    I got boxed in from the front and behind my trailer forcing me to angle my escape route. 28 ft Weekend Warrior did not like the angle and buried my dually tires. Called in for reinforcements to my other superduty with 42" pitbull rockers with full ARB air lockers setup with a monster hook and 14" wide yellow pull strap.

      for a recovery where he didn't have to use momentum, waaay over kill. it seemed more of a really strong tow strap, not a recovery strap. pretty short for a recovery strap of that level. but i'd rather have too much than too little.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473

      It can be done with proper momentum, angle and tire deflation.

      I tow my 18k pound out in the sand every month. It's not a problem. The problem is ppl don't know how to air down. Bunch of idiots

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +andrew rapozo I did air down from 90lbs on-road to 30lbs here in the sand. It was working fine with the load and I believe I would of been fine getting out of my camping spot had I been able to depart at the direction I was pointed, however people setup camp directly next to us and blocked my exit. I had to reverse and pivot my trailer on an incline and these are very unfavorable maneuvers. I have a question for you, do you deflate your trailer tires as well or is that make it more difficult?

    • @mk2rado
      @mk2rado 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Rey Gabriel Garcia yea I hate when ppl do that. Next time try 20psi. That extra 10 pounds makes a world of difference. I have the same truck. Or if your worried about popping a bead try 23-25psi.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is why I stay on the pavement with my 2wd. People with 4wd tend to get stuck more often as they like to test their limits. They see soft ground, they say "I'll put it in 4wd and see if I can make it through." I see soft ground and say "no." My way works pretty good. I don't get stuck.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clarence Aaron Jones Clarence, of course you would want to stay on secure pavement with 2wd, I would too because as a 4x4 enthusiast I know the probability of getting stuck is high. You stay on the pavement because you know that you will get stuck and you fear you will not be able to recover your truck. With 4x4 enthusiasts, we gain confidence in our rigs capabilities and do not fear the risk because we know how to recover if we make a learning mistake as I did in this video. Number one I did not air down my tires enough, this was my first trip with this rig and trailer so I did not know how much i could air it down. Second my exit path became blocked by new arriving campers and forced me to maneuver in reverse to change direction. That sharp angle in the sand plus the abundant air pressure in my tires and weight were all contributing to loss of traction. I have returned since this incident and have not been stuck since. People get stuck if they do not air down enough, make sharp angle direction changes, or attempt to travel up steep inclines.

      @reygabrielgarcia3473  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Steinwaygrande you are correct, however being that these tires are commercial grade and 120psi for max load, I dropped them down to 30psi. This was the first trip on sand with these tires and I was being cautious of how low I could go without causing the tire bead to separate from the rim and then having a bigger problem. I also had concerns of dropping down too low and compromising the structure of the tire leading to a possible issue later while hauling on the road. But as I digress, I am a true believer in that dropping the pressure will save the day and haven't popped a tire bead so far. I tell my buddies to air down more and they get scared of popping the beads.

    How come most people at Pismo don't air down? I air my f250 diesel down to 14 lbs. and my 5ver down to 18 lbs. and can tow my camper all over the beach with no problems. The sand on Long Island, NY beaches is really soft.

    • @portishead600
      @portishead600 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Ennis well, I actually did air down, but I aired on the side of caution (pun intended) of airing down too much in fear of popping the bead off these tires. First time taking 19.5's into the sand. But I believe "most people" at Pismo Beach, Ca dont air down because when you enter the beach the sand is rather dense and hard packed. You travel along this hard pack for a good 1/4 mile. So people feel wrong in driving that far of a distance on hard packed sand on really low inflated tires hauling 10k lb or more trailers not to mention they get lazy because of how long it would take to air down 12 tires if you have a dually with a triple axle trailer. If you have the proper deflation tools, yes it speeds up the process, but for instance on my black ford on 42'" tires - that would take minimum of 10 minutes per tire to deflate thats 40 minutes just on the truck to prep before getting to the camp sites. People are eager to get a site that they dont bother with this most important part. I've learned my lesson and rather take the time to air down all 12 tires now rather than waste more time stuck.

    • @adamennis7453
      @adamennis7453 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      portishead600 It looks like fun. Pismo is on my cross country list of places to check out. It is a pain airing down. I bought screw on deflators, I put them on then they will stop at the set psi. You can't beat camping on the beach.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Ennis yes I saw those deflators and I was kind of skeptical about how accurate they are and the amount of time they take. I bought the ARB deflator which is supposed to work faster and allows you to accurately air down with a psi gauge incorporated. But now I believe the individual tire deflators are a better way to go due to its simplicity to attach and walk away allowing one individual to quickly attach to all six of my tires on a DRW truck and wait insist he truck while the deflators work. I'm still debating wether I need to deflate the 6 trailer tires as well. I mean one one argument you have a larger foot print making the trailer weight spread out more and float atop of the sand, on another argument deflated tires are hard to move rather than fully I flared tires? Which do you feel is best ?!?

    • @portishead600
      @portishead600 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No not really, the can actually do a lot better. It all has to do with the amount of air you let out of the tires. We didn't air down enough and as a result we got buried down. More contact patch the better. Lessons learned, don't be afraid to air down !

    • @mrb24681
      @mrb24681 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a dually as well, you can only air down so much right? You don't want the rear tires touching, or do you have a big enough spacer in the back?

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @michael butler I don't see why if your duallies are touching would matter? They are on the same spinning axle so it's not like they are going to spin a different rates. The main caution of letting too much air is popping the tire bead off the rim and/or ruin the side plies.

    People don’t realize how bad it is to take a truck onto sand. I have worked on many trucks that have been damaged by doing this. 4x4 is for emergencies only. Knowing that you can get stuck is not an emergency it’s just being stupid

    Gotta sweat the details - lockers? Deflate tires? Air pump to inflate? Monster-HD pull strap? Shovels? Traction ramps? Removed
    all low-hanging obstructing items? Increase the approach angle of any towed vehicles? Pre-walked the travel line to ck out the route/obstacles? Plenty of cash to tip those that pull your stuff out when you get in over your abilities??

    Along with trying to take THAT trailer where it didn't belong," Dualies" DON'T provide the "Floatation" some would believe.In reality they become THE problem.The two tires,close together,create a shearing effect, DECREASING the individual tires floatation.They can also increase the hazards in slippery conditions by NOT providing enough traction. PSI on a Hard Surface is required for that.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      have you every been to Pismo Beach? there are thousands upon thousands of trailers on the beach year round. Its been done and can be done again. I just messed up this particular time due to being forced to backup going uphill in order to leave because someone blocked my exit path and I didnt air my tires down enough.

  • @Blbbbb

    Amazed that they even think of towing such heavy vans on the beach with soft sand patches. I suppose it gives tow people a regular income! Lol

    Curious what psi were in those tires of the truck and the trailer. Amazing what dropping it down to 15psi will do from 40. Used to run 10psi all day long in Dunes in Oregon.

    • @reygabrielgarcia3473
      @reygabrielgarcia3473  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      truck tires are 130 max psi aired down to 35, trailer 80 max psi aired down to 20 - not my first time airing down in the sand but it was the first time with this truck which has 19.5 diameter rims which are similar to 22.5 and 24.5 semi truck wheels which apparently have no locking bead on the tire and can easily come off rim if air pressure is too low. which is why i was cautious to air down too much and cause more issues.
