The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs was founded just under 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In other words, baseball has been played professional in this country for a *majority* of its history.
Funny how at the beginning there was the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Stockings, Chicago White Stockings, and St. Louis Brown Stockings in what was essentially the National League. All 4 names ended up in the American League.
I'm 22 and it happened in 1958, but I'm still mad that the Dodgers left Brooklyn and moved to LA. Maybe it's because my dad and grandfather are from Brooklyn...
@@raindropknowledge8898 NY originally had 3 baseball teams NY Yankees NY Giants Bkn. Dodgers Giants & Dodgers are NL rivals & both moved to California in 1958. Christopher Justice I think you meant pre mlb. Oh, and can you still get please redo the video with the American association teams included? I count that as a major league so please? And also, how do you know all this info you just told me about?
honestly...the brewers should've never been moved to the NL. All of their great rivalries were left behind after they did that. The royals should've been moved to the NL.
I think it's about time for an expansion again. Six new teams, 3 in each league, 1 in each division. NL West gets a team in Las Vegas; NL Central gets a team in New Orleans; NL East gets a team Memphis. AL West gets a team in Portland; AL Central gets a team Oklahoma City; Finally, bring back the Montreal Expos and put them in the AL East.
Nashville is a much better city for baseball than Memphis. I think Salt Lake City might be better than New Orleans. I also think Austin, TX needs a professional team
Couldn't you redo this video but with the National Association, American Association, Union Association, and Player's League teams included from 1871-1891?
Between 1871-1875, there was the National Association. It was basically the National League just with a different name. Most of these teams in the NA were eventually put into the NL like the Boston Red Stockings becoming the Braves. There were also some other teams at the time like the Brooklyn Atlantics who recorded a 2-42 record in 1875. Baseball was a weird sport back then, and yes, this is true.
@@totallyordinaryguy7570 Briefly. It's legacy kinda lives on, as Wrigley Field was originally used by the Chicago Federal League team (don't recall their name). After that league folded, the Cubs moved to Wrigley and the rest is history.
Thats because in early baseball days, it was common to name teams as **color** stockings, just because it was very popular. Then most of the teams names by stocking shortened its name to sox (Example: Chicago White Stocking -> Chicago White Sox) or shortened the name only to the color (Example: Cincinnati Red Stocking -> Cincinnati Reds)
@@seanman1231 Yes, just the same name as the Chicago White Sox when they started. I forgot to mention that some teams just dropped the entire name and changed it to another, just like the Cubs when they changed from the Chicago White Stockings to the Chicago Orphans.

Look at all those people that have to travel to get to a game. Seems like its time for an expansion.
Idk can fat fcks in the south actually carry themselves to games? Can they afford ticket prices? 😂
Cleveland Spiders 1800s name and logo should have never changed, would have been coolest for all of American sports history.
MLB has been a really popular baseball league. There have been so many baseball teams which have graced the league.
Omg the MLB is very old

日本はまだ幕末の時代なのにこの頃からメジャーリーグがあったなんて凄いな
MLB was created in 1903
In 1876 there was only the National League

You can just slow down the video yourself tho
Change the playback speed
In 1886 the washington nationals were a team!

raindropknowledge well apparently the Dodgers leaving for L.A. is also strongly correlated with Brooklyn’s decline in the 60s and 70s
I’m guessing nobody in NY cared when the Giants moved too...

We need a Montana team.

Most of those cities already have nba and nfl teams. I think that having new teams in new cities might be a better idea than bringing back old teams.
