🌎 : GURO DISTRICT, SEOUL (6.9/10)
Unbeknownst to us, Guro is full of communist. Some like to get day drunk and flex their muscles, others enjoy dancing in the street like hippies. We got involved in all the action throughout the district and steered clear of the dangerous dog eating Daerim neighborhood. #seoul #southkorea

🦧 WHO AM I?
Dan. Sooner or later i'm gonna be a corpse in the ground, worms eating my body and my atoms will disassemble and move off to finds new uses elsewhere in the universe, probably to create a turd. Why take things so serious, why work a job you hate, why listen to people telling you to do things you don't want to do, life's too short for any of that foo foo. I create exploration videos in the hopes of inspiring others to travel and see planet earth. Waterfalls, Aurora Borealis, Curry, Pyramids, Lions, Live Music & Laughter. How Bout That?

Always fun exploring Seoul with you Dan!
Cheers lad!
hahha i was going to write that same hahaha yeah @whereisdan always brings good histories
Daniel, been binge watching your clips.. and realized you're a serious Korean lover.
You must fill 100k, I'm with you man!
We'll get there next year hopefully!! Thanks for watching all my videos!! :D
Those guys UDT ,Underwater Destruction Team,or sth like that. Must have had tons of traumatic experience during their service ,those generation, some do not adapt to society well. Drinking. Live by labour works, etc. Those people are not too dangerous as long as you don't provoke them ,usually. Nazi symbol and Budhist temple mark are not identical, each runs toward opposite direction,FYI. Loved this video, too.
Thanks for the info and support mate! :D
Thanks. Did not notice the swastika being backwards...I found a bunch of jewelry that my grandfather brought back from the korean war.

