      prices are higher across the board in auto industry due to stricter eco regulations and added safety equipment - new octavia is slightly more expensive than the old one while bringing more tech and interior space
      it's still a good buy - if you disagree, do name a better buy than octavia

    As an owner of a 2017 Octavia Kombi in Ambition trim(In Poland), I am more impressed with the previous generation then this new one. I think the mk4 is overpriced, Skoda is about value and at almost 28Euro for the base model, I just sent see the value anymore.

    Love the useful features like the usb socket for a dashcam, all cars should be made with that today, front and rear otherwise running a cable is highly awkward and unsightly. The screen should always be placed above the vents for safety, so you dont look down too far while driving.
    Great review Marek (please remove the music)

    I have driven the new Octavia and i couldn't get over the fact how lousy it was to drive. Also interior wasn't half as nice in real life as it looked on pictures. And I absolutely hated the fact that it has no separated HVAC controls. And to top it all it was pretty expensive. All in all I think the previous model was better at what it's supposed to be. New model's premium aspirations are completely unrealistic.

    As with previous generations, Octavia is a fleet car, companies buy it for about half of the list price. The company often makes profit on second hand sale, lol. No private buyer should buy this crap for a price of Ceed SW+life time service costs. Appreciate Marek's honest review, watching UK reviews gives me headache - can't believe some people call this engine "punchy", average emision victim.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes we all fall in the trap of repeating certain things. A diesel is usually "punchy" vs. a "gutless" normally aspirated engine, etc. I especially like when they say a car is "taut" :)

    I would take this over the new Golf estate as the spy shots show the estate looks really bad and I prefer the interior on this by a lot especially since the golf is cost cutting now too. But it just doesn't seem as much of a complete product as some other Skoda models? In the size class if I didn't need an estate I'd still go Scala.

    The key issue happens in my Superb. You have to keep your phone well away from the key. I have the top audio screen on mine. Server also times in the past three years it has blanked out, lost sat nav or Apple Music. Also, I think the price of the yearly subscription for the connected services is ridiculous. £75 for a few bits of info and google maps is a lot for a family. Otherwise, I’d order the new model this year if Skoda hadn’t gotten so greedy. They have cut many of the standard luxuries from the equivalent trim, relegating them to the expensive options list. I ordered DCC with this car. It has proved to be a total waste of nearly £1k

  • @sergeyeremin8764

    Seems that vag are becoming lazy about making their cars- errors, bugs, etc. But worst of all - they copy-paste a lot of stuff from « elder » models - Skoda and Seat from VW, VW from Audi and on, and therefore the bugs are reproduced . Noisy Suspension at low speeds on bumpy roads with DCC option looks like a « trademark » on new Skodas. The issues Marek mentioned in his ps are very common to those I face in Superb mark IV which had been released a year ago. Same applies to Scala and new golf - they are raw. What I know for certain, my next car will not be a Vag (although Porsche will do)))

    Rear reminds Avensis, agree with that. For test car price I think it is possible to buy similar size from premium segment. Maybe relatively high price to encourage Scala sales?

    I can't understand the obsession with Skoda's in Poland it's never a car to aspire to regardless of spec (my friend here in pl has a superb as a company car and he said he would never use his own money to buy one)
    Skoda in Poland are like Audi in other countries, nearly always leased (WE plates) and 10 cm from the rear bumper of your car pretending that your Cayenne gts is getting in the way of their 1.0 fabia despite the queue of 20 trucks ahead :)
    Decent videos mate and really enjoy your reviews.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TBH I also have no idea why a normal person would be excited by or want one. It's a popular fleet car here, so maybe it's an aspiration thing for people, who don't have what they consider to be a fancy job with a company car.
      And yes, a Skoda is always the fastest, especially with a CB radio antenna on the roof :)

    Yet another spot-on review, great information and focus on what's really important, and not only praise.
    I would like to add a suggestion... It's please don't say: H-U-D! It's HUD. Or just say the full wording - head-up-display - it's rather confusing, especially for people who are less knowledgeable about cars.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      H.U.D. suggests it's an acronym, like A.B.S. not abs (something I clearly lack :) ). I know some motoring journalists say hud, but I choose to disagree :)

    • @RatimirRS
      @RatimirRS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarekDrives And you're absolutely right - it's the same with LED - my suggestion is purely based on consistency, because of the way vast majority of motor journalists pronounce it.

    I agree. I tested "same" car 2,0 TDI Style and this car is horrible. Noisy, bad suspension with torsion bar on rear axle, ugly cheap plastic interior, shiny Chinese elements, sharp middle console make my knee cry, engine works in stupidly low revs or stupidly high, transmission is jerky, touch controls are not great and so on... So I gave a chance to another brands and finally I choose Peugeot 508 SW GT 2,0 HDI with smooth and strong engine, smooth and logically shifting transmission with torque convertor, quiet interior even in higher speeds, great adaptive suspension with multi-link, special interior with premium materials, functional ACC, Stop&Go, Lane assist, flawless traffic sign recognition, functional voice control, fantastic Night Vision, real massage and real Alcantara seats, 13cm wider boot and so on... And the best, for the same price as this Octavia, because Peugeot give you nice discount and Skoda don't, at least in our country... 508 is not without flaws, but this fight was clear immediately.
