Likely that the gas bottle hooked up is empty if it's settling that quick.

That is a gas issue or a bad keg. More than likely no gas, not turned on, empty bottle etc. Barman should have noticed it and not served that pint!

The Robin Hood in Pontcanna does a good stout. The owner is in there drinking them himself all the time, so the staff know how to pour + the lines are looked after but aye the standard is low everywhere else

Now living in Cheltenham and none of the pubs in Cheltenham and Gloucester give a flying Feck about how the Guinness is poured and presented. As a Cardiff man I feel ashamed that this is what the city had to offer, what a disgrace. The best pint of Guinness in Cardiff is down the bay in the packet pub, it’s an old skool pub that has a few characters to say the least and isn’t the most inviting place at certain times but the landlord has always poured me a good pint.

Flute and Tankard is decent when I miss my bus on the way home from work, and one of the seats outside are free.
I've had pints in O'Neills before but at the time wasn't thinking too much about the quality.

I always used to look in a bar and see if anyone had a pint of Guinness and look to see what it looked like, to make sure the lines were clear and look at the condition of the pint! Then decide what I was going to order.

It’s sad when you consider Cardiff once had an entire Irish district/ghetto - Newtown, now a mess of building sites and horrible eyesore constructions- which gave birth to such people as the great boxer Big Jim Driscoll. I can’t think of a single Irish pub (not including o’neills obviously) anywhere in the city, which is surely unusual for a decent sized uk city. Still think if he’d gone further afield- say to roath - he might have found some decent pints. Brains do a decent stout- Brains Black - but not many places do it these days. Another welsh brewer, Felinfoel, used to do a really good one but I haven’t seen it in literally decades.

A friend and I go out once a year celebrating Remembrance Sunday, and we have four pints of Guinness, always enjoy it, but not big drinkers! The first time we visited THE OLD ARCADE as it used to be called the best pub in Cardiff once, and didn’t enjoy as the atmosphere was poor and the pint was expensive. Then we made our way to THE GOAT MAJOR and had to insist that the barman topped the Guinness up as it was blatantly a shortfall in the glasses, he banged the glasses down in protest, again expensive! Finally we decided to go to Weatherspoon THE GATEHOUSE, a bright and spacious pub, crammed with ex-service people. The Guinness was absolutely beautiful to drink and was significantly cheaper, we have been going there ever since. Enjoyed the humour in your review....thanks!

I'd say its a different take on pints, I lived in Wales for 4 years and almost all of my pints were topped to the brim with liquid with little in the way of head, no matter the beer style. A lot of areas in Wales have been properly left neglected with the closure of mining and raw materials industries, so people are naturally picky about getting their money's worth in booze. Some parts of the valleys you'll see folks necking 10-15 pints as their daily routine.

The best Guinness I’ve had in Wales is in Cemaes Bay on Anglesey. It was alright compared to what Ireland offers.
But if you go to North Lancs or the Lake District, there’s some quality pintage up there. 👍🏻

On another note I think some better research needed, this and the b/ham vid has some proper dodgy recommendations.

A Welsh barman once told me with total confidence that there was ZERO difference between canned Guinness and on-draught Guiness
He told me a study had concluded that people couldn’t really tell them apart
I told him where I was from (Irish) and that there ABSOLUTELY was a difference

You need to go to Bangor, Northern Ireland for a pint and go to bar called Feiltys. They 3 types of pints (Cold Pint, Room Temperature, and one that's mixed with both cold and room temperature) definitely recommend it. Other good bars that do a nice Guinness in Bangor is The Goats Toe & Donegans

I have not read the book, “voices again, “yet so I don’t know what is recommended for the drink late. Please forgive any mistakes. Dictation is Nikki in this comment as I cannot edit it.

Feel really bad about my city watching this, however there's no hiding from the truth. Cardiff bar staff are fantastic on the whole, but they're used to serving lager on a production line. Given that the city is centred around rugby and Guinness is so synonymous with that you'd think the Guinness reps would be more focused on quality. But Cardiff on a night out is chaos, so I doubt that will change!
On a personal note, man should have gone to Queen's Vaults!
