Thank you for this, I have an M Roadster and the black plastic channel has come apart from the window. I know I can do it myself now. You're excellent with your instructions!
This is a very good video!! I was thinking that I would have to take the car in and have someone replace the window, but I think I can change it my self.
A great video, I liked listening to your talking explanation! The customer should have had the whole roof replaced because even though you did a great job you can still see the white CRAZY glue he used which spoiled the effect. Thankyou.
Good video, but for someone who has never done this before, it is difficult. I tried it alone, took me like 4 hours. The zipper ripped of from the roof on one corner, so I had to sew it back on hole by hole. Also getting the zipper in and lining it up correctly took me multiple tries. Then the zipper wouldn't want to connect on one spot, that was also tricky. And a heatgun to make the window soft was also helpfull. For the old Z3 tops, they do shrink over the years. So it is the best to get a custom sized replacement window. I send mine in as a sample and the size of the new one was very excact. No wrinkles at all. I recommend bring you car to the professionals who do this as a daily buisness. They do have more experience and know all the tricks. That will save you al lot of time, stress and a few days of your lifetime at the end.🙏
I installed new window and your video was helpful but, I must have started at the right spot because because the top material is bunched up a little on the bottom.
Thank you for providing us with a great video I'm wondering if you can also provide us with the zipper number so that we can perform this job thanks a lot
Thanks so much for your demo, very beautifully nailed> If you can please give me some ideas, my car 1998 Mk1 has the same model nothing wrong with the PVC very strong but over since last year to now noticed the surrounding rubber seals top left and right has come off leads to minor leaks and condensation, I was trying to remove to place some black silicon now I am struggling to run through.....where can I buy this new rubber seal runner, please please help me>
I'm in the midst of trying to install a new rear plastic window on my '98 M Roadster. Like others, I have had the same failure in my right and left upper corners pulling away. Prior ownership did glue those areas, which bided some time, but that too has failed. It needed a new window. Car sat in storage for 22/yrs, accumulating only 3K miles during that time. It now has 19K and the top is in very good condition, so hate to replace the whole when just the window needs replacement. However, this has been an exercise of frustration. After the zipper slide broke and finding a new one, I've gotten pretty proficient at getting both ends started and zipping towards the first corner - lower right side. Either before the corner, or while trying to make the bend, the zip separates requiring going back over the open portion. Sometimes it closes and I can move forward, most times I need to restart from the beginning. Even if I can move forward, by the times I turn the first corner, it is separated again. Anyone with words of wisdom or tricks of the trade that I can lean on?
Good commentary. A little constructive advice: please get someone to hold camera for you and get some good lighting. It's impossible to see some of what you were doing. also would appreciate more detail on the sewing.
Right at the 4:44 mark you changed camera view and skipped the part of how you got the zipper to connect on both. That was the most important part and you left it out. Why???
Thank you! Very clear step by step 👍 was it a BMW ORIGINAL window? I am thinking about replacing mine and wanted to know if its worth to pay 350 for the BMW one.
Why not leave the zipper pull in place? Is this removed for security reasons? I used to have a Triumph TR6 and liked to have the soft top up and unzip the rear window.
GRACIAS from Detroit! Your teaching is EXCELLENT - clear, understandable and taking the time needed to see every detail. BRAVO!
Thank you so much, you helped me replaced my 1997 BMW Z3 window. I no longer have water leaking in :) Gracias amigo, God bless

Are around that price
Check on Robbins automotive
Holla mon ami can you tell how to change the zipper
Why not leave the zipper pull in place? Is this removed for security reasons? I used to have a Triumph TR6 and liked to have the soft top up and unzip the rear window.
What about If you have just the Frame unglued? What kind of glue can you use? Thank you for an answer
If the zipper still good . You can glue back with LANDAU TOP AND TRIM GLUE
Hi question where can I buy the same plastic window I have the same problem with my BMW z3 2002
You can buy in so many place: veteranco, Robbins automotive, ggah etc
Where I could get the window but I want it tinted
So I take it I can't just get the plastic window for my 95 325i convertible?? I can't find just the window
Dos plastic window only z3 they don't make it for the 325i
Misty EBay store has one for $130
What if my zipper is on the inside of my car and on the outside it is sewn ?
What did you get the glue off with?
sometimes just lacquer thinner Byron recommend You to You use lacquer in a convertible top. So you can gasoline the chip one or acetona eather once
Where you order them?
Online
Why didn't you show them how to"unzip" the old window?
Anyone do this in Myrtle Beach, SC?
