I've never been keen on the shori as a summer food. The shogun however for spring in autumn was fantastic for my fish. The thing to remember is that with different ingredients and additive, the fish will poo white ish poo. I find with the saki hikari, their poo is dark and less noticeable. The Balance however was a nightmare for me, and probably not good enough for young fish. You're not lucky with the parasites this year. Hope you get rid of them.
Your not alone in disliking the shori, most of the comments agree. I've been really happy with the balance, and recommend to me by Ken, he uses it for all his koi. I'm looking forward to seeing how I get on with it on a full season. Hope you're well lau x
@DerbyKoi yeah all good this end thank you. Saki hikari is very popular, I just wanted to let you know about Balance not being the best for young fish. But we're all different 😘
Interesting update Andy re the float-switch and food. Hope that’s the end of the parasites…. 🤞🏼 I’m going to try Takazumi Vital for this winters feed etc.
Thanks Andy, parasites sorted fingers crossed. Lot of good reviews on the takazumi. I think I'm going to stick to the saki. I want to test a season with it 😊👍🏻
@@DerbyKoi Yeah quite right Andy. I’ll see how I go with the Takazumi. Next thought for me would be to try the Saki, as with a small pond and not too many koi, it shouldn’t be too expensive for me. 🤔 🤷🏼♂️ 👍🏼 😊
@@DerbyKoi To be honest, I think I will do that next. Seriously considered it just now, but so many say the Takazumi is good so thought I’d try it first. The low amount of reported waste draws me to it. And the dealers that have said to me the koi will benefit from Saki, to hold their colour more, given that my koi don’t get natural light, well very little anyways.
I've definitely noticed a lot less waste, and I think I can see a difference in colour, although that could also be the lower temps. Which is why I want to try a whole season with it.
Great update again team Derby Koi, good review of the JPD, I had fluke this week and run out of Lernex, @westcroftkoi @maddogkoipond are on my doorstep and have it in stock so nipped down there to get more. They also stock JPD foods among others superb being local for some 👍🙏
Thanks mate, and I really appreciate you offering the food for testing, there was a large amount of waste but reading the comments it seems it might be the shori 🤷♂️. Maybe something you could test 🤔
Nice one Andy , I’ve always used shogun as my winter food as it seems to pull the whites back better than any other, but shiori was horrible almost as much waste as the takizumi , Saki all day long now for the summer even thinking of the multi season for winter 👍👍😎😎
Hi mate I hope you're well and I'm loving the saki food but the koi love it more 😂 and I'm using saki balance and hikari wheatgerm mix I was recommended which is like a multi season and the colours are really starting to come out now. 👍
I had Same thing happen with my float switch few months ago first time since fitting it about 5 years ago I was out feeding the fish one of my bigger koi whent for some food near the switch pushed the switch down and power to filter pump whent off had to give the switch a shake as ball bearing had stuck before it would come back on I now shake the switch every week when I test it to make sure its freely moving inside the unit
I've used the jpd food, I wasn't impressed, lots of waste and koi didn't seem to have an appetite for it, you have some great looking tosai in the tank
Nice video Andy 👍 Things are sent to test us, aren't they 🙄 I used JPD Shogun all last summer and through the winter, but I have been using Takazumi Mix this year. About to introduce Wheatgerm to the mix for this winter. Hope you're all well.
Thanks mate , never had 2 parasites ar the same time 🤨. Hopefully sorted now. From the comments I've had it seems the shori is the problem and shogun better reviews 🤔
Shori is dreadful stuff, shogun isn't much better to be honest, far too much waste left. I've been using the kenco food but I'm not happy with that this year. Its been really interesting following your tests, time for a change next year me thinks 🤔 Great update as usual mate
