Great review, Marek. What I love about your reviews is that you review the cars for what they are trying to accomplish. Not every car is built for performance...some are just well made, safe, practical transportation.
I spent a substantial amount of time and money to get to that location hoping for a view of the mountains in the background. All I should have done was stayed home, and waited for fog :)
I have a 1.4 Octavia which is approaching 7 years old and apart from the lack of tech and driver aids is a great car. The Scala is potentially my next car with the dsg gearbox as roads are becoming more congested. Good review.
I would buy this over an Octavia because in my view it looks better, I don't need a massive boot (467 is plenty) and the design is fresher. I know there is going to be a new Octavia in 2020 but this Scala is fine.
Skoda Octavia seems to be the Uber and Taxi driver winner in Europe. It is certainly the most common single model I encounter in Spain and Portugal. And I'm always impressed. It's big enough, comfortable, quiet, smooth and seems to last 300,000km without any effort.
This car is on same platform like Polo or Ibiza but Scala is more bigger for example bigger than Golf. So you have the best for your money, big car for good price and of course better quality than Polo and Ibiza.

@@altern8tive basically new cars with this kind of prices not worth to pay especially for low-middle class in less developed countries who have shitty monthly incomes!! it is much better deal to buy 2-4 year old car for 40-50% price of new (smaller)car as Scala which are confection car at the end of day with interior &exterior!!
Current model Golf estate driver here. I looked at an entry level spec Scala in the dealership when they first arrived a couple of months ago and was really impressed with the base spec car. A big step up from the Rapid. And you finally get all the tech you can get in bigger cars, if you want it. I consider stepping down to the Scala and save some cash, when my current lease has run out next year. More leg room and quite enough boot space for me. And it will fit better in my narrow garage next to my motorcycle. Next gen Golf looks promising and offers a PHEV option. And then there's the new Octavia yet to come out. It will be a tough choice...
Many people in the comments talk about the ridiculous price of the Scala. Well, in Greece it starts from 14.900€ (1.0 and 95 bhp) and it can go up to 23.500€ (1.6 TDI and 116 bhp) for the top spec version with panoramic sunroof, two tone colour and every gimmick you like. So, I don't think it is expensive for what it offers. The only downside is the fact that the diesel engine comes only with the DSG and not with the 6 speed manual.
So in my country, skoda scala 1.0 tsi 110 hp, manual, in the highest spec (without options) is about 19000 euros...and if you catch a discount, you get a very good price...of course it's 4000 euros more expensive than a dacia sandero with same options, but the difference in quality is like you are comparing a vw golf to an audi a6

Who buys a non luxury hatchback for that kind of money? Yeah, ok, drop most of the expensive trim nobody ever buys, it'll still be a 25k car.
Actually you can spec this car to be even more expensive. This is a solid mid-level spec.
The car starts from 14k.... are you high?
Very uninspiring design.
The scala is so ugly…no match for the golf..
for 32000 euro or less you can buy 1 year old BMW 5 with no more then 20000-30000km and 190hp diesel engine which consume less and go faster then this shit of Škoda Scala
A Golf competitor that's even more bland. No thanks.
