    Hey Gavin, hats off to you, you've come a long way since your first video over 10 years ago. I've noticed your confidence and knowledge grow while viewing your videos. You have a perfect shop setup and way to many presses, lol. This mark 7 setup is sweet, I'm really liking it. Perhaps some day...for now the Dillon 550 will have to do. Keep up the with research I appreciate it. I know first hand that editing those videos is time consuming let alone shooting them. It looks like your having fun doing all of it, thanks and stay safe

    a lot of reloading videos don't mention any type of case prep, they start with the primer and resizing dye on the press. While others will remove the primer separately, resize and trim the brass. Then clean the brass so that the primer pocket gets cleaned in the process and then loaded into the reloading press. Will you do a video showing pros and cons of both processes?

    For 9mm - somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 rounds for gross break-even. Net break-even depends on how much you value your own time.
    So, if you shoot 1,500 rounds per month - about a year to pay for itself. 750 rounds per month average - 2 years to pay for the setup.
    Very rough numbers - but in the ballpark.
    I like the hobby, self-sufficiency, ability to customize rounds, supporting precision shooting, etc, etc......justifying the cost is not important to me. I just want to have fun. This setup is less than a boat, custom classic car, or many other expensive hobbies.

    • @no-sway3709
      @no-sway3709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree with that statement because it treats the equipment as expendable. At the end of 20K rounds a reloader could turn around and sell the press and recoup the majority of their initial outlay. I would say the breakeven is closer to 10k rounds.

  • @sf7708

    Mr. Bullet Feeder is awesome but there are some things to know about adjusting it if you plan on reloading 9mm, 95 grain bullets. First off, order the smaller size drop tube that is designed for the 223 cartridge in lieu of the normal large tube for 115 grain and up 9mm bullets. You need to specify that in your order if you plan on loading the shorter bullets. If you don’t, the 95 grain bullet will turn side ways in the tube and jam things up.
    2nd, the 95 jhp bullet in particular needs to be adjusted properly on the feeder or you’ll have more upside down bullets than you want. Not a good thing if you are going to motorize you unit in the future. This is done mostly by feel until you get it right. Double Alpha does offer a kit that will simplify this process and help speed up the process.
    Mr Bulletfeeder is a great machine but can be finicky if you rush the setup. It’s not really designed for the lighter 9 mm bullets.
    Hope this helps.

    Love the setup of progressive reloading. I have a Dillon 650 and when comparing my press to this setup I have a couple things I didn’t like as much. I don’t like how the place for silencing the finished product is sticking right out in the front towards you. I feel honestly like I would hit that if not careful when getting up and I don’t like how when you were not using the bullet feeder that the case feeder was right in your way. Dillon did this smartly by placing it in the back of the press out of the way. Just small things when this press is amazing but it’s the small things that make the biggest differences sometimes

    • @andrewbrummett3856
      @andrewbrummett3856 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Setup is approximately $4,000. Using coated bullets can reload for 9-10 cents per round, if purchasing everything in bulk. Factory box ammo 21 cents per round (even higher if you are getting competition grade ammo that would rival what you are making on the press.) Need to load approx 36,000 rounds to pay for the entire setup in the video. Don't forget though, that doesn't account for what you could re-sell the machine for if you decided it wasn't for you.

    • @TeensierPython

      If you are shooting 9mm it is going to be a long time to recoup the costs. 9mm is pretty cheap nowadays. Think of it more as a hobby you can enjoy that will someday, maybe, pay for itself. Also, there are ammo calculators out there that you can use to calculate break-even numbers.
      www.dillonprecision.com/break-even-calculator.html here is one for example.

    It was interesting to see the press in action and as always your setup explanation was very well done and easy to follow. This is obviously a press for not just higher volume shooters (1k-2k rounds per month) but for high volume professional shooters who might have the financial resources for something like this and who look at reloading as a necessary evil. I have one suggestion for your future videos of reloading equipment like this. If possible place the item that you're demonstrating in front of an empty area or hang some sort of drape behind it. It was extremely difficult to see everything when the camera was shooting from directly in front because of the other equipment sitting directly behind it. All I could really see was a jumbled mass of equipment.

If not how are you so confident to box the ammo up after loading, wouldn't variance in case weight be much less than a possible over charge of powder. Thank you

    Saw a guy on youtube with an 02 FFL running 10 Dillon Super 1050's with mk7 autodrive to remanufacture ammo. He had like 6 guys loading primer tubes, which I failed to understand with the automatic primer feed systems out there.

      I would assume that he needs to keep people around to refill the loaders and monitor the machines but then they'd stand around doing nothing waiting for the machines to beep. So he puts them filling tubes by hand. Just a guess.

    Gavin, you've done a fairly deep dive into the mark7 stuff, major differences from the evolution to the revolution as far as the press goes? I'm sure the next step for this evolution will be automation, but what would the benefit be off going straight to the revolution?

      I haven't been hands-on with the Revolution yet- hoping to before too long!
