  • Kaiser & Wooly Mike unbox and review the new mid-war starter set Kasserine for Flames of war. A great value starter set for North African WW2 battles themed around this infamous first major engagement between the rival forces. We also share some photos form the Bovington Tank Museum and models form our own collection that come in this set.

    Have to say really impressed with them giving you multiple turrets or Hull types. Other companies really try to "Nickel and dime" in that regard.

    Very interesting unboxing. Very tempting, but too much on my modelling / painting table; I will resist, I must resist..... at least for the time being.

    Both of these are brilliant sets. I definitely see the lack of infantry as a plus for a FoW Starter Set. Tanks are fun to build and play. There's the near-instant gratification you need in a good starter set. Building FoW infantry can be intimidating and daunting, especially if you're not sure which models should go on which base. As you say, the rules complexity increases too. I know a couple of players who received Hit The Beach sets, built the tanks and guns and left the infantry sprues untouched for months. These sets are a much better and more approachable offering.

      Wow, i typed just the opposite but for all the reasons you said is why i figured they went down this route. I know people love their tanks, thus the success of WoT.

    Well done gents, that was a very detailed and interesting unboxing and review.
    Something I would love to see is some videos where you give tips on how to expand on these starter boxes. Perhaps a new video series? :)

    Building the kits now. Pretty simple except for the Lee and Sherman tanks are a bit fiddly fitting the bodies to the undercarriages correctly. Excellent value for all you get.

    As long as they keep the Hit the Beach box as an option, i think that’s good. I also thought they could make starter sets that can be ordered through their site that are a variety, but aren’t packaged for retail…not good for you guys I suppose though.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am pretty sure they plan to keep Hit Tthe Beach - there are two sets for North Africa, and more coming for the East later in the year - I think this is their new entry level package format rather than the fury type 5 tank box - which is amazing going forward.

    Nice mix of allied vehicles that can be made up as a force of US Shermans, Lees, and Stuarts; or British Shermans, Grants, and Honeys.

    Any rookies reading when building cut your piece off the sprue, file down burs, and dry fit or practice before using plastic cement -not super glue -allows a bit of time to shift into position and doesnt stick fingers together.

    Looks like a good balanced forces. Been thinking of picking it up. But I am thinking of building Midwar British. Know that I have the North Africa book

      Poinbts are a bit off on the German side, but I always found German Panzers in the mid-war a bit over-pointed.

    • @lorddraconum
      @lorddraconum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModellingforAdvantage Oh I might throw the Panzers into a Romania or Hungarian list. I bought the starter to covert the Americans into British. The video was a great help. Just starting into the game with Ax Anax. I am working on Finnish, British and one of the other armies. Not sure if I want Romania or Hungarian for the german side of the box. Thanks for the info.

    Bigger problems in the world, but it’s a bummer that these last two boxes were essentially all armor and no infantry. But i do like that they put the tokens on there. Sure punchboard would be better, but at least they’re there.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean, but for those starting I think leaving the infantry out keeps it quick and simple - and that is what an intro game should be.

    Watching this as Putin goes crazy, trying to distract myself. It’s weird how making little plastic tanks is distracting me from real tanks in a real war. Thanks for giving me and my dad an escape, we love your show and flames or war!

    If you use the units on back of box, the points are 74 German and 58 for American?

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite possibly - these starter sets are not points equal by any means. That said, most mid-war panzers are really over-costed in pints IMO.

      I honestly have no idea mate. Check out Harry over at Fog of War, he's in Australia and can probably point you in the right direction.

    Buy some skinny and very sharp sidecutters that are made for Gundam kits and you will never break a piece again clipping it out. Everything else is pretty much crap.
