I was there 23 years ago and it was neglected but in better condition than it is now.

Yeah, it’s really sad to see how it’s been neglected for so long. There seem to be some projects in place now, and some renovations have already started, so hopefully, things will start to improve soon. 🤞

Another interesting video. I enjoy your recent theme of visiting and showing unusual locales and experiences beyond the usual travel venues. I would enjoy a brief inclusion of your companions and interactions, if they’re willing. Your mom on the top of the White Cross Trail would have been fun for us to experience along with her. I was holding tight to my chair! Your perspective of the Communist Era is interesting. Born afterwards yet living amidst its monuments and ruins. That holds true to the imperial histories of Romania. Living in the western 🇺🇸, there is little that is more than 100-150 years old. Speaking of years … may I say you belie your age. I placed you at 25-27, not mid 30s. Looking very good, Olive. Cheers!

Thank you so much! ❤ My mom decided she didn’t want to be in the video, so I respected her decision. However, I would love to include more people in my videos in the future and share their stories when opportunities come along.
Growing up, I didn’t actually realize how much the Communist Era continued to influence our lives into the ‘90s, which makes sense, given it’s all my parents’ generation had experienced, along with other transitions (like holiday destinations).
As a European, I still find it fascinating to visit the US, even though it doesn't have the same extensive history as Europe. 😁 Aaand regarding my age, thank you! I appreciate the compliment! 😊

    dear Olive 🫒
this was done very beautifully, sensitively and honestly, how you lead us through a place, that has an impressive & significant past, with so much Roman influence (as so many places have all over Europe), and then got earmarked by the communist area, with its chicken coop-ish hotels and infrastructure... a melancholic 'fog-of-history' lying over all of it... it made me feel very controversial emotions.. there is sadness, yes, but also almost a relief, that it will not so easily be swallowed by the devastating mass tourism, that hijacks and destroys so many cultural habitats all over Europe and the Mediterranean...
...its again an 'Olive-solo', as your other clips also mostly are... I would have loved to see your mother at least briefly (as well as your boyfriend in Italy)... but I also highly respect the protective veil, which hides them... maybe they don't want to be shown... or is it your preventive choice? Which-ever - its of course completely okay! It just doesn't show you much in the social context, that you were probably experiencing on those trips...
I have my own challenges with it, as I work with a lot of visitors of the eco-community, where I live, and privacy protection is so omnipresent, and law-enforced (of course sadly for good reasons in our iNet swamped and infiltrated lives), that I don't publish any photos anymore, that show me with visitors... it all feels a bit sad and... paranoid... those are the parameters of our world in the 21st century...
however: I do love and value deeply your videos, Olive, and your showing/exposing of yourself in it, and your feelings about what you experience... thank you for that... 💖😼

      Dear Jörn,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reflections! 😊 Your comment made me realise something interesting. I initially focused on the nostalgia and sadness because the history is so palpable... you can see it everywhere, and it's hard not to think about it. However, your perspective also made me appreciate how peaceful and untouched by mass tourism the place has become. 🌿 Romania is one of the few countries without overwhelming tourism, and I need to appreciate that more often. You can have entire trails to yourself, wild camp, and generally enjoy a peaceful time in nature. 🌲🏕
As for my mom and boyfriend, my mom really didn't want to be in the video, so I respected her wishes. My boyfriend also preferred not to be in the videos, although he's a bit more open to it than her. I do understand the social interaction aspect, and I agree it would be nice to include that in my videos. In the future, I would love to share people’s stories as well, not just the stories of places, and when opportunities come along, I will definitely include that. 😊
I agree that the whole issue of privacy protection is a bit sad.. it seems like people interpret it differently. On one hand, sharing moments and stories can be empowering... it provides a platform for expression, connection, and broadening horizons beyond our immediate environment. However, it also exposes people to criticism, judgement, and sometimes safety concerns, and can also be too much of a distraction from their present reality. I see both perspectives, though I relate more to the first one. 😊
I'm really hoping this channel will grow enough to give me the freedom to explore and share much more in the future, as I'm currently a bit restricted in terms of time and budget. But there are always ways around it, and I am really grateful for that! 🌍✈
Thank you so much for your kind words and continuous support! 💛🌄🌞

@@oliviaelenat ...happy to hear your inspiration, Olive 🫒🌟🤩
...especially about your plans to interview people in the future and share their stories - I think that can be very exciting and enriching! I have to think back immediately to your walks... the Via Transilvanica can certainly do with some more exposure to interested folks, and B&Bs as well as any related businesses on the way might be quite happy about that opportunity to share about their lives and vision for 'the via'. 😄
But also, if you at some point walk another camino (maybe with a better weather window?!), that could be a good addition!
      Rave on, Olive! 🧡🚶🌄🎤😎