Great vid again, the power of deduction eh you saved a lot of time with the electrics mate, and what a great idea from mad dog when treating the water to lower the level, but question, do you know if fluke and trich can survive on the sides of the pond once the level has been dropped? and if so how long
Thanks mate and great question. I had to do some research. Limited info, but it seems fluke won't survive long out of water, and the treatment I used will stay in the pond for several days, do hopefully will kill anything that was missed once the water was topped up, plus there will be a second treatment. But I appreciate you asking I didn't even think about it. Cheers 😁
Hey Andy, thanks for reply mate, when you get past 70 the old grey matter not as sharp as it used to be lol, but best tip I've seen this year with the price of treatments, makes sense to treat 1,000 gal instead of 2,000, will def try in spring if I get probs, all you youtubers do a great job for koi loversbe safe Paul aka Old Miner👍@@DerbyKoi
Thanks Paul, not sure how much of a saving for me, I'm on a bloody water meter 😕. But it might be in the fry house (bunker) with only 2 small tanks 😀. Have a great weekend mate 👍🏻
Another great video Andy 👏 . I’m currently having the same issue flashing a week ago then nothing on the scrapes then they all calmed now and have started again this time the scrapes have shown trick . What have you used to get rid of them ?
@@DerbyKoi I appreciate the reply mate . I’ve thought about using it but how quickly it can go wrong kinda puts me off as I’ve never used it before but I think it might be worth a try
I used it for the first time this year. I was very nervous but just make sure you double check the dose your using put lots of oxygen into the water and have your hydrogen peroxide mixed and ready to nuterlise it if and when needed. And don't leave them unattended because things can change very fast and you might need to act quickly.
Off subject I put a iceberg lettuce in my pond every two weeks and they clear all of it in one day I have fifteen koi of varying sizes does any one else feed them with lettuce.
Cracking update Andy Pandy bruva and I've been using some shori 4mm that I was given and have noticed waste appearing again 🤬 back to the takazumi 💯🧁👍👍👍
Thanks vince, I had to mix the shori and shogun but reading the comments it seems its the shori that caused the over waste. I appreciate scragg letting me Try it though 😊👍🏻
Cracking update Andy, useful info for anyone with a float switch 😊
Thanks Stan 👍🏻
Great update, always learning from your content. 😊
Thanks mate, much appreciated 👍🏻
Aye mate make sure that the float switch is upright quite often I just put a tie rapp on to shorten the cable and keep it up right 👍
Thanks mate, I'm going to make some adjustments this weekend to hopefully prevent it happening again 👍🏻
Great vid as always Andy. I've enjoyed watching your recent food trials, I think I'm going to switch next year and give the saki bakance a try.
Thanks Petra. I'm really happy with the saki. Let me know how you get on with it next year 😊👍🏻
Nice update 👍 on the float switch Andy 👌
Thanks and thankfully an easy fix and I will be checking it more regular now.👍
Thanks mate 👍🏻

Thanks Scott I think I've nuked them now 🤞
Great update and i will definitely go and check my float switch now 👍and hopefully you've sorted the parasites 🤞

Thanks Ian, it's worth checking regularly mate. Hopefully parasites are sorted too 👍🏻

Hopefully you've got rid of the parasites now. And i use the saki balance my fish love it and im starting to add the wheatgerm in like you suggested.
Hi Jeff I'm really happy with the saki mix and the fish love it. Stay safe Andy 👍

Hi Bob, I don't feed my koi lettuce, I think I remember reading something about using the darker leaf varieties
@@DerbyKoi I'm not sure about light or dark lettuce my koi must be colour blind they eat anything good content happy to keep watching
I do feed them a variety of treats, they really like half oranges, and it's fun watching them attack it 😁. Thanks for watching Bob 👍🏻😊
Nothing worse then electrical problems
Thankfully an easy fix 😊. Enjoy you're weekend lads
At least it was only the float switch Buddy, more 🪲to contend with then Andy, hope you zapped them Mate. The food trek continues…………..👍
I've had my fair share of parasites this year that's for sure 🤣.
