The banning on people improving unfinished games like cyberpunk. And so on I think it's just important to call out the bad as much as it is to shout out what you like. Transparency is key to earn back my trust at the very least along with actually owning what I pay for.
I always was blown away at gamers supporting Bungie, this is one of the worst gaming companies on the planet. Thank god I abandoned them after playing 30 minutes of OG Destiny 1.
Their fans deserve it, do they not? These area the people who have financially supported Bungie, and encouraged every single tactic they used. Bungie was not always terrible, their fans made them that way. Folks who would stick up for Destiny's terrible launch day 1, have continued to throw money at that company. A statement made on Bungie's website on 9/29/21 Hello everyone. I’m Pete, Bungie’s CEO. My day-to-day purpose is to invest in the people who make magic here at Bungie. I want to enable and empower them to serve, nurture, and support a positive player community. I also want to help those in need by leveraging our fortunate and privileged position as a studio that has been working in entertainment for three decades.
These past few months have been a sobering reminder for all of us as we hear and listen to the multitude of stories highlighting how good people across our industry have been mistreated. At Bungie, we are committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, and to making conscious and constant improvements through listening, self-awareness, improving our workplace and our systems, and by acting on behalf of our people.
Inside Bungie, recent news and conversations related to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) in our industry have opened an honest conversation about how we can be better, both as we look to make forward progress, and as we examine and acknowledge our past. We aren't perfect and appreciate it when concerns are brought to our attention. For the things we've known about, we've taken action, and we are working to address issues as they come up.
I know speaking up takes real courage, so I’m always grateful when people come forward. I want Bungie to be the best place anyone can ever work in our industry, and I want to empower people no matter who they are, where they are from, or how they identify, to do their best work. I know it is critical for us to be transparent, to understand our past, our failings, and to acknowledge them. Confronting hard truths and doing our best to repair past harm wherever possible -- that is how we move forward. Also Bungie: All animals are equal. But some are more equal than others.

@@nailinthefashionmy issue is they made it impossible for new or returning players. They’ve gated so much content I couldn’t figure out what was going on
The problem is that they need some live service games to drive engagement since the company’s solo games don’t make enough money. And since Sony snobbed the genre for so long they now tend to overcompensate. Definitely not a sign of a confident company
@@SardaukarX Capcom has Street Fighter 6, EA has Apex Legends and the yearly sports games, 2K has their WWE 2K series and GTA Online, Activision has Call of Duty, etc, etc, the list goes on. But Sony doesn't have one. I feel like the fault partly blames on them for not making a live-service title sooner when the iron was still hot. They basically pigeonholed themselves into only making single player games by conditioning their audience to only accept single player games from them. And not just single player games either, but HIGH quality single player games, which are ridiculously expensive and time-consuming to make and advertise. Doesn't help that they don't have any IPs that generate passive income for them to cover the times in-between big single player game releases.
@@runbaa9285 Huh, I didn't realize Playstation is the only console lacking an exclusive multiplayer game right now. Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has Smash and Splatoon - Sony really dropped the ball.
@@kyotra The reality is that for a publisher to focus on purely AAA single player games is just not a sustainable business in the long run considering how expensive they are to make these days. Even publishers like Square Enix who are known for single player games have a live-service title such as FF14 to generate passive income in-between big single player releases. Unfortunately, Sony kinda realized this a little too late, and by the time they want to delve into multiplayer games, they've already fostered an audience that mostly only want single player games.
And that's why those games are the only ones I buy full price near launch, they're worth it. Haven't had time to play BG3 yet but I bought it. I'm trying to finish BG2 EE first ^^.
That's why I won't shut up about Avatar Frontiers. It's the first game I've bought full price and put dozens of hours into like in the ps3 golden era with Infamous, Second Son, the neon DLC, and so on.
He lied; it's not a "whole product". The entire last third of the game is unfinished and of less than even mediocre quality. it's still better than most other so called AAA games, but that just speaks of the degeneration of the industry as a whole.
its not all that and selling its console self as $70 is scummy no matter what its also buggy still and isn't great just casual broad appeal due to many first crpg just over praise and hype and things people won't bring up about the game

