Couldn't say it better ma friend ! Well said. Listening this song day and night since I saw it first yesterday ! From Honolulu, Hawaii....Ye alem daricha !
For those who don't understand the language, allow me to explain a little. The man (singer) and the lady (wearing western clothes) grew up together as children in the countryside. However, she left at some point and went to go abroad (I assume) where she forgot about the history, religion, and culture of her land, and most unfortunately, forgot about him. She later comes back for a visit as a adult (wearing clothes that garnered those shocked looks) but she no longer understands Amharic. When he sees her (his first love), he runs up to greet her but she backs away and asks who he is in English. Heartbreak. Moreover, she no longer wears a cross around her neck (a symbol born by all Orthodox Christians in the country) indicating her loss of faith. This might not seem like a big deal in other parts of the world, but it's a serious matter in Ethiopia, especially in the rural areas. Personally, the girl represents something I fear our generation is becoming: a stranger to our own culture.
He and she were originally from the countryside and he thought he had an unbreakable bond with his childhood friend. She had gone to live in the city and upon her return after they both grew up, he found out that to his surprise the bond he thought is unbreakable is actually lost in the city ways of the lady (his childhood friend). He is singing about his surprise figuratively talking to all the things that had made the childhood bond (the school they went to, the rural area that they had both spent time in while they were children). The song has a deepጥልቅ sensationስሜት.