Love the channel, Dan. Missing Seoul right about now. I think I might have to come visit soon. Your uploads are a great bit of nostalgia for me.
For me as well. I lived in Seoul from 97-02 in Hannam-dong and would love to go back one day, until then these videos take me back. When we’re u there?
@@jt2475 I was all over Seoul from 2006-2010 and again from 2013-2020 in Ilsan.
Glad I can help you reminisce mate ! I miss living there, it's great isn't it!
@@whereisdan One of the most interesting places on earth despite its warts. Gotta love it! So, Dan, you aren't living in Seoul these days then? I assumed you were a teacher escaping the E2 matrix via TH-cam, nah? Looking forward to more of your videos.
I've binge watched a lot of your videos during this days and i reckon your content is one of the most fun to watch, really entertaining. I very much enjoyed it. Keep up this great work. And this video is banging as well as with the rest of them. Greetings from Spain Dan!
Hey mate thanks very much for taking your time to enjoy my videos!! :D Gracias
The blokes you bought the makalie for were absolutely shit faced! love it. congratulations on 20K subs too well deserved.
thanks a lot mate!!
for that older man to do those push ups on his thumbs was extremely impressive
he was using alcohol power!
@@whereisdan lol probably a mix of experience and eating a lot of vegetables
Another awesome video. I also follow Bart’s channel. Nice to see you guys together.
good to hear that mate! :D
It is true that Koreans dislike Chinese people, but the perception that Daelim-dong is dangerous is not just for that reason. There are Chinatowns in Incheon, Konkuk University, and Dongdaemun, and there are Chinese residential areas near Korea University and Kyunghee University, but there is no perception that these places are dangerous.
Daerim has long been a place famous for violent crimes, including several murders by Korean-Chinese gangs. The movie made based on this is Crime City. Although it has become much safer now, the perception that it is dangerous still remains, as murder cases are reported almost every year.
Although it was not Daelim, the two torso-cutting murders by Korean-Chinese in Suwon, which had become a slum, caused the perception of Korean-Chinese, which was originally unfavorable, to deteriorate significantly. If you search for 수원 토막 살인 사건 , you will find it.
The reasons for hating Chinese people and Korean-Chinese people are slightly different. The reason people hate Chinese people is because of cultural and political reasons. For example, the Northeast Project. In order to integrate Korean-Chinese people, it has become increasingly common to claim that all traditional Korean culture is Chinese culture.
The reason why people hate Korean-Chinese people is because, in addition to the violent crimes mentioned above, they are now the largest group that commits various fraudulent crimes such as voice phishing.
koreans like everyone
That's really great I like the way you're exploring you're delivered so important information for the people who wants to visit Korea keep it up man
thank you very much for your positivity mate
I stayed 2 week in May in AirB&B right next to Guro Digital Complex and it didn’t seem to be dangerous at all.. I explored all the neighbourhoods around such as Daerim-dong, Guro-dong & Garibong-dong even at night mostly alone and it was completely fine. I got few looks because of my tattoos from ajummas but that was it 😅.
I was actually suprised how lively it was and had some of the best meals in those areas 🙌🏻..
My friends who live in Seoul their whole life warned me about the area as lot of Chinese live there.
But honestly I felt so safe in comparison with London, almost impossible to compare tbh.
Great video 😊
I met some gangsters in yeongdungpo! that video will be really good!! :D
@@whereisdan uuuuuu exited to see that one 🙌🏻
Hey Dan, thanx for taking us on yet another great Korean adventure! Your interaction with the locals is awesome!! Are you living in Korea in The Now?
I'm not living in Korea now, I used to! Now i'm back in england earning money and saving up for the next trip!
The little boy on his bike said "Why do you apologize?"
A very fascinating video! inspired a lot.
we almost got into a fight with him ...
I've been here for ten years! You whippersnappers make me feel old! BaCk in My DaY we didn't have Papago or Naver Maps! Heck, Kakao Talk was barely even a thing back then... And of course we walked uphill both ways barefoot in the snow!
10 years! Im envious!! How the hell'd you communicate with people WITHOUT the internet!!
23:53 The graceful dance of the ajummas, with the passing ajumma on her yakultmobile, is pure poetry.
That clip summarises south korea.
My girlfriend across the room just made fun of me for chortling and shoveling the leafy greens of a salad into my mouth while watching the scene with the inebriated ajoshis.
On another note, there's an aspect about working class Korean men that I've always found a bit endearing - is that there is an unguardedness towards foreigners (due to being such a safe country no less), a willingness to engage in silly behavior for sake of entertainment. Much like how they were in awe at your mustache and Bart's size, I'm 197cm (6'5) and I've had grown adult Korean ajoshi's marvel at my height. Random grown workers have walked on their tip toes alongside me or extend their arms all the way up with their hand bent perpindicular to visually mark the top of my head. Granted though, a lot of Korean "Volks" humor is sort of slap-sticky and aided by alcohol anyway.
You enjoy those leafy greens lad!
That's why i'm always interacting with the older generation, as they don't have a guard up like the young superficial ones.
I love your video but you need to separate East and west side of Guro. Mid Town would be Shindorim. Most of west and middle area are safe and the east side also is getting safe nowadays. thanks for the great video!
ahh thanks for the info mate
Great 1 Dan what is the Dutch guy's u-2 ?
iGoBart👋
Dude you guys were drinking with old south korean seals, that's badass🍻
I plan on traveling to Korea thanks to your videos
HELLLLLSzzz effing yes!!
I remember trying to take a picture of one of the shops near the Gurodong-ro and Uma-gil intersection and this older guy stood right in front of my camera and kept blocking me when I tried to get another angle. Other than that really great area, especially for Chinese food alonside Daerim.
how weird he would do that haha
@@whereisdan yeah idk what was up with that lol maybe it was a front or something 😅
7:17 Onyang, Chungnam.
Onyang is the name of a neighborhood in Chungcheongnam-do(in short, Chungnam).
thank you very much!! :D
Also are we sure Bart isnt just a Dutch Tyson Fury?
he's taller than him!
Commenting again mate because this is criminal should have 100k views.
Instead I'm seeing videos on YT of people eat 10 donuts from a chain and pretending they are amazing ffs.
Need to take you to Blackburn town centre meet some of the biggest characters of your life
Or people filming them eating a pizza and saying NOTHING and it gets 12 million views. silly innit.
what camera do you use?
gopro hero 7
39:24 Queen Elizabeth visited South Korea in 1999. She said 이희호, a wife of the president 김대중 at that time. I guess because she said the queen visited her university, she graduated 이화여자대학교!
Yes she went to 이화여자대학교! I love the architecture of that building!!
I tell you. Guro-Gu and Guemcheon-Gu are the two most dangerous districts in Seoul. Especially Daerim and Garibong are very very dangerous
i met a lot of interesting people in these areas!
Your mate seems like a cool guy - does he speak Korean and Chinese?
he speaks korean, english and dutch
You should have tagged your mate and his channel in the description.
he's tagged!! :D and was also tagged in the into
Spot on travel content on youtube nowadays is just soo boring repeat after repeat why are people so bland. Gets the views though which is the worst part.
Your out here making top stuff like look at these for adventures ahah.
When we collabing lad? I'm in UK
@@whereisdan I'd bloody love to mate if weren't over in Asia.

hiya
Why is it strange to study Chinese in Korea. In the 80s you had to know Chinese characters to read the newspaper. It's like studying Latin in Europe
thats so cool!!
Man, as an American who lives in the 2nd highest state for murder/homicide this looks like a nice neighborhood! Definitely not as dangerous as my city but I would assume you should just use common sense and caution in these types of places. Definitely not going to be ducking from gun shots like I would in my hometown.
I made some videos in America as well, maybe i was in your city?
@@whereisdanI will have to check them out and see! Definitely enjoy the content though!
Edit: Yep you did visit! Haven't watched yet but I am sure you did a good video on it!
7:50 Korean LinkedIn. Nice.

0:06 "dongs"? You mean "communists" ? 😅😂😅😂😅😂
not correct
@@nosida7312 yeah you're right, the full correct term for communist is in fact "dingdong"
The correct term in dongbats*

LET'S GU! Thanks for tuning in and commenting! :D
Koreans complaining about people being loud, hilarious!
yessss
yayyyyy
Dangerous because of Chinese? 😂What a comment to make! 🤦♀️
Blame the Chinese!! Poor chinese, they've probably done nothing wrong!!
In Daerim-dong, there are occasional incidents of violence, including stabbings, involving Chinese, which is why it is considered dangerous.

Nice
the crazy thing is those old drunk guys are not communists but they're right wing conservatives like the MAGA americans. in south korea, there's a super fine line between conservatism and authoritarianism sadly.
didn''t know that!! cheers lad