The fact that Epic won the lawsuit against Google and lost against Apple is insane considering both companies operate the same in this circumstance and the lawsuits were basically for the same reasons. Gotta love the ridiculous justice system we have here in the US...
No its different circumstances, you can read up the details on why google lost but Apple won, 1st apple treats everyone the same, there is no 3rd party store at all. While google does under the table deals with various ones to eventually close them out or keep them limited from becoming too competitive, the evidence for this got so bad that google was caught deleting emails and chats from 'discovery' to the point that judge said to the jury that 'they should consider the deleted evidence as incriminating to google' You can see this play out different companies too, spotify doesnt pay google any money at all, while netflix pays lesser than other, so ofcourse Epic won because others were getting preferential treatment.
Apple never paid other companies to exclude Epic, they built their own platform from scratch both hardware and software, so fundamentally yes they get to set their own rules. Google made secret deals with OEMs to not put Epic preloaded on their phones.
Google losing to Epic, despite allowing external app stores which Apple doesn't, shows just how big Apple's Reality Distortion Field is on the general public.
Google thing being decided by a jury instead of a judge could also be a big part. IMO Epic should win this case, but then it would also be appropriate to let people set up their own skin stores on Fortnite without Epic getting a cut, right?
Judge vs Jury. Jury will decide based on what they think is right, Judge will decide based on law and precedent (even if the law is wrong and totally fucked).
As a Ratchet & Clank fan I'm glad they aren't forgotten but it broke my heart to see how poorly Rift Apart sold and broke again seeing how far away the next game is. 3D platformers really don't sell unless they're called Mario I guess.
You sure it sold poorly? It was received really well, my favorite entry in a long time. The series in general has had more luck than other platformers released during the PS2 days which died out once the HD era arrived. Edit: I'm guessing the answer has to do with the leak.
Rift Apart did satisfactorily enough tho. The pc release was pretty weak tho, since he game had really no "hype" behind it by this point (everyone already knew about it).
This is why cyber security is so important and cannot be slacked on. You can rage at these hackers all you want but that won't stop anything. More companies need to take security more seriously. Still unfortunate for these guys though.
it's crazy that you imply that they didn't try hard enough to be secure. They got hacked once (that we know of), but how many hacks have been attempted and denied? you don't know that number
@@YuriG03042 I agree with Nuck. I went through Cyber Security certification and the examples of private companies not taking steps (doing the bare minimum and nothing more) to secure data (let alone employee private data) is nuts on its own. Let's not talk about the examples I've seen through my professional career (I work in IT). I mean Sony got hacked not once, but twice. While yes, it's true that some companies do go higher in regards to securing their data (I mean even Microsoft got hacked), that doesn't mean oversight doesn't contribute to it at least America (places who keep their systems that run utilities like electricity or dams visible to the Internet is case and point).
@@YuriG03042I actually work as a cyber security professional. I train hackers. Nuck is correct. More money needs to be given to us and our efforts to mitigate risks. But every company gets lackadaisical like their internal teams aren't hack-able.
@@YuriG03042Lol you should be the Sony CEO and talk those the employees. “guys we really tried I promise, it sucks all your personal information got leaked but man we really tried.” Also, this is the SECOND time Sony got hacked (2014) recently so you’re gonna have to suck their balls a bit harder to justify their shit infrastructure
I do hate the blatant hypocrisy regarding the Insomniac hack, when it happened to other devs like Nintendo and Capcom, no one cared, everyone reported on it, even on NaughtyDog with Last of Us 2 but for some reason it's a problem when it's Insomniac? For some reason now these outlets are very sympathetic? is it because it's Spiderman? I mean don't get me wrong this sucks it happened to them, especially on workers information
Could be something to do with the fact that the other leaks weren't as bad as this one. The ND leak, as far as I can remember, only really leaked information about a game coming out in a month, this one leaks a whole lot of stuff, including a game in progress, future projects, sales reports, private employee data.
If only there was some sort of federal bureau made to investigate these ransoms, they could even make it an acronym like FBI and their purpose could be to investigate federal crimes.
Yknow, every time I hear about layoffs and cost cutting measures from Western devs and how they always argue that CEOs don’t cut salaries as a means of saving money, I think back to Satoro Iwata and other Nintendo leadership taking huge salary cuts during Nintendo’s low point in 2014 to save their team. That’s leadership. That’s how you show your faith in the people who work hard for you.
That’s Japanese corporate culture. It can’t happen here. And honestly, working environments in Japan make the average AAA crunch factory look like child’s play. The least they can do is give their employees more money and allow them to keep their jobs.
Eh, its equally bad to be honest, being a game dev is stereotypically underpaid work, because most people do it out of passion. Even if the work and effort to get to the point of being hireable isn't worth the mediocre paycheck
The most strange thing Bungie removed according to the IGN news is competitive wages. They won't match employee wages to market standard rates anymore. If I was a publisher or studio looking to create a live service in the future, I'd be offering the laid off staff AND current Bungie staff market rate or above, knowing now Bungie can't match it.
Wow, I must have missed that in the video or news. That’s got the makings of “a smoking gun”. How do they expect to have a successful live service game with horrible work culture, below average wages, and minimal benefits?
@@taylorblom4323easy, they don't. They just don't care. Did you hear the thing about the Q&A question about making upper management take any paycuts? They responded with "we're not that kind of company"
Interesting how ND says they‘d have to go all in on live service. I ve been in corporate world long enough to know that, things like these either was clear from the get go or theyve been very weak on the management department.
Crazy watching the PR department push the "live service bad" button to distract from the wasted years and money on Factions, and everyone just swallowing it whole.
I think you’re on the right track with how you’re approaching coverage. Ultimately, you have a responsibility as press to cover these subjects. Prioritizing the cost to the individuals harmed by attacking an organization is the right move. Having that priority and motivation will help to frame things going forward as you cover the content, and that perspective is exactly the kind of thing that is necessary from press.
RIP James McCaffrey, one of the best VAs in the industry, truly a devastating loss. Glad he saw Alan Wake 2 get the well deserved recognition. Masterful work as Alex Casey, Trench, Zane and Max Payne.
The one thing I think game companies shouldn't feel afraid to share with the public is the real sale numbers their games made and if it meet their quartier.

