  • “Form follows function” is a timeless piece of wisdom in need of an altruistic update. This talk discusses that even while designing intentionally for function, we must consider the negative repercussions that our designs and decisions have on people and the planet. Further, adapting to a changing world requires working together, and considering everyone. By internalizing the concepts of form, function and fallout, we discover a simple framework with which to design our lives, while embracing the uncomfortable reality that our actions have both positive and negative impacts. An architectural designer and free range philosopher inhabiting a
large tiny house in the woods of York, ME with his beautiful life
partner and three radical children. After crisscrossing the country
via car, van and hitchhiking, Chris settled down in Vermont where he was profoundly influenced by the spirit of self-sufficiency, artistic expression and whole system thinking. Writing music and touring the Northeast with a Burlington, VT based hip-hop band established a creative channel that has permeated his work as a
musician, designer, metal fabricator, writer, and systems integrator. Experiencing the Permaculture Design Certificate course at
Yestermorrow Design/Build School was a pivotal moment that set him off in pursuit of finding ways to make a positive impact in the
world. Chris serves as Program Director for North Atlantic Services based in Epping, NH and operates Reflective Design works, an architectural design studio focused on residential projects in the Seacoast area. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Wait, iPhone's are already compostable aren't they? Take iPhone, remove case (just to add another step), dig hole in dirt somewhere on Earth, place iPhone in hole, cover with dirt removed in previous step, wait 1.34 million years...
