    one interesting place to make a base that is very easily overlooked is the islands directly west of the iron trail. the unmarked "zone" only has a very poor iron deposit and wind as resources so at a glance it looks like a terrible place to make a base. however seemingly unique to my knowledge is that at least at default faction relations literally nothing hostile will ever show up and the only visitors that will show up is hive and nomad traders that can provide otherwise missing resources. may be worth a short video if only due to unusualness of not having to worry about any hostiles.

    • @nubbyshober1283
      @nubbyshober1283 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The downside to that island is that it's soooo far away from anything, as to be insanely remote. Not a good choice if you're still in the "needing to sell hooch for money" phase of a playthrough.
      My all time favorite (mid- to late-game) base location is a butte NE from the Hub--roughly midway between Hub and the Ninja Towers. There's only one way up, up a steep slope, and there's room for an 80% iron drill up top (plus 100% mineable iron & copper nearby). No water though, unless you use Moisture Farming (mod).

    There's a spot on the border of The Crags/The Pits, once you find it you'll have an awesome endgame base location. Would make for a great video with how many different enemies you get to fight there, 200% metals, good water but no fertility so its either hydroponics or skeleton base. With both dust storms and acid rain there are decisions you'll have to make in terms of gearing your people and for me in a Holy Nation aligned run it's a great place to hide a skeleton army.

    Once you start settling, ive found beak things to be more of a benefit than a hindrance. Raiders and threats have to contend with them too, and once you get a wall up or even just a house with a door and a crossbow on the roof, they stop being a threat almost entirely.
    Plus theyre a source of leather and meat!
    Nothing quite like seeing a holy nation raid or slaver raid coming at you, only to run into a beak thing pack outside your walls, and their shrill screams and cries for helo as theyre eaten alive, lull your people to sleep. Lol

    Built a base in the Unwanted Zone on the NE border with Strobe's, close to Black Scratch, with animal nests set to 400%. Even on the edge of the province it was rough to set up, mainly due to the huge hordes of beak things and occasional Reaver raid. Once the base was walled with a turreted killbox entrance, it was still a major pain to get to Black Scratch to buy/sell. Plenty of meat and leather, though.

    It has been awhile, but one of my favorite base spots was located just north of the ghost village in Northern Coast. Also Darkfinger has a few good locations as well, but I prefer the Northern Coast because it is close to Worlds End, the Fishing Village, and Flotsam Village. Also west of the Fishing Village has no taxes or prayer day, but east of it does have prayer day. I have not tried Hidden Forest, but there seems to be a few decent spots in the northern parts of it, but the raid map makes it looks like it could see both taxes and prayer day in parts of it.
    I also really like the Forbidden Isle as well, if you kill a certain character the iron spiders change to Garru and Goats. So it depends on what local loot you want if you want to do that or not. Just make sure to come equipped for acid rain.

    If you're going for safety and convient location you should do an all skeleton team and build in the deadlands; every faction that attempts to invade you dies to acid and there's plenty of iron and copper to repair your skeletons. You can't grow food or use wind power but you can buy fuel from the skeleton city or you can set up near the border and cheese wind wind power into your base. Also you can have acid immune hivers that serve as your expoditon team that can live for long periods of time off of looted food. Otherwise if you're crafting repair kits as you should you can sell repair kits for copious amounts of shitty food to give to your hiver squad. thank you for listening to my tedtalk

