Japan's Secluded Snowy Mountain Towns 🌨 | Ginzan Onsen + Ouchi Juku (but we're very unlucky lol)

  • Sometimes the weather is just not on your side and you aren't meant to get on the last bus out of town 😌
    Today I'm taking you with me on my weekend trip to a few places in Northern Japan! This time I went to Ginzan Onsen, the famous Ghibli-esque winter snow town, and Fukushima--stopping in Ouchi-Juku to try their famous negi soba and then stopping in Aizu-Wakamatsu because...why not 😅
    It kept raining and was way too hot in the daytime, but at night in Ginzan Onsen we were absolutely FREEZING 😌 Sometimes that's how it is!! I'd love to go back and stay in a ryokan there, but maybe in summer 😅

    Not every trip is destined to be as you planned it, but it's all about how you treat these little...bumps in the road 😅 There were actually a few more unlucky things that I didn't film, such as attempting to go to three onsen and them all being closed and then having to pull off the highway at night because I couldn't see through a snow cloud 😭 That's life!!!! So the footage is a bit messy since we were cold and wet the whole time 😅 Oh well...let's call it...authenticity 😌

    That random cave was CLEARLY a side quest, there was probably some epic loot at the end of that obviously toxic tunnel lmao

    This was such a great video! I've travelled a lot in my days, and even though I am used to it I sometimes get anxious when things do not go according to plan, but sometimes that's just how it goes. I'm so excited for my move to Northern Japan (Iwate) and exploring everything it has to offer :)

      Northern Japan is really great for nature, it’s so beautiful and so many traditional things 🥰

      @@AllisoninTokyo I'm stoked to see all the traditional things especially :) apparently there's a lot of interesting local festivals in the summer, so if you're planning any summer travels let's connect and I'd be glad to show you around Morioka!

    In the UK we call the 'escalators without stairs' travelators - a moving conveyor belt for people lol. It would be interesting to know what they are called in other parts of the world.

    Hello

    Yes, I totally recognized the onsen--I was thinking, "Oh it's the Sento no Chihiro place!" So my main question, which I guess you answered in your comment, is--Did you guys actually go in an onsen, get to take a bath? It sounds like you didn't, which would def make the trip a bust for me. I know you said you used to live in Gero (right?) and I've been there, I know you can use the baths even if you're not staying in the hotels, but it sounds like you couldn't do that at Ginzan. I wonder if it's a covid thing, or is Ginzan just so famous that they don't let non-guests use the bath...hmm. Whenever my friend and I used to take weekend road trips (in Japan) it almost always rained and we'd tease each other about which one of us had jinxed the trip, lol. I'm counting down the days until I leave for Japan--three weeks!!

    • @AllisoninTokyo
      @AllisoninTokyo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No 🥹 Apparently one or two are usually open for day guests but yeah, they’re closed due to covid…not sure how long they’ll be able to use that excuse 😅 There is a fully public bath facility but we weren’t interested since it looked very small and didn’t have great reviews 😔