Larian is a glowing example of what a games studio used to be and still should be - awesome nerds making awesome games for their nerd friends for the love of it . The corporate profit dynamic destroys everything it touches without exception.
The fact that everyone is only having this conversation about leaks now proves how much the media is skewed towards a particular platform. No one said anything about any other leaks until now. No one.
To be honest, I’m kind of tired of game directors treating the medium like a stepping stone to get into film. Too many games are becoming things you watch with brief interruptions of interaction.
I feel like working in an office for most of my life has made me jaded 😅 because it totally made sense to me how naughty dog could unknowingly get to the point of pivoting their whole studio towards live service. Heck I'm surprised they realized now and not after a year of actually doing it.

This suggests we may see an Ari Aster and Kojima feature film with Bobby Krlic soundtracking it. What's also cool is that Bobby Krlic has not only scored Ari's last three features but has already scored some truly excellent video games such as Returnal and featured in the Red Dead Redemption 2 score. If ever there were a perfect intersection between film and games, these three would be it.

I still think the avengers game has a great single player campaign. as soon as crystal dynamics lost the live service shackles they hit it out of the park with guardians. and that on top of their great tombraider games
Guardians wasn't made by Crystal Dynamics. I think it might have been Eidos, who are now owned by Embracer (hopefully they stay alive after all the layoffs).
The Avengers game had a great single player for campaign for the first maybe 60% of it then it got pretty bad. My guess is that was around the time they shifted to the live service elements so they couldn't finish and polish the campaign. I really wish they would just release the game as a single player game and remove all the live service bs for like 20 bucks or something. It wasn't the worst game ever but it never reached its real potential.
It’s so sad Insomniac will become the capeshid studio for years to come. They have become creatively bankrupt because I guess their other games don’t sell that well.
I think it's ok to bring attention to the leaks in a healthy way like this. The disclosure of personal information ups the level of the crime as it puts people in harms way, not just company finances. Hopefully this group gets caught and brought to justice for that. Leaking things in-work (game title, story, whatever) is where these hackers should draw the line. Clearly the companies are also at fault for having personal info so easily accessible. That stuff needs to be stored internally and not available to external networks

This is obviously the worst thing that happened in the gaming industry. Insomniac games have been top-notch and I enjoyed every single game from them. No one really deserves to ruin what they have achieved. Hope Sony will track down hackers and punish them.
The difference between a leak and a hack is that with the hack, the information was obtained through extortion. An accidental leak is just poor form. If you report on information extracted from a hack, you confirm you are happy as an outlet to profit (and you do so) from the extortion of others. I do not see any other way you can interpret this.
It's easy from the players side, being that most games only average 20-30 hours, to lose sight of exactly how much time goes into these projects. Even the worst games can still take a real chunk out of a developers actual life. It really is a bummer, to see the efforts of so many people just get burned up because... money? Weak.

