- The NHS infected blood scandal had already been called the worst treatment disaster in the history of the UK health service.

Today we learned it could largely have been avoided.
The inquiry chair, Sir Brian Langstaff, pointed to the sheer scale of the tragedy, calling it "horrifying".
At least 30,000 people were infected with Hepatitis C over the 1970s and 1980s. And 1,300 were infected with HIV, including 380 children. More than 3,000 people are estimated to have died from infections attributed to blood or blood products, many of them haemophiliacs, given tainted blood as part of their treatment.

I am an American and can’t understand why the people are satisfied with an apology. Did anyone go to jail? How can the school that experimented on children still even be open. It should have been shut down and those teachers, administrators, and doctors should have been stripped of their credentials and spent time in prison!
These were blood products bought from the USA - why is there no mention of this or accountability from the US? if you sell something you expect it to be fit for human consumption. If the boot had been on the other foot US lawyers would have been screaming and demanding from the UK and British products would have been burned in the streets.

The UK is a lawless country. My sister who was an NHS nurse was given overdose morphine. She went into a coma. We were deterred from removing to a private hospital. Instead, they added oxycodone the next morning. We pleaded help. The doctors refused and she died at King George hospital in Ilford, UK. We asked for hospital records. They destroyed everything and lied that our sister was in a coma before she was brought to the hospital. NHS is a death trap. As an American nurse, it was the most inhumane treatment I had ever witnessed. No respect for a patients request. Unfortunately there is immunity for the doctors

Same happened in Australia in 70s. I had blood transfusions during pregnancy and was called in to be tested for HIV. Some of my doctors patients ended up with HIV. I remember being so distressed for 3 weeks waiting for results. This is appalling and it’s taken 40 years to surface. My heart goes out to those affected!

The same happened in New Zealand. My friends 15 yr old son who had leukaemia got hep C. When she queried the fact that he contracted it from contaminated blood she was told it was going to cost 6 million dollars for a machine to test the blood for it, and they didn’t have money for it.

My father had a colonoscopy as an outpatient in a Vancouver BC Hospital in 2000. There was an “oopsie” - he bled so much he req’d NINE units of blood. Yes - for an outpt procedure issue. One of the units was tainted with hepatits B. My Dad contracted acute, then chronic Hepatitis, then proceeded to Cirrhosis/ Liver Failure with multiple other diseases developing (Diabetes, Colitis, etc). He died in 2007 after years of illness. No apologies, No transplant offered - We were told that since he was 70 that he wasn’t eligible to be put on the transplant list!!!!! My gosh - the horrors we walked out. My sisters & I took care of him (while we worked FT - I was a Prof of Nsg so was comfortable with the treatments & the complex & highly restrictive diets. We felt like we let him down every time we took him to hospital for treatments. No apologies, No compensation, No acknowledgment of the system failure

Yes, in the 80s kids were experimented on by being put in schools with no classroom walls and no teaching. The schools were known as open plan and the 'teaching' methodology was called child centred learning. Kids started secondary school unable to read and write. The comprehensive system began as an experiment in Bristol. No consent was obtained nor did parents have the option of choosing a different school. The lockdowns were an experiment really and not one that would get past an ethics committee- 'pandemic' allowed ethics committees to be bypassed. USA's labs in various countries around the world... Doctors knew all long. A simple search on NIH turns up 1970+ dated peer reviewed medical papers on the transmission of hepatitis from Factor VIII. Not to mention that the bottles it came in mention there is a risk of hepatitis transmission. This was a wholesale gross failure of the NHS, and the CDC (they were informed by the doctor who developed the Hyland method). I’m horrified this happened in the UK. How did doctors experiment on children???? Expose all the names and remove titles (ie Sir) that were ‘earned’. This is a disgrace.
With permission of the head teacher I suppose. Nitty Noras would do anything to kids for money. Bypassed ethics committees? The NHS has a reputation for being unethical and sweeping things under the carpet. The NHS employs solicitors, as some people can afford to sue for medical negligence.
