But also had so much heart and drama, it was a great balance. I just couldn’t get into it after the skip, fishman island just got boring and the character designs for certain characters were terrible 😞

I love how Commander Johnathan just goes along with half of these shenanigans, while still being one of the few to even be close to capturing the whole crew in all of pre-timeskip.
You can tell a character in One Piece is a frightening combination of experienced and tough when they react to the absolute craziest Straw Hat shenanigans and just move forward with every vein of their body treating the situation like it’s perfectly normal.

Also the fact that he had the octopus…”down there…” really raises some questions that I don’t think I want answered.
The Commander held this arc! He was steps ahead of the SH’s while training his team and like a true SH Condoriano helped them escape!
Fun fact: Condoriano was actually originally intended to be a member of the crew in Oda's rough draft. Oda had to write him out because his Sweep-Sweep devil fruit powers would have instantly swept Blackbeard.
You wanna know how I know it was a good filler arc? I didn't need to look up if it was filler, unlike Silver Fox Foxy which, while canon, was the worst canon thing ever. I'm currently at Punk Hazard for reference.
I personally liked the davy back arc, admitedly it is kinda stupid but there were some great character moments. Plus i just liked how obnoxious foxy was lmao

to be fair ring long land in anime vs manga are VASTLY different experiences. i loved it in the manga and read it in one sitting, but watching it in the anime i couldn’t wait for it to be over sksk bad pacing lots of filler added in between and all around weird
I genuinely never had so much hate in my heart for a character that doesn’t even exist, then it got worse when LUFFY CHALLENGED HIM OVER AND OVER FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER!
LIKE HE ALREADY WON, STOP PLAYING THIS RIGGED GAME AND LEAVE!
Afro luffy was the only good thing that came out of all this mess.

I love this arc so much.
I love how it gives each Strawhat a little time in the sun and we get to see them reaffirm their dream and the reason they’re on this journey.
It perfectly sets up future conflicts with the marines as well as foreshadowing Water 7.
And by god do Usopp and Zoro always make the BEST comedy team when they’re together.

Fillers in op are all worth to watch, they do help build up the pace for the next main story arc. Like for this one, it highlights for the need of rocket boost of their ship later for the sunny, also the condition of merry for the next main story arc for franky.

When I watched this I didn't even know it's a filler arc because they just happened to land on G-8 after being on Skypiea. But the shenanigans they did are so hillarious it has its special place between this arc and Water 7. Plus, Usopp being the one to use the Impact Dial at the end makes it even more apparent as we would not expect that he'd use it against his own crew, and foreshadows the Thousand Sunny's Coup de Burst in the far future.

This arc, the episodes that gave new members more time to bond (I only remember the episode after Robin joined where she spent time with Chopper, and the episode where Brook was trying to fit in with the crew), the episodes in Water 7, and the arc with the amnesia seahorse are the best filler episodes imo
