MAKE DOUBLE STICK MALLETS: DIY DRUMMER

    MATERIALS:
    Drum sticks, Felt, thread, electricians tape, Floor Protection Felt (Sticky-back), Clear Nail Polish
    Tools:
    Scissor, Needle, Ruler, Felt Marker Pen
    STEPS:
    1) Measure and cut two, 3 x 3 inch felt squares
    2) Fold in half and sew open edge together
    3) Use running stitch to cinch closed tube 1/2" from end
    4) Slide onto Butt-End of stick and tightly wrap string around stick
    ****line stitches up 1" from end
    5) Adhere felt and string to stick using electricians tape
    6) Build up mallet end of stick with electricians tape
    ****finished outside mallet diameter should be 3/4"
    7) Finish outside of tape mallet head with Floor Protection Felt
    8) Roll felt tube back up over mallet end
    9) Use running stitch to cinch top opening closed like a sleeping bag cover
    10) Tie knot and seal with Clear Nail Polish

      @@diydrummer235 omg I didn't think you would respond! I have a quick question. How durable you would say the DIY mallets are? (Or does that depend on how good my DIY skills are lol... 😅)

      @@specialsauce. Thanks for comments and questions! I guess it partly depends on your materials and what you’re using the mallets for. Generally coated heads are tough on mallets. I used upholstery thread when sewing mallets for durability. I have had that pair from the video in my stick bag since I made them. Gets moderate use and you can’t tell they’ve been used. I am a gentle player though :). Good news is they’re cheap to make! :)

    good one! I just wrapped wool around and around the end of the drumstick; this method might last a bit longer. Thanks for the info.
