I'm embarrassed to say the major issue from this episode (the sling) and from the Danish episode (the lug) were both on me. While we won't always address little labelling mistakes, we refuse to leave knowingly wrong information out there. I apologize for any confusion and I'm saddened to have two so close together after months without.
I think a reason the Krags are popular is that they exist in that time period where you could see the logic of the machinery on the exterior. The capsule magazine makes it look sophisticated and I have no doubt the smooth bolt action re-enforces the belief that this is a high quality weapon. It's sort of like the Battleship vs the Carrier, Battleships just looks menacing and sophisticated because it's bristling with guns all over it and has towering superstructures, while Carriers merely have deadly cargo concealed inside their hangers and the ship itself is more of a conceptual menace. Yes on paper the Carrier is the superior weapon but people will tend to favor getting a model of a Battleship over a Aircraft Carrier.
So, the very first pistol I ever purchased(a CZ75) was through a smalltown gun store a few miles away from where I live(unimportant-ville, Iowa). I get the email that my gun has arrived, so I drive to the store to pick it up. While waiting for the guy(whom I gushed about this channel to) to retrieve it from the back, i get to browsing through some of the old rifles they have for sale. Amidst a few other mauser derrivatives, I notice one with proofing marks that looked very familiar, but the tag just said "Mauser, unspecified." It's listed at $325, and while it was still in working order you could tell that this rifle had had a very hard life. Out of curiosity, i opened up youtube, pulled up this channel, and started scrolling through the thumbnails of the primer episodes. Boom. Plain as day, Serbian 1910. I love my CZ75, but damn it; I came real close to buying that Serbian after I figured out what it was.
I think I speak for all of fans here but thank you for your dedication to making sure your information is as correct as possible and making corrections as necessary, you guys are doing a great service in preserving firearms history and making it easy to digest. I and many others would never have heard of or even thought about many of these firearms and I appreciate the effort and personal sacrifices made in the name of preserving history

Interesting fact, when PO Ackley did his destructive testing on various rifles, the American Krag and the Lee Enfield took the same charge to destruct. He also tested several with various sketchy retempering, and even one with the locking lug ground off.