The problem is that they need some live service games to drive engagement since the company’s solo games don’t make enough money. And since Sony snobbed the genre for so long they now tend to overcompensate.

Swen's statement about the game being meaty and being a whole product make me happy. I miss the era when that was normal, it's an awesome throwback.

The fact that Epic won the lawsuit against Google and lost against Apple is insane considering both companies operate the same in this circumstance and the lawsuits were basically for the same reasons. Gotta love the ridiculous justice system we have here in the US...
Apple will still be forced by the EU to allow 3rd party stores in 2024, so I still consider that a win.
@@LordShrub That's fair, I suppose. Still doesnt dismiss the fact that our courts are incredibly inconsistent at best.
No its different circumstances, you can read up the details on why google lost but Apple won, 1st apple treats everyone the same, there is no 3rd party store at all.
While google does under the table deals with various ones to eventually close them out or keep them limited from becoming too competitive, the evidence for this got so bad that google was caught deleting emails and chats from 'discovery' to the point that judge said to the jury that 'they should consider the deleted evidence as incriminating to google'
You can see this play out different companies too, spotify doesnt pay google any money at all, while netflix pays lesser than other, so ofcourse Epic won because others were getting preferential treatment.
Apple never paid other companies to exclude Epic, they built their own platform from scratch both hardware and software, so fundamentally yes they get to set their own rules. Google made secret deals with OEMs to not put Epic preloaded on their phones.
Especially since Google allows third party installations on Android despite throwing out security errors, and Apple block it off completely.

This is why cyber security is so important and cannot be slacked on. You can rage at these hackers all you want but that won't stop anything. More companies need to take security more seriously. Still unfortunate for these guys though.

SkillUp for the real gaming news and no bullshit. Keep up the great work, lad.
Now Naughty Dog can concentrate on TLOU remake remaster remaster
People ara saying that Insomniac Games’ future plans are “leaked”. But no. This is a hack, this is illegal, this is CRIME!
And the Insomniac hackers didn't even have the decency to wait until This Week in Video Games had dropped before releasing the data
Hacks should be covered to raise awareness and to warn others of potential breach vectors. Companies will not take security of data seriously unless forced to and helping those companies to coverup their poor handling and security of data should be of great concern to everyone. Soon we will be in the age of AI where an AI will be able to miss use your data faster than anyone will be able to stop it.
The hackers gave a statement that it took them '25 minutes to get control of the network administrator'
And this isnt even the 1st time sony has had a big hack like this
@@chromesucks5299 That is shockingly bad.
@@ericneo2 Yep, I imagine they will be emboldened and go after other subsidiary studios (they also sold 2% of the data to someone unknown) and released the rest 98% of the stuff.
Feliz Natal e feliz ano novo, Ralph!
Good. Maybe they shouldn't have made the Spider-Man games so woke and this wouldn't have happened.
Clicked the video for news and then got blasted with ethics and philosophy 101 LOL
highly appreciate the nuanced discussion on the insomniac hack, feel like a lot of people have been taking it on the wrong terms without considering the ramifications of this data being made public
Your username is Awesome! Have a great day mate!
5:30 SOMEONE FINALLY FUCKING SAID THIS, THANKS SHILLUP
12:39 NaughtyDogs ambition + Bungies advice on how to monitise the experience is probably what tanked this project lmao. I can't even get over ND listening to Bungie considering the state destiny 2 is currently in...
I think Bungies feedback was mostly along the lines of, "you're massively underestimating the effort and resources that maintaining a GaaS game will require post launch"
"We are not that kind of company"
Well, and I am not that kind of customer.
RIP James McCaffrey. You will be sorely missed.
I cried... This year took so many irreplaceable VAs
Hey, you still the VA for Ada from RE4 Remake!
@@MaximumPayine meh. Only because greedy Capcom didn't want to hire the one that is in a union (so they can pay her less). Mofos
28:13 Anyone know what game this is?
Nvm, it's House Flipper 2.
You really have become one of the most important voices of this industry, calling attention to some incredibly important topics with a humanism and clarity that I think is incredible meaningful.
Careful there, buddy... don't choke on it.
