    You didnt specifically addressed the CRV catalytic converter. Since 2017, Honda has repositioned it to a secure location near towards the engine. I also noticed on my 2021 CRV that there is a protective covering. Someone peeking cannot easily locate the catalytic converter. Both are not fool proof but huge deterrents.

    Mike Crossen is a great addition to the CR automotive team! Anyone who has taught high school automotive mechanics could probably diffuse a nuclear warhead in a 15 year old Toyota Corolla's trunk during a fire drill. Glad to see the CR car family expand!

    Great question at the end about the catalytic converter thefts! I’m thinking about getting one of the newer Prius models and now realize that I need to get a theft prevention device. That’s important information that just isn’t available in other programs.

    Mike with the ultimate throwback regarding the Maxima headlight theft. Specifically, the facelift 5th generation Maxima because it was one of the first "regular" cars to have standard xenon headlights. Every mechanic in the NYC area knew about it and Nissan was eventually sued over it.

    Good review, but bait title. Clicked on this video thinking Honda did something smart to prevent catalytic converter theft. But they didn't do anything.
    Talks about catalytic converter at the very end. They just tell you that you can buy guards for the catalytic converter.

      I agree they didn't talk about the crv's catalytic converter location which I've read is located in the engine compartment. I assume this means it is not exposed underneath the car. I own the 2024 crv hybrid touring and it is the best car I've ever owned. The guy in the middle seems to have had a negative bent on the crv going in.

    Alex, they offer an EX-L model with the 1.5 liter non-hybrid. So you don’t have to go hybrid to get leather seats and steering wheel. The Sport Touring is the top trim and comes only with the hybrid.

    I could get past the lack of a leather steering wheel, but the omission of a spare tire with the hybrid version (the only way I'd buy one) and the black wheels mandatory with those trims would turn me away.
    Hondas have always had firm seats, Sometimes too firm, so Quincy may be right on that point.
    The new guy did a great job. It's important to know about back seat comfort so I'm glad he reported on that. Happy to see there's rear-seat HVAC vents back there.

    • @dleonf2832
      @dleonf2832 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently purchased the 2023 CRV Sport Hybrid and the omission of a spare tire and mandatory black wheels were almost a deal breaker. But once I drove the vehicle I changed my mind and realized that if I got a flat tire I most likely would have to be towed if the tire won’t hold air after using the included inflator kit. Most of the time I’ve gotten slow leaks due to a nail and I seldom get complete flats. I love getting 51 mpg city driving and you can barely tell when the electric motor switches to gas. The horn sounds cheesy though and I hope to change replace with a much louder horn.

    While I praise Kia and Hyundai for trying new designs. I have to knock them on the fact that I don't like either styling. The 23 CR-V is perfect in terms of styling for me personally. I think Honda nailed a clean long lasting design that will age well. It's a big reason why I love my CR-V.

    Great review guys, as always. You guys should do a piece on why car makers take a car and over time make it bigger and bigger and then wind up backfilling with a replacement for the smaller/original size of that vehicle…The CRV got bigger and bigger and then the HRV was created to fill that void. And it seems every car maker does it. I’m guessing so that a particular model “grows up” with the buying population that likes to buy that car? But don’t know if there are any other reasons…Thanks!!!

    • @adamesd3699
      @adamesd3699 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that is weird.
      Honda has been particularly guilty of this. The newest Accord is simply huge, and modern Civics are bigger than the Accords of the 1980s.
      Although some companies buck that trend. The Chevy Equinox actually got significantly smaller in its current generation (starting with the 2018 model year).

    How do folks feel about Honda nowadays? In my family, we have several new(er) models for a 2017 Pilot and a 2017 CR-V that was sold. We experienced several issues that are outside the typical maintenance items. Our feeling has been the touted Honda reliability has slipped and isn’t up to par as it was in the past. Also possible we had some lemons

      I've heard the same thing from a few people, including my brother in law. Honda had some trouble between 2016 and 2019. From what I've heard, 2020 and newer are back to normal rock solid Honda reliability. I still won't trust the first model year for a new generation. Toyota Lexus Mazda Honda and Acura are still my top 5 brands. I don't think I will purchase anything else.

      @@bradweinberger6907 You should have bought a Sienna. Toyota is bullet proof there.
      Honda or Suzuki at least in the past here in NA had transmission problems. I sometimes think that it is because of the motorcycle DNA of the parent companies unlike Toyota which doesn't make bikes that might be the cause of it all. Minivans need heavy duty transmissions while anyone can make a reliable motorcycle like honda and suzuki do if they are not run by bean counters requiring planned obsolescence of the products. GM was famous for its cars not lasting more than 5 years to spur sales in the past.

    Thieves were stealing the headlights off the 6th generation Nissan Maxima to take the HID components out. They would then use them to retrofit into other vehicles that didn’t come with HID headlights. There is now a huge aftermarket that supplies projectors, bulbs and ballasts making stealing those special headlights a thing of the past. Deterring catalytic converter theft is a whole other problem.