Since I am sure that questions about Norwegian Krag Jørgensen and safe ammunition will arise, I want to say a little about this. Norwegian Krag Jørgensen uses standard 6.5x55 mauser (also called 6.5x55 Swedish). But redused loads are to be used if condition is not confirmed good. In Norway, after WWII, Krag Jørgensen was mostly used for competitive shooting in the Voluntary Shooting Service (DFS). I belive a little about DFS (the Norwegian voluntary shooting service), is at its place. DFS is closely linked to the Norwegian Armed Forces and used and allows used military weapons used in the Norwegian Armed Forces (Krag Jørgensen, Kongsberg Mauser F1 and older editions of the Kongsberg Mauser, HK416 and ending this year HK AG3). Permitted calibers are 22lr, 5.6x45, 6.5x55 mauser/Scan, 7.62x51Nato (308w) and 7.62x63 (3006). The use of Krag Jørgensen in DFS entailed a lot of hard use and of many of the Krag rifles, and some of them were also abused with very hard field charges (to achieve benefits with less wind drift at long distances such as 600m). In the end, this became a little too much for some of the Krag rifles, they developed micro cracks and some ble up (I belive in the late 70s). Since DFS had mainly switched to Kongsberg Mauser (Converted and remanufactured K98 from wwII). And since these Krag rifles at that time were widely used for recruit shooters in the local shooting teams. DFS chose to reduce the pressure standard for Krag Jørgensen rifles used in DFS. This led to a downloaded version of 6.5x55 mauser, marked "For Krag Jørgensen". To make it completely clear, it is not recommended to shoot a Norwegian Krag Jørgensen with standard pressure 6.5x55 mauser, without the rifle being checked by a competent gunsmith. If it has been checked and found to be in order, there is nothing in the way of using standard 6.5x55 mauser in a Norwegian Krag Jørgensen. In the Norwegian voluntary shooting service (DFS), we also have a recruit round specially designed for young shooters. This is also in 6.5x55 mauser/scan, and is loaded with 100gr bullet and pressure that fits with the reduced Krag standard. As one understand, what preassure the amunition are loaded to for use in a Norwegian 6,5x55 mauser Krag Jørgensen, depends on confirmed condition. If not confirmed ok, use redused loads only.
My opinion from 48 hours ago has not changed: the Norwegian Krag hits a certain "sweet spot" for shooters. As was pointed out on a podcast I follow, when it comes to engineering, "if it looks right, it probably is right." The Krag looks fantastic and feels great in the hands.
You are absolutely right no rifle feels better in my hands, probably due to my great grandfather and grandfather who used them and the fact that my sample was instrumental in the sinking of the German battleship "Blucher" in 1940. The minor role of the torpedoes, canons and mortars here is not important, my present Lang Krag did the job...!!🚢💣
I am happy that you take pride in making it right. As a Norwegian I almost had to jump up and stand at attention when the Norwegian national anthem was played, when Mae shoot the Lang Krag. My great grandfather was issued a Lang Krag when on guard at the Swedish border in 1905, my grand father used his Lang Krag fighting Germans with the resistance during WW2, my father used a Garand and a US carbine when doing national service, I have used the HK AG3, MP 5, HK 416 and Glock during my soon to be 40 year of service! My Lang Krag was issued at Oscarsborg and was part of the sinking of the German battleship Blucher, the torpedoes, cannons and mortars had a minor role in the engagement. 💣 It is part of the story that my sample of the Lang Krag was at first issued as a Lang Krag and was lather transformed to a 1930 competition shooter with a different stock, a diopter sight and a better trigger. With some good help I have transformed it back to a Lang Krag keeping the trigger and the possibility for the diopter. So not a true collectors item but an awesome shooter. I will during this spring make a TH-cam video on my special edition of the Lang Krag. Thank you for your educational and awesome videos...!
Some years ago I was the "armorer" for a National Guard infantry company ( I was not an actual Armorer, I was the Nco detailed to deal with issuing to and receiving weapons from the troops) One weekend I come in and open the arms room to do accountability, and in one corner were two Springfields and two Krags. Never heard the real story of why they were there. I got to handle them a bit , but we of course had no ammo, no way to take them to the range.

That bolt handel is designet for stangshooting. The barrel has a lefthand twist so the spinn drift is less. And also it will recoil bether on righ hand shooters. The bolt is also a second locking lug. Just a few designs that makes the krag Jørgensen an awsome gun.
The bolt handle is the 2 locking lug. Sorry bad english:). When the US made krags they hat to big of toleranse on the bolt handle so it did not act like a locking lug. And when you look at all these modern 6,5 creedmoore, 6,5x47, 260rem they are all Just using the 6,5x55 balestics so they designet a cadrige that still is useble in today shooting world.
My only problem with these correction reuploads is that I mistakenly believe there's a new episode. Instead I just learn yet again that this show has outstanding integrity.
My best shooting milsrup bolt is sportized Norwegian 1894. It was given to me by a dear older shooting buddy of Dad 's in the early "60's. Each time I take it out of my safe, I getting a warm feeling .

This touches on something I wish C&Rsenal would do an issue about: the transition from blackpowder to smokeless powder. The technological innovations around this time are insane and tangential. C&Rsnal's take on this transition would be awesome. Just deciding to go from an 11mm black powder to a 6.5X55 smokeless in a couple of years would be a HUGE leap.
The Mausers are good, but as a military rifle the Krag was better than the Swedish Mauser or the M98. For hunting, the M98 is superior, allowing larger and more powerful cartrigdes.
The Krag would have been an outstanding DMR/Sniper Rifle if the designer had the foresight to add a stripper clip guide to the capsule magazine… Oh, what could have been with one small change.
I feel like a return of the show’s third star, John Moses Browning, is needed. If only he had designed another gun that was carried in the Great War. But I just can’t think of one.
The capsule magazine has always interested me since first seeing a Krag. I've always thought that it could still be desirable in a modern hunting rifle, but I could be wrong.
I have a competition Krag with, if I remember correctly, a 22mm barrel, that my grandfather used and I just love the feeling of the bolt. It is so nice and smooth. Much more so than any Mauser etc. The only thing is that in rain they tend to draw the hit collection up and to the right(it has been a long time since I used it so I might be wrong about the direction.)

