his native universe but in the past, creating a church of religious zealots that, even evil, was about holding life dear. Besides all the killing of heretics.
Magus was powerful enough to face Thanos when the time was needed, but seemed the destiny of Warlock becoming Magus was completly unavoidable. So Thanos raised Gamora with the only intent of killing Magus, but failed. In his other plan, he made a deal with Warlock, and sent him in a metaphorical dimension where all his posible destinies where physical paths in the ground, and purged the one where he became the Magus. But that wasn't enough. He then needed to travel to the shorter one of this paths, or so, the one where he was going to die the sooner, and find himself at the end of his life after a confrontation with Thanos, and capture the soul of his future self on his soul gem, before turning back to his time. This death eventually appeared within the comics, and was the death from he resurrected in this event comic.
So, yeah. He is out of the natural laws of the universe, because thanks to Thanos, he was able to avoid the unmutable laws of destiny, and not become the Magus. He shouldn't exist as Warlock.
Oddly to say, apparently Warlock is Thanos only friend as their status now.

Brandon Lyon Bad writing. It's a night-and-day difference between how good Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was and how bad Avengers Assemble is which replaced EMH. It basically went from being its own thing with more-or-less faithfully adapting a lot of things from the comics with some inspiration from the MCU (although not to the point where it feels cheap) to just being a movie cash-in cartoon strictly for kids and to sell merchandise.

Doctor Doom is one of those villains who would be willing to save the world...just as long as the other heroes grovel at his feet first. He loves to have his already gargantuan ego fuelled, and is fine to work with his enemies to keep that fuel coming. There are exceptions of course, as Doom is far from a fool, and will work with enemies to save the world if a world-ending threat pops in uninvited.
That's the other thing about Doom; he sees everything he does as just, seeing every action of his a means to an end that will make the Earth pure...in his eyes, at least.

It just occured to me that a possible reason for why Death still refuses to talk to Thanos is because of HOW he completed his task. He made the people and animals disappear, like they never existed in the first place, except remembered by those left behind. That does not look like "killing" to me. Plus, Death has zombies as her servants apparently, so one may speculate that she wanted actual killing, with actual bodies left behind. Instead she got a situation like a girlfriend asking her boyfriend to clean up the carpet, and the bf throwing it out into the thrash.

I felt that he did a great job, I agree with most of his critiques in regard to each event, especially flashpoint, and that all the events he covered were entertaining. After all, "Crisis On infinite Earths", "Secret Wars", and "The Infinity Gauntlet" are all great epic classics that deserve to be spotlighted, even by a show that's mostly known for dealing with bad comics.

See, I always liked this form of Thanos more than the MCU one. I like that Thanos's entire deal is that he is driven by love and wants to have an equal partnership with a woman he loves. The idea that he thinks he's not good enough for her and has to keep one upping himself, and Mephisto's prodding and such as the devil on his shoulder works well. To me it's a very emotional, grounded thing. While it isn't logical per se, it makes that emotional sense of: "Who hasn't done something over the top for love?".
By trying to strip away that aspect they made the character make a lot less sense to me. It opens me up to asking questions about the logistics and logic of the character and their motivation that I never actually asked during Infinity Gauntlet. I never asked things like: "Wait... it doesn't make sense that more things are alive than have ever died" while reading it. Because it wasn't really a big plot point. It's importance was "Once Death said something bugged them so I'll handle it to get in her good graces!". It's a very... domestic normal thing behind the "Snap" in the Comics. Like hearing your spouse complain about the rodent menace that is ruining their flower bed so you get a BB gun to drive them off. Or complaining about how shabby the yard looks so you get tools to edge the lawn and make it look nice and landscaped properly. Very normal dynamics, that are put into the realm of the God Like Power. Very... Greek Mythology as it were. Where the Gods and legendary heroes were very "Normal" in their feelings, motivations, and such. The actions however are different due to their scale.
I can get why people read different things in it. And people who hadn't read the event just hear: "Thanos got the gems to get a shot at female personification of Death" and kind of thing it's more... squicky or "I treated death as my personal property that I own" or something. Because that was the reaction I usually got from people when I started telling them of the original Infinity Gauntlet and its plot.
But this really is a classic to me and how I see cosmic scale stuff done right. The powers are amazing and beyond most figures in the story... but the motivations, the driving efforts, the way characters play off each other? It's the stuff of everyday life. They are entities beyond space and time as we know it... and they want the same things that Joe Smith from Cleveland wants. It appeals to me.

PikaTheProsperous It's actually one of the more interesting and subtle things that they play with in comics. Think about what it means to truly love death. Think about what it means to be spurned and rejected by Death. Much of the Marvel Cosmic stuff spins around fascinating little tidbits like that. And it does spill over into the movies. Note "to challenge them is to court Death". Not to mention Gamora's recent observation to Nebula that she does not think Thanos can actually be killed.
I'm glad Linkara is exploring some of Marvel's cosmic stuff. This is one area that they do always seem to do better than D.C. Yeah the Green Lanterns are great. But D.C. Always seems to lack a bit in cosmic scale and scope. It's generally "superheroes in space" and lacks the grander scale that Marvel threw at the cosmic stuff since the early days of the FF.