      I don’t know if this was correct when this video was made, but they show an LX CR-V on their website without the heated seats or moonroof. Also, blind spot isn’t standard. It’s available for $500 extra, I believe. The Civic still doesn’t have an LX model, but the Accord does. I think you’re correct, Marek. Chips are becoming easier to find, so they may have brought them back. I know sometimes changes are made mid-season. Perhaps they had too many complaints since cars are so expensive? But I’d think if price was an issue, you’d get an HR-V or Civic, rather than Accord or CR-V.

I’m glad they finally have parking sensors, but I don’t get why every other foreign non-luxury manufacturer offers it on their small SUVs except Honda. Although the CRV has had 6 generations, the first CRV was the 1985 Civic wagon. It had 4 WD model and was Honda's, if not the industry's, first crossover SUV. I have driven them all, including the original Civic branded one, and I have owned 3 models once our new Sport Hybrid arrives in February. IMO it has always been the best first car you could ever buy your kid or spend your own cash on. Safe, efficient, drives well, spacious, comfortable, well priced. It is not an A plus in any single category but an A minus from every angle, something that always easily has kept it ahead of the pack. It has always been the recipe since the beginning, with each new model being an improvement on the prior model. If a perfect, idylic socialist society ever became a reality, everyone would get a CRV. Everything a small family transport needs to be. The only thing less than premium (for its segment) was significant road noise, but that has been remedied progressively with every refresh and is now as good or better in that deparment as any other offering on the market. The biggest unseen change has been to the body structure. Essentially, all small crossovers have done poorly or failed the new IIHS side impact standard. This new model was designed to ace it.

    "You just get in and go, nothing complicated".... says every thief that basically walks up, codes a key, gets in, and just drives away.
    No offense to the consumer reports guys, but seriously, this whole theft problem needs to be talked about. It's literally out of control. I've seen multiple carfaxes with 1 and 2 car thefts on them while shopping.
    So obvious question: did Honda finally finally do anything about theft? It's so stupid to steal them! The thieves need like what, just the VIN?
    Some might say "oh, but thieves can steal whatever they like and it's not Honda's fault". But that's not true! It seems like the Mazdas and Nissans aren't really that easy to steal. Something about the Hondas that makes it that stupid simple. One of the Lexuses also has this problem. Look at all the top 10 stolen lists...

    Consumers, stop buying more than you can chew.
    Get a Honda Fit if you are a commuter and you are sensitive ecologically.
    Get a Honda CR-V or HR-V if you are alone with 1 child or a dog and you’d like to ride high.
    Do you need a Passport or a Pilot when a CR-V would foot the bill?
    If you plan on SUVRV’ing, definitely get a Pilot.
    Happy motoring!

    • @aussie2uGA
      @aussie2uGA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't anymore. The Honda Fit, the Ford Fiesta and Focus, the smaller less expensive cars were eliminated from the makretplace to raise the entry point. The average price of a car now is $46k and manufacturers realize that without lower priced offerings, the consumers will continue to jump into the next higher priced model. It will eventually crash OR we will all be forced into used cars which then slowly get phased off the road. It's hard to tell what the end game here is. It's not an organic market anymore dictated by consumer spending.

    Really guys, Let's talk tech and about the increased safety . Passenger and driver knee bags and rear seat airbags. A cleaner styled outside and a very functional classy inside. Kia/Hyundia bling- No Thanks. Honda is getting back to it's roots. As far as the HRV/CRV comparison . Your wrong- It is based off the new Honda global platform (Civic) with some previous gen 5 CRV bits thrown in. Also, the AWD system has improvements sending 50% of the power to the rear wheels. Screen size and weird styling at a reduced price (Kia/Hyundia) is not relevant

    Couldn't have made it more boring, if they tried! Honda is so far behind the EV 8-ball, but good luck with it.

    Its disgusting how cars just keep "needing" to get larger. if they didn't do this cars would be so much more efficient. look at the size difference between the original Civic and Now.. Enough with the bloat. Americans are bloat lovers.

      Drinking a Double Big Gulp right now and I agree with you
      I had a 1989 Civic LX sedan which I dearly loved to 319k miles and a CRX-SI I guess in my 30s they were perfect size for me. Now at 60 I'm looking at the compact SUV/Crossovers for the ride height more than anything. I just wish the Honda CRV had the same content offered in the Hyundai and Kia Tucson /Sportage

      Theres far more money in making large cars and trucks. Remember 20 years ago manufacturers realized the profits from large trucks was enormous compared to smaller space constrained cars. The simplicity and speed to assemble components into a large platform far outweighs trying to stuff things into a tiny package. It's another reason Honda killed the Fit, Ford killed the Fiesta and Focus, etc.

    Seriously very slow. Occasionally it brakes hard when there is nothing ahead! That's also dangerous.

      I have had the same issue with phantom braking ... dealer says they've never heard about it. What did your dealer say?
