Your trip is likely one of the best first approaches to this unimaginable land... soft, well held and directed, with a comfort level, that makes the culture shock more easy to digest... ...everything feels different: the plains, the amazing trees, foreign birds song, and of course the wild life (and how close you can get to the animals in a car), and I'm sure the smells as well, of the earth but also of the wild animals, and as you mentioned, unknown magical spices in the food! - a bit like having landed on a different planet... Your measurement examples of the Park give some idea for comparison... like a 12 hours drive is also about what you need to cross my whole home country of Germany (and this is only the Park - the overall Serengeti is still much bigger!). And I can imagine how a vague deep feeling emerges, when you are exposed to this nature, of how it had been in the ancient times all across the planet... it sits deep in our genes and memory banks... the surroundings on a bigger scale are also super impressive: to the west there is Lake Victoria, Africa's biggest lake by area, and to the east there is the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro! I'm curious if you will see at least one of those on your ongoing journey. ...this was venturing to a different world, Olive - I absolutely loved it! Thanks so much for sharing! 💖
Hello Jorn! 👋 Thank you so much! 💛 It truly did feel like stepping into a different world, but at the same time, there’s this strange sense of familiarity I felt both times I visited Africa (both in Tanzania). 🐾 I’d absolutely love to explore so much more of this incredible continent in the future... it’s the one I feel most drawn to. The closest I got to Kilimanjaro was visiting Materuni Waterfall 💧, and it was fascinating to see how dramatically the landscapes and environment changed as we got closer. 🌄🌿

I always remember my time in Tanzania and the Americans who woke me up at 5am, they were heading out for an early morning run, only the day before we'd passed packs of hyenas, lions and warned them how ferocious these animals and the dangers. They stood arguing with me saying they always had an early moring run and it would be too hot later in the day and that we should have a fenced off area to keep the animals out.
How much per day? Jambo. I was born and raised there. I like your enthusiasm(sp?) for animals and the country. 2.1m wildebeest, UP from 200K in 1960 - they all have their babies at the SAME time, so lions etc swamped. (Only 1200 lions in the Serngeti) Our family knew Mwalimu, the first President - my Mother helped him get started. Now a Saint! Qua heri, sasa!
Jambo! My partner was there for work, and I joined him for a couple of days, so I’m not entirely sure about the daily rates. They do customized packages with game drives included, so it really depends. I do know you have to pay around $150 per night in park fees if you stay inside the national parks, which helps with conservation and limits tourism to protect the environment. It’s fascinating how wildebeest numbers have grown so much since 1960! 🐃 Your family’s connection to Mwalimu sounds incredible! 😊

I went to school in the Usamabras; 5500ft up, so "Perpetual Spring" - 60+F at night, 80F in the day/ Lush old mountains. "Kwamungu" ("To God") nearby - shrouded always in cloud like heaven! The graves of the Kings of the Wa-Samba up there.....
