    Nice look in the box. Kursk should actually have the Panther ausf D but there isn't a plastic kit for it so Battlefront has used the A. The Panther ausf A missed Operation Citadel but made it to the Eastern Front later...

    Great video guys, your channel has made me dive back into FoW head first after dropping it in V3 due to the awful Soviet rules. Also, your comment on rotate to face is a must, it makes such a difference when using forward firing tanks (and gun teams). It really opens up great flanking options, and balances out these units. Gun teams rotating often mean you can then escape their field of fire next turn. Skipping this step is just soft cheating 😂

    I always love the positivity of your videos lads. I've only been into FOW for a year now, but I think the Soviet faction is poorly designed and lacks quality and variety in the models range. I find even the free resin one I can print out being much better quality. It'd be nice to see you guys play a game with the combined units included in the two sets and see how that goes.

      Those very models are on the painitng station as we speak. Then again so are a mountain of other models, but this is defniitely something we hope to do.

    Always enjoy these videos. Appreciate the perspective. Think I need this, only just to build and paint them. What would be a good set for support vehicles, like armored cars, artillery, etc?

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely want at least one unit of infantry in Flames of War. Something to dig in on a home objective that is near impossible to shift if it just hunkers down. After that, some arty and some recon for forward deployment. Fom there, your golden.

    Dang, if they haven't updated the points, at 100 points, the Su-85s at 4 tanks take you over by 14 points. Drop them down to 2, which you shouldn't due to morale/last stand and you can bring in some infantry or more Valentines.
    The Flamethrower Panzer 3 card is in the Panzer 3 (late) box & the rules are in Ghost Panzer/Eastern Front

    I am doing two T34 battalion boxes. The treads don’t fit snug and I cheeked them forward and a pain when doing the fenders. The exhaust pieces suck gluing. And one box is a lighter plastic and a little translucent but parts like the exhaust don’t mount easily on the other bodies. And I’m halfway through 42 tanks but not thrilled with the model. Not that I can design a model. Overall I’ll live and we’ll have a 100+ Kursk game at HISTORICON 2024.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage

      The t-34 is one of their oldest kits - if they ever start remaking some I think this is a strong candidate.

    Looks like a great set but the Panthers and PZIV in Zimmerit appears to be a bit too early and it wasn't used till after the Kursk period and can find no evidence for it being widely used till after September 43.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they are probably a bit early for Kursk, but it is nice to offer different models to those in the desert war sets, which people in many cases already have.

    having rcently purchased this box set I noticed that the art work shows 2 Valentines with 6pdr and one with 2 pdr .
    What would be the appropriate gun for Kursk ?
    would it better to have the 2 pdr and the Besa M/G than just a better penetration of the 6 pdr?
    thanks

  • @LCdrThrawn
    @LCdrThrawn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. Thank you for this review. Purchased the starter and played some rounds with my son. Unfortunately the box is not really balanced well. No chance for the Soviets against the german Panthers or Tiger. T-34 and Valentine are useless. 60 cm range against 100cm of the German Panther and Tiger. Even Panzer 3 and 4 shoot at 70 and 80cm. So you have to move into range with the Soviets. But if you move you can‘t fire or can‘t hit because of the german 4+1 camo+1 range +1 overworked =7 to hit. Lol. And you are not able to pen front. So you have to move further around. Germans can stay or easily Blitz, shoot double shots and need only a 4. Soviet Armor roll useless because of 14 Antitank. Playing Soviets is frustrating and we stopped playing the game now. 😢

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say three things - 1: Playing late War Soviets you can access much heavier gear than is in this particular box. This just gets you started. 2: You really need to work onto the flanks when facing harder armoured targets. If you have no real effect from the front you can make a fairly long move with a dash. 3: This is a pints balanced objective game. You will probably find weaker tanks still win because the more expensive ones don't cover enough of the board and are vulnerable in the side.
      I hope these things can help you with future games.
