Going back 1 year to 1902, there was the 1902 Pirates. They were 103 36 .741 and are the best team in franchise history. Unfortunately, pitchers Jesse Tannehill and Jack Chesbro defected to the defected to the NY Highlanders in 1903, in the days before there was an agreement between the National and American Leagues. Had they stayed, they wouldn't have had to rely basically on Deacon Phillipe starting 5 games in the 1903 World Series which would have improved their chances. The 1903 Bucs lefty ace Ed Doheny had a breakdown before the World Series and was not available to pitch.
The 1961 Tigers went 101-61 and didn't make the playoffs. That was the Yankees 109 win season. There have been eight 100 win seasons in MLB history with teams not making the post season. The Tigers and Dodgers have done it twice each accounting for half the total. Tigers in 1915 and 1961. Dodgers in 1942 and 1962.

The fact that the reds in 1919 made this list proves that the Black Sox scandal might not even have mattered after all and the reds might have won regardless. The historians are wrong when they say the reds were overmatched by the white Sox and it just wasn’t true lol.

The 1912 Giants at number 20 actually had a better winning percentage than the Dodgers at 19 if you average it to 4 decimal places.
Same with a couple between 30 and 33 place. 101-50 is a bit better than 103-51 down to four or five decimal placea