It was actually common for field gunsmith to file the troops sights a little. I have 1 is filed and 1 original, and I honestly feel like it's easier to shoot with the filed one

Othais and Mae, I sure enjoyed this presentation on the Krag, particularly keen as I have a model 1912 in 6.5:55. Mine is a 1913 # 821, Sadly it is not original However the action is in excellent condition, the stock has been shortened, but in nice shape. I have been trying different ammo looking for some off the shelf ammo that it will shoot well. One of you comments "spitzer chambering" has me thinking this gun is chambered for a round-nose (bottlenose) bullet. All of the factory ammo is spitzer type and I have pulled a few bullets and they do not contact the lands when I close the bolt on a barely inserted bullet. I had been contemplating either re-barreling or shortening and re-cutting the chamber. Now I think I need to find or reload some round-nose bullet. Did Krag cut two (or more) different style/shape chambers that you know of. Would this gun have been chambered for 160g M/94 ammo?
I know for a fact that the original Kongsberg armorers kit was equipped with two different chamber cutting dies. One for the Norwegian and for for the Swedish 6,5x55, the Swedish I belief was a tad tighter.
About the story time at 1:02:00, it sounds so weird to me that a US krag can be less expansive than any Danish or Norwegian Krag. In Europe, US krags cost around 2000 € (and more), while Danish ones are almost half that price. Norwegian Krags are still slightly more expansive than Danish ones tho.

The Mausers are good, but as a military rifle the Krag was better than the Swedish Mauser or the M98. For hunting, the M98 is superior, allowing larger and more powerful cartrigdes.
The Krag would have been an outstanding DMR/Sniper Rifle if the designer had the foresight to add a stripper clip guide to the capsule magazine… Oh, what could have been with one small change.

The capsule magazine has always interested me since first seeing a Krag. I've always thought that it could still be desirable in a modern hunting rifle, but I could be wrong.
I'm thinking on how it would work on a fixed magazine AR... And yes I'm norwegian..

I have a competition Krag with, if I remember correctly, a 22mm barrel, that my grandfather used and I just love the feeling of the bolt. It is so nice and smooth. Much more so than any Mauser etc. The only thing is that in rain they tend to draw the hit collection up and to the right(it has been a long time since I used it so I might be wrong about the direction.)
Up and to the left, due to the only one asymmetric set locking lug, but only inn wet and rainy weather...!!!

It was actually common for field gunsmith to file the troops sights a little. I have 1 is filed and 1 original, and I honestly feel like it's easier to shoot with the filed one

Othais and Mae, I sure enjoyed this presentation on the Krag, particularly keen as I have a model 1912 in 6.5:55. Mine is a 1913 # 821, Sadly it is not original However the action is in excellent condition, the stock has been shortened, but in nice shape. I have been trying different ammo looking for some off the shelf ammo that it will shoot well. One of you comments "spitzer chambering" has me thinking this gun is chambered for a round-nose (bottlenose) bullet. All of the factory ammo is spitzer type and I have pulled a few bullets and they do not contact the lands when I close the bolt on a barely inserted bullet. I had been contemplating either re-barreling or shortening and re-cutting the chamber. Now I think I need to find or reload some round-nose bullet. Did Krag cut two (or more) different style/shape chambers that you know of. Would this gun have been chambered for 160g M/94 ammo?
I know for a fact that the original Kongsberg armorers kit was equipped with two different chamber cutting dies. One for the Norwegian and for for the Swedish 6,5x55, the Swedish I belief was a tad tighter.
About the story time at 1:02:00, it sounds so weird to me that a US krag can be less expansive than any Danish or Norwegian Krag.
In Europe, US krags cost around 2000 € (and more), while Danish ones are almost half that price. Norwegian Krags are still slightly more expansive than Danish ones tho.