  • @GodlordBazi
    @GodlordBazi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 4:25 you can see a massive mountain in the background. You can actually settle up there.
    There's only a very tiny path leading up there (I actually blocked it with a single gate and defended it with a single storm house right next to it on the cliffs with initially 2 harpoon turrets mounted on it), but the area up there is huge. You have strong winds, actually pretty good fertility for weed and hemp, max stone quality, okay-quality iron, but very low water and no copper. You can simply fix the water issue with multiple wells, but you need to travel down to the valley for copper, which is a fucking dangerous undertaking, since the Blood Reaver's base is literally right next to the mountain.
    Speaking of Blood Reavers: they'll attack you CONSTANTLY. Sometimes it really feels like hour-long wave attacks sent from their headquarters. If you're using a Recruit Prisoner mod, that's actually good for you, since you can easily farm them for dudes with stat lines of 50+ in everyything.
    The real problem is 1. the amount of factions attacking you there and 2. which factions those are. The Skeleton Legion and the Skin Bandits are no joke, especially with the latter faction kidnapping your guys as soon as they hit the floor. During their first attack, they took no less than 6 of my guys with them to their main base all the way down in the south. The plains arround this mountain are so dangerous that I couldn't follow the kidnappers, so all I could do was to repair the gates and watch them run off into the distance.
    Settling up there was hella fun (I cosplayed a primitive mountain barbarian tribe that occasionally raided United Cities territory), but it definately was among my hardest playthroughs ever and as an experienced player that barely risks anything I was damn close to getting wiped out completely multiple times, so try it at your own risk. ;>

    Completely unrelated but a must have mod I use is better smiths of kenshi, it makes it so that other craftsmen have a chance to sell weapons with higher qualities never enough to to exceed anything edge walker does but enough to match it so you can actually use the hidden buffs from smith to smith, like how catun weapons do mor blunt damage, I forget the percentage but check it out it’s awesome for role play and themed play throughs

    Black desert is another gem, for skeletons. there is an elevated platform you can build on with 2 entrypoints on 1 side. so you can easily make you defences point in the right direction. innthe center, entries on north side.
    and obviously raiders suffocate getting to you. its a harsh environment for sure.

  • @JohnSmith-one

    I usually settle in Dreg where it touches the Fog Islands border from the south and a little bit to the east. There is a prime place with a lot of good quality iron nodes, a few good copper nodes and super fertile land.
    The drawback, of course, is the risk of being eaten by cannibals or fogmen but there are 0 other factions with which you can worsen your settlement's relationships.
    Ok, on very rare occasions (I think this is a bug) dust bandits can arrive but they are usually eaten by the aforementioned cannibals or fogmen before they can even break through the gates (assuming you have gates).
    You can also perform a slave-trading trick to befriend both fogmen and cannibals and leave happily ever after. Be careful, tho, because fogmen will still eat all of your organic prisoners. It is also worth noting that cannibals will still form raids and come to you but when they actually start "raiding" they will do no harm to your pawns or property (despite being marked red when you hover over them) so just keep calm and wait and they will go away... snatching all of your organic prisoners, of course. Basically, you can't have any prisoners (except robots) with this kind of strat but this is a small price to pay in my opinion.

  • @iamzid

    my last playthrough i settled in the fog islands. once i was big enough to handle the fog men it became a very pleasant place to live. any "raid" that came by was basically a joke and many times the fog man hoards would take care of them for me.

    I tend to play as Skeletons... So.. The rain part is not an issue.. My very first playthrough was as a Skeleton funny enough. I eventually settled in that place not even knowing about the acid rain till a little later.. Its way more of a bonus if you play as Skeletons only like I did that time over any other group but I can see how some people might see that as cheating a bit. ( I also made my Skeleton into a Ninja/shinobi and went around recruiting other Skeletons making them also Ninja/Shinobi.. lol So.. Yea more than one cheesy play by me straight away.. To be fair I did not know anything about Kenshi when I started it and just gravitated to those choices. Because I tend to like stealth in the first place when playing games, even when its not as useful compared to other things, and I also tend to like specific aesthetics more than others. The Skeletons fit that better than the others.. I was fine with their negatives for what they gained. )

      If you have really good Skeletons doing gate guard defense, Sonorous Dark is a very good zone for end-game bases. Most Human and Shek challengers will be weakened by the acid rain and Skin Bandit patrols, water is present for hydroponics, and wind is decent to power the base with optional generators.
      Base gunners will be wearing straw hats, martial artist bindings, and sleeveless longcoats to focus solely on lock and load.