It annoys me that so many think that Thanos' right armored glove is inherently special. It could just as easily been the Infinity Belt or Infinity Helmet. If he were in to that kind of thing they could have been the Infinity Piercings.
Proof of how *not* special it is: note the pictures after Nebula took the Gauntlet - how Thanos is still wearing a gauntlet on his right hand, identical to the one on his left. If it were a unique item, he couldn't have replaced it.

    22:28
    "Including the giant head there."
Head: "Show me what you got!!!!!"
I could imagine Thanos reacting to that request.
    "Then I'll gladly show you!"

This is a story where Mephisto is a decent element. He doesn’t ruin it. Basically keep him away from Spider-Man and more around Thanos.

Very interesting watching this video after Infinity War/Endgame. I like seeing what they adapted, and what they at least referenced since they didn't have all the same assets for the film. I still think they should have kept Death's love as a motivation for Thanos in some fashion. Would have made more sense than what we got.

Starlin did have this habit of making his own characters way more important than else in the Infinity crossovers.

I've always wondered how death and time travel play into the same universe. It's established that souls, heaven, and hell all exist in this universe(and in most other universes involving time travel), so if someone dies and goes to one of those places, then the situation is reversed so they're still alive, then does God or Satan or whoever just go "Oh, never mind. You never actually died. Back you go." And what of these people who were alive but then died due to a change in the timeline. Are they aware of their previous death or do they show up wherever they were sent going "Wait, what just happened?" Or is there some sort of cosmic holding cell, where souls are sent until it's confirmed which timeline is the real one? Or does time travel actually transport the user into a parallel universe that follows their consequences, though they technically never actually caused them, and traveling back and reverting everything back to normal is some sort of "cosmic key" to unlock the path back to their universe(or a very similar universe with some changes due to their very presence in the past altering the future), and each universe has its own version of someone with their own soul, their own heaven and hell, and their own God and Satan? And does this negate free will, as everything would have to take the EXACT SAME path up to a point?
If you think about it, Doc Brown's warning that a major time paradox could destroy the entire universe should trigger the second someone starts their time traveling.

If you can get them, I'd highly recommend reading the Silver Surfer issues prior to reading Infinity Gauntlet. It reintroduced a lot of these characters and concepts and explained them. Really Infinity Gauntlet is the wrap up to that Silver Surfer storyline, not a crossover in and of itself. Surfer even went inside the Soul Gem and met Warlock, Pip, and Gamora so you didn't have to go back and read the original Warlock series. As Linkara stated, Thanos and Warlock had been dead for well over a decade. They'd only appeared in reprints and Thanos' soul appeared in The Death of Captain Marvel.

Wait, but Death only told Thanos to wipe out half the *sentient* population of the universe. Why'd he kill half of all non-sentients, too?! Guess he just wanted to be thorough...

You'd think the guy with the claws that he routinely uses to cut through steel doors would aim for Thanos's LEFT ARM and not his CHEST!!

Well, the movie has at least this much going for it: they actually had the stones (heh) to kill off important people with the snap heard 'round the universe. This book, I don't even think any SUPPORTING CHARACTERS got dusted.

So, something I thought another commenter would post but didn't so here I am to say it, Deadpool was not married when the stuff with Death and Thanos originally went down. Shiklah was introduced and became DPs wife in 2014 whereas DP and death were a thing before that. The only time he was married during an instance with death was the 2015 mini Deadpool vs Thanos where the brush with death and Thanos resulting in the immortality curse was way back in 2002 in the "funeral for a freak" storyline

After reading as much as I can from the comics and the history of marvel, seeing the trailer and learning some story details, it appears that avengers infinity war is not just specifically adapting this story but rather the "Infinity" arc from a few years ago AND Infinity Gauntlet.

This epic story with so many heroes and grand scale... is at heart a love story about a guy trying to impress his love.
That is awesome. I think it gives it a very personal touch among the bigness.
Eternity is weird? More like AWESOME!
Seeing Thanos killing all the heroes is honestly kind of scary. Wolverine's death really disturbed me to.
Wonder if Nebula will defeat Thanos in the same way in the movie.
    Deadpool x Death forever!
This looks like a great comic, I gotta check this out! I hope Infinity War will be awesome as well.

7:01 I just realized that one of Mephisto's lines in this opening speech is "My humble personage bows before your grandeur", a line that the Ebony Maw quoted word for word when Thanos adds the Space Stone to the Infinity Gauntlet in Infinity War. Also, at 7:53 you've got another opening scene from Infinity War if you replace the Silver Surfer with Bruce Banner.
