- Today we go back to the old school 2012 edition of Longrow 18. This was Dustin's first Longrow 18 and perhaps even first Longrow. These are believed to have been all ex sherry casks and as always come in at 46%, natural color, and non chill filtered.

I happened to stumble upon a 2013 bottling back in 2019. I still have a fourth of it left. I'm trying to savore every drop because this is so delicious. It reminds me of this Anthon Berg Danish chocolates (dark chocolate covered Madiera soaked plum and marzipan). I also have the 2021 & 2022 editions, but the 2013 is my favorite of the three.
Hi guys, haven't tried that one, but several ones only over the years, didn't like much the 2011 from a friend's collection (too briny & iodinish, bit winey, sour, metallic & bitter for me-though still decent stuff of course...), but absolutely love the first release of this expression I have (2008 release) which is said to have older content, and which have an incredible balance some might not like (discrete funk only, way less sherry casks than the one you're having on my guess/on what I hear) but i do love it a lot (too bad, no back up bottle). Slainte !
Very pungent leather shoes. The 'Faces of Death' reference had me LMFAO!! That had to be like 25 years ago. Named our second show dog after one of the FOD segments.
Hey Dustin, just fyi, a store we’re familiar with that is known for removing corks, so to speak, has two bottles of springbank 25 sitting on the shelf in the scotch section. They raised the price by $250 from last year
Those are gonna sit, though they're "just" 200 more than last year 1050 to 1250. But no chance in hell I'll do it. I'm sure they'll eventually sell to someone who's buying them JUST to get a bourbon.
@@topshelfdustin3060 and unfortunately they don’t put out an good bourbon on the points shelf anymore. Haven’t for ages it feels like.
Big fan of Longrow 18. Finished one bottled in 2015 awhile back, still have 2 unopened bottles of the 2017 version, and am currently drinking the 2021 version. Heading to Campbeltown in 3 weeks , getting excited! Glad you reviewed an older version.
the first release of longrow 18 is back to 2008 (the 1974 vintage one doesnt count), that one contained some older juice such as cask from 1987.
and my experience for the springbank product of pre-floor malting era, the peat of longrow is gentler and elegant.
1993-1994 is kinda inconsistence, dirty/funky, i guess they are still adjucting their floor malting, since they didnt do it for 30 years.
thats why the feedback of early 2000s young springbank expressions are mixed. I assume poor wood management and inconsistence from floor malting.
I got to try a 20 something year old IB from whisky mystery that was distilled during the period they weren't floor malting. I'd have guessed clynelish not springbank. And yes their certainly was an era of poor cask that this one might roughly be falling into. Still good stuff imo.
Great review! I still have 1/4 bottle of a 2017 that I have been nursing as I will not likely see another and the prices are insane now.
I’ve had the 2015, 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2022 versions of Longrow 18 and the 2015 was by far the best (2017 was the worst by far). The 2015 was also believed to be 100% sherry but beautiful orchard fruits with the perfect amount peat. This one sounds interesting.
Yum! I found a bar in town that has Longrow NAS and Kilkerran 12... been stopping in a lot since Oregon has zero SpringBank available in the entire state. :(
